do you know what it's like out there? if you don't, you better prepare. first came the snow, now it is the cold. right now on news 4 today, get ready to bundle up. storm team 4 tracking temperatures that feel like the single digits. snow, blizzards, and whiteouts sent cars sliding from virginia to across the east coast. today millions are digging out. and planned attack. the new answers following a deadly airport shooting that could lead to a death sentence for the accused gunman. first, heading into the 10:00 hour on this sunday morning, man, it's cold out there, but i hope you're having a good morning. i'm adam tuss. >> and i'm angie goff. >> storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein here with more on our frigid sunday forecast. >> yeah, it is a weather alert day due to these dangerous windchills. you really have to layer up, cover your extremities if you're going to be out for a length of time as we'll have these windchills at zero or just 10 degrees throughout much of the day ahead. it looks like washington, but

17. oh, my goodness. i can take the coat off. not really. it is very cold here. on the other side of the circle, that's where they're putting up the farmers market. on a day like today, you might have second thoughts about it, but it's an important thing for these farmers. local farmers come here, and people look for this. this is fresh produce and all of those things. it's just the ambience, just the sense of being in that communal type marketplace. they like it maybe a little less when it's this cold. they've got some propane tanks here to keep them warm, but the folks don't come out like they normally do, according to some of the folks there. they say the trends in what they buy, that changes with the temperature. take a listen to what this guy has to say. >> soups and stews. we bring vegetables too, but it's easier to buy the soup, take it home, and heat it up, than it is to take all the stuff home and cook it. >> reporter: well, folks will come out anyway and do that. it's very cold.

up, put on a hat, warm shoes, and you should be okay as long as you don't have to stay out here too long. we're live at dupont circle, derrick ward, news 4. >> all in the attitude. well, those intense ice and cold conditions made it difficult for firefighters working to put out this fire in northwest d.c. these are pictures from madison street northwest. fire in the walls actually shot all the way up into the attic in that house overnight. you're looking at video now. still not clear, though, how it all started. d.c. fire and ems says thankfully nobody was hurt. and there were slick roads, heavy snow in southern maryland. take a look. they kacaused multiple car crass in charles county yesterday. in one of them, a man was driving with his 8-year-old son when they slid off the road and rammed into a pole. crews had to cut them free out of that car. they're both supposed to be okay. there's a lot to clean up in the commonwealth as well. it was pretty much an endless shower of snow yesterday with dangerous conditions. virginia state police say they

crashes yesterday. this morning vdot crews out there again treating the roads. it was especially bad in the hampton roads area. norfolk and virginia beach, cars stuck there. more crashes too. virginia and north carolina were both under a state of emergency. if you're driving, please make sure you bring a snow scraper at the least, maybe a shovel, flares, a jack that can also come in handy if you get in an emergency. this morning, we now know the name of a man killed in a crash in prince georges county. ibrahim sow lived in bowie. he was 29 years old. maryland state police found him in his car, which was overturned in an icy pond yesterday. this was near the ramp from route 50 to collington road. police say sow may have been impaired at the time of the crash. we want you to stay safe out there and make sure you're prepared before you leave the house. you can always check the latest forecast any time on the nbc washington app. we're following breaking news out of jerusalem. four people are dead, another 13

deliberately drove into them. police say a man drove into a crowd there. you can see the bullet holes in the windshield there of the truck. the driver was killed. we now know three women and a man were among the victims of this apparent attack. a witness said israeli soldiers were targeted. we have the united states is now seeking the death penalty in the ft. lauderdale airport shooting. the suspect was previously known to law enforcement, as nbc's rosario dawson reports, that information is raising questions about whether the deadly attack could have been prevented. >> reporter: complete pandemonium friday at the ft. lauderdale international airport. a heinous shooting from a mentally ill person or an act of terror?

