withefeel like temperatures dipping to the single digits once again. good evening and thanks for staying with us after the globes. i'm erika gonzalez. the big chill is going to stay with us at least for another day. storm team4 meteorologist amelia draper joins us with how the weather could impact you and the kids as we get back into the monday morning routine. >> it's going to be bitterly cold out there tomorrow morning so make sure the kids are bundled up at the bus stop. the warmest layers, the glove, the hat, the scarf. if you can, give them a ride to school or at least let them wait in the warm car until the school bus comes. we're talking about feels like temperatures, wind chill temperatures in the single digits just about everywhere and close to zero in the suburbs north and west of town. in addition to that, some isolated black ice mainly in spots that saw a lot of snow this weekend. down in southern maryland, down around the fredericksburg area. that is leading to some school cur

believe what the on the receipt. the waitress says the painful message was hateful. as news4's darcy spencer shows us from ashburn, virginia, the waitress is getting a lot of support from the community. >> it was just total shock. that's all i could say. >> reporter: kelly carter was shocked, not so much that she didn't get a tip from a customer but what was written at the bottom of the receipt. great service. don't tip black people. >> i looked at the receipt three times is what i did because i was shocked because i've never -- never being a server, seen that. >> reporter: carter has been a server with anita's restaurant in ashburn for years. she says there was nothing out of the norm with the customer who she believes left the note. her boss says carter is one of his top employees. >> i was appalled though it's kind of in line with the political landscape

unfortunately. it's of loudoun county's naacp chapter. phillip thompson posted the receipt on social media. news4 has blurred the signature and credit card number. >> my immediate response was i've seen this on facebook. let's put it on social media and let social media deal with it. i think the pressure from that will deal with the situation better than what we can do in the naacp. >> reporter: i asked her what she would do if that same customer were to come back into the restaurant. you might be surprised by her answer. >> my arms are still open to them. that's him, not me. >> reporter: carter said she's gotten a lot of hugs since the incident was publicized. in fact, there's talk of an organized dinner at the restaurant to support her. >> i keep my head up. i have to keep moving. one hateful remark cannot stop me. you got to forgive and forget and move on.

brutally murdered over the holidays. trisha mccauley disappeared on christmas day and police found her body a couple of days later. mccauley was passionate about building the theater community in the district and supporting aspiring actors. the community has already raised nearly $35,000 to further those dreams. you can find the link to donate in our nbc washington app. search "memorial fund." be careful if you use certain ride-share services in montgomery county. police in takoma park say drivers are using the job as a way to rob people. officers say the crimes are gang-related, and they've seen a startling pattern in the past week. drivers are targeting hispanic members of the community. police say that all of the crimes have happened on rides through unlicensed ride companies as

ride services like officers in prince george's county say they are having similar problems as well. prince george's county police are working a murder investigation in temple hills. a man was found in the area of hillpark drive and dunlap street this afternoon. he had been shot and later died at the hospital. detectives are working to find a possible suspect or even a motive in that case. it is a video that is shocking people across the country tonight. tmz published a video that appears to show the exact moment that deadly airport attack in fort lauderdale started. we want to warn you it's hard to watch. watch the side of the screen. he pulls out a gun and starts shooting. people nearby clearly upset, running for cover. five people were killed in friday's shooting. the fbi released a statement saying it cannot confirm the video's authenticity. the suspected killer is s

facesharges t court appearance that carry the deeth penalty. according to court documents, santiago told investigators he planned the attack, buying a one-way ticket from anchorage. it's possible he used the same gun friday that he had in november when he walked into an fbi office in alaska claiming that his mind was being controlled by a u.s. intelligence agency. agents confiscated the gun but later returned it. firefighters in the district battling a house fire in icy and very cold conditions saturday night. they got the call around 11:30. the home on madison street, this is in northwest. we're told the fire was in the walls of both floors of the house and that it quickly spread through the attic. the good news here is that everybody made it out safely. a mother pleading for answers tonight in her son's killing antonious butler died on new year's eve. somebody stabbed him on east capitol street near 22nd street in southeast d.c.

attackers. the council on american-islamic relations says the most vulnerable victims are muslim women, particularly those who wear the islamic head scarf. >> so this is really an opportunity for muslim women to come together and learn specific self-defense techniques and skills that they can use to protect themselves in the event that if they're ever in a situation where they are being assaulted or attacked, or if their security and safety is being compromised. >> another goal of the workshop is to build self-esteem and a sense of empowerment, especially among young muslim women and girls. in less than two weeks, president obama will stand by and watch president-elect donald trump take the oath of office. today on abc's this week, 44 was asked what impressed him about 45. >> you know, he is somebody who i

we've got some breaking news in prince george's county. a man has died after being stabbed. we got this video into our newsroom just minutes ago. the stabbing happened about 7:30 sunday evening on cypress creek drive in chill ham. police have not released the name of the man who died. they say this all started as a domestic dispute. new tonight, some scary moments for a homeless man today sleeping under a tree in golden state park. for some reason, part of that tree came crashing down on him and pinned him to the ground. firefighters had to use saws to be able to cut the tree limbs away, and they only knew that somebody was there when somebody happened to pass by that scene. >> luckily a gardener was coming through here and heard someone screaming for help. >> firefighters sawed through the tree limb and pulled the man to safety.

a ices at the pump are up 13 cents over the past three weeks. the national average for a gallon of regular, $2.38. that's about 33 cents higher than it was this time last year. experts blame the jump on gas tax hikes and higher costs for refiners. d.c. drivers are paying more than the national average, $2.59. maryland drivers are right at the average, $2.40. and the bargains in virginia where the average cost for a gallon there, about $2.24 if you'd like to take the drive over there. we want to thank the thousands of you who came out to the nbc4 health and fitness expo this weekend. we loved being able to meet so many of you over the past couple of days. it was fun to see so many of you getting into the fun and fitness classes. even our

morning becauseter and wednesda. but as we warm up, well, some showers start to move into the area. so there are your weather headlines. tomorrow morning, the puffy jacket as erika likes to say, is a must. we start to defrost on tuesday. then after that for the rest of the workweek, it's really feeling more like spring than winter out there at times. currently we're at 19 degrees. thankfully the winds, not that bad. only at 8 miles an hour. but any wind when it's this cold really drives down those feel like temperatures. feeling about 9 in the district. 2 in gaithersburg. 3 in frederick. 10 down in culpeper. clear skies out there. here's your hourly planner for tomorrow. we start off the day at 14 in washington. around 10 in the suburbs. it's bitterly cold. thankfully not as windy throughout the day. but even by lunchtime, it's only in the mid-20s and a high tomorrow of 29 degrees. so we're below

we're around 26. moderate, maybe even high impact on your monday tomorrow. the commute, some isolated snow-covered roads and some black ice out there, especially down in southern maryland, parts of king george and stafford counties where you did see some more snow this weekend. some areas seeing close to 8 inches in that neck of the woods. here in town, i think we're going to be fine on the roads tomorrow morning. but at the bus stop, everybody needs the warm jacket. exercise, a lot of sidewalks even here in the district still have snow and ice on them. so probably better to exercise indoors tomorrow. and aside from that, it's just so cold out there. but if you want to have dinner out on your monday night, the warm jacket, i think you'll be fine at that point. on tuesday, a high around 40 degrees. clouds increase throughout the day as well as the winds. by tuesday evening, there's the chance for some showers. i'm showing you future weather here because it's not green at 5:00 p.m. notice the pink. that's a slight chance for some freezing rain north of town. not a huge concern but someth
