place within a span of three days starting today starting with senator jeff sessions for attorney general. lawmakers will vet john kelly who has been chosen to head homeland security. also on the hill today, the senate select committee on intelligence will hold a hearing on russia's interference in the election. the heads of the cia, nsa and fbi are expected to testify. this follows the release of a report last week blaming russia for cyber attacks against democratic groups and individuals during the presidential elections. the fbi says it is ready for inauguration day. it's been working for months to make sure everyone stays safe next friday. cameras are set up across the district to keep our streets safe. officers will be on.hand to help out. some will be armed with tools like explosive detection devices. the fbi says there is no

we want to get back to the live desk about a manhunt for an accused cop killer. angie following the news out of orlando. >> dozens of homes and apartments have been searched, that is what we have been told. there is still no sign of markeith lloyd. lloyd, accused of shooting and dilg master sergeant deborah clayton in orlando yesterday. before that, he was wanted for questioning in the death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend last month. the this is a tragic story in florida. a second officer we know died in a motorcycle crash while searching for lloyd. we continue to watch this manhunt and we're going to let you know if any new developments happen this morning. it is 4:34. today, team and friends will say good-bye to former senator charles colgan. he was elected as

the 90-year-old passed away last week in hospice care. virginia governor terry mckul yif is expected to attend. this week marks two years since the deadly lafont plaza smoke incident. now metro is calling on a court to on dismiss all lieutenants against the agency and it's blaming d.c. fire for a failed response. in new court documents, metro says firefighters and paramedics ignored critical information. metro claims d.c. fire sent an inexperienced battalion chief who failed to manage the response. it says, quote, as a result of d.c. fire's and ems utter disregard for responding to such emergencies, metro rail passengers experience injuries that were more severe than they otherwise would have been and the event ended in tragedy. news 4 reached out to d.c. fire for comment. we have not heard back. delays and breakdowns are common on

now the transit agency says a rail car problem is what the issue is here. on thursday, metro will report to its board that 60% of all delays are because of rail car breakdowns. at least four times of a day, people are forced off of a train because of issues. metro is in the process of retiring the older cars in the fleet. this morning, we are expected to learn why the washington monument lost power again. all the power went out last night and that was the second time in less than a week that there's been a power issue at the monument. last night, the red aviation lights on the top of the monument went out. electricians say they traced the latest issue to a ground fault and plan to look into it more today. it was a christmas present that cost them everything. shannon williams and her two sons are staying in temporary housing after she says her 7-year-old's hover board caught fire. the fire broke out in the kids' room. it happened right beside their bunk bed before spreading

elect officials were involved and also at least one lobbyist according to documents associated with this case. when david's son was arrested on thursday, he was the only one held and they were expecting to have a trial to keep him in jail for some time. but after he was able to if a nagel some kind of a deal, they allowed him to leave. but he's going to be held in his home 24 hours a day. he can't have any communication with the outside world and is not allowed to use any electronics or get near any computers. they say he is not only a fundamental part of their investigation, but could sabotage this investigation. they believe that he was trying to tip off some of the folks who they were investigating looking into some of this illegal activity with the prince georges county liquor board. it's part of the reason that they raided two businesses and made all of these arrests before they were actually done with their investigation. we're expecting more arrests to come of elected officials and that

before the beginning of the legislative session on wednesday. in green belt, tracey wilkins, news 4. a news 4 i-team investigation revealed some teachers are able to keep their licenses after abusing students. now a new law in virginia could prevent it from happening in your child's classroom. the i-team uncovered four cases of teachers in fairfax county who admitted to sexual conduct between 2004 and 2006. in each case, the school direct waited six years or longer before revoking their licenses. this promised questions from state senator janet howell. she's requested an increase in staffing and budget for the department of education to investigate whether other teachers have slipped through the cracks. >> when i read your -- and saw your report, it was like i was hit in the stul. we take very seriously keeping the children of virginia safe. and when something like this happens, we have