triggers that would have caused this attack. >> reporter: police say esteban santiago flew from anchorage, alaska, to ft. lauderdale specifically to carry out the attack. >> there have been concerns raised about where mr. santiago was not placed on a no-fly list. i want to be clear. during our initial investigation, we found no ties to terrorism. >> reporter: in november, he walked into an anchorage fbi office saying the government was recruiting him to isis. >> although he stated he did not wish to harm anyone, as a result of his erratic behavior, our agents contacted local authorities who took custody of mr. santiago and transported him to a local medical facility for evaluation. >> reporter: it was during that evaluation police confiscated the gun santiago already owned. once cleared, they gave it back to him in december. >> there is speculation that this is the same gun. >> reporter: now less than a month later, lives lost. >> did he ever say anything? >> did not say a single word. no emotion, no nothing. >> reporter: a motive unknown, questions remain. sara rosario, nbc news, ft. lauderdale, florida. william mathis has been identified as a man shot and killed by police. they say he broke into his

y25eny y17vy take a look at this. that winter storm we've been dealing with also slammed the southeast with snow. southwest airlines suspended all operations at the raleigh-durham airport. you can see snowplows here clearing the tarmac yesterday. they also had to get rid of black ice. the airport is up and running this morning, but they say so farñ9e÷w5ó it's had more than cancellatio cancellations. so pants, no problem. really? >> for some people, i guess. >> it's a revealing tradition that's continuing today in the district. >> yeah, for nearly ten

good morning. it's a storm team 4 weather alert day due to some dangerously cold windchills. temperatures by noontime will be in the low 20s, and windchills just around 5 degrees. then by 3:00, our temperatures ought to be in the mid, maybe briefly upper 20s. but the windchills even then are only going to be around 10 degrees.

washington and around the bay. look at the windchill at pax river. southern maryland, where they got near six inches of snow, just around zero. winds gusting around 30 miles an hour. not only dropping windchills, but it's drifting the snow. it was such a fluffy, dry snow, we've got snowdrifts blowing across the roads across parts of southern maryland and on the eastern shore. the feels-like temperature by noontime will still be in the single digits. by 3:00 this afternoon, feels-like temperatures, the windchills will only be near 10 degrees. that's going to be the story all the way until 6:00 p.m. then the wind will diminish tonight. storm team 4 radar all dry. the storm team 4 ten-day outlook. we'll have another cold day tomorrow but not as much wind. partly sunny, teens in the morning. afternoon highs, low 30s. near 40 tuesday afternoon. maybe a little rain wednesday morning. then look at that warming trend. low 60s thursday and a nice weekend to follow. >> can't wait for that. thanks, tom. president-elect donald trump is promising to

within three months of taking office to develop a plan to combat and stop cyber attacks. >> that announcement coming just after trump received the intelligence community's report on russia's interference in the election. joining us now to break it all down, moderator of "meet the press," chuck todd. he's certainly heading to be at odds with his intelligence officials. he's got a press conference coming up this week too, right? >> he does. there's that. there's also the confirmation hearings. i think the russia issue is certainly going to be front and center for rex tillerson, donald trump's pick to be secretary of state, the former exxon ceo, who himself has close ties to vladimir putin. so i don't know -- look, he ratcheted back the rhetoric against the intel community. that's step one here. but as you'll see from my two lead guests, john mccain and lindsey graham, the issue they have is that he's not taking this russian aggression seriously enough. this is not about cyber. this is not about hacking. this is about russia trying to upend the american-led world order. that's the issue here. >> you talk a little bit about

wants this to go away. he said it in many different ways. but there's still going to be more investigations, right? congress can still act on this. >> by the way, the investigation is not --i&ni apparently is sti active, about what's going on. lindsey graham in the interview today essentially says he believes there's still an active investigation, perhaps inner agency investigations, whether it's still the fbi or nsa. but active investigation, particularly about coordination. was there coordination? there's still a hunt as to who helped the russians here sort of facilitate, knowing what information to leak out. that had to have american help. >> what an unbelievable kind of scandal to come into the white house. can you put your finger on something that is similar? >> no. but the word unprecedented is a word we've been using a lot the last three months. i have a feeling we're going to use it a lot in the next four years. >> i think sinceum
