activity during the inauguration. it's getting down to crunch time for metro. the transit agency says it's putting everything it has into service for the inauguration. transportation reporter adam tuss continues team coverage with what you need to know. >> reporter: with the inauguration just a week away, it is time to nail down the specifics. for metro, it is all about moving people. getting ready for the inauguration, but there's a lingering question for metro, how many people are coming. >> we're monitoring both hotel rooms and everything else like everyone else is. we'll just put as much service as we can out there. >> reporter: metro will be open from 4:00 in the morning until midnight on inauguration day. there will be 17 straight hours of rush hour service from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. a handful of stations will be closed for security reasons, the pentagon, smithsonian, federal triangle, mt. vernon square and archives.

investigators are trying to find answers after a raging house fire killed six young children. two other children and the children's mother are still in hospitals tonight. the mother worked for maryland congressman elijah cummings. darcy? >> reporter: we want to show you the house where this tragedy unfolded in the overnight hours. you can see all of the burned out debris right there in the front yard. the neighbors tell an unspeakable story of a house full of fire, a mom desperate to have her children rescued and her babies screaming for help. >> i was holding out hope and just praying, god please let them not be in there. >> reporter: the heart wrenching process of recovering the bodies of six children from what's left of this house.

the children, 9 months to 11 years old, became trapped when neighbors say the fire grew to an inferno. investigators are looking into the possibility it was caused by an electric space heater. >> the collapse was horrendous. when the third floor chanollaps it was horrendous. it's hard to say if they were trying to make an escape or not. >> reporter: baltimore's mayor came to the scene, asking everyone to pray. >> to know that so many children are not going to be with us consuas a result of this incident, it's so painful. >> reporter: the mom katie malone was home with her nine children. the dad was at work. malone was able to get out. her 8-year-old daughter rescued two of her brothers who were 4 and 5 years old. the boys and their mom remain in critical condition. >> i heard the kids crying.

you know, couldn't save them. couldn't save them. >> reporter: congressman elijah cummings confirmed malone worked for him as a special assistant. >> sadly, six of her nine children perished. it's a very difficult time for our office. >> reporter: friends say some of the kids went to this charter school around the corner where an open house has been cancelled. the family attended the nearby lutheran church. the young victims have not yet been identified. i asked the fire chief if the mom and those other two children in critical condition are expected to survive. he told me everyone just needs to pray. two our weather now, a 70 degree day in january, pretty rare and pretty short lived, isn't it, amelia?

fake news pizza gate case. days after a man opened fire in a d.c. pizzaria because he allegedly believed hillary clinton has been running a child sex ring there, another man has been accused. court records obtained by news4 say jusuf jones called the pizza shop and made that threat. he said, quote, i'm coming there to finish what the other guy didn't. i'm coming there to save the kids. that episode occurred december 7th. edgar welch faces several charges including assault with a deadly weapon for the december 5th incident. jusuf jones is scheduled for a court appearance in shreveport, louisiana, today.

thieves broke into several fairfax county homes over the holidays. they took precious possessions and left behind a mess. northern virginia bureau reporter david culver is outside the fair oaks district station now with more. >> reporter: i can tell you quite a mess did they leave behind. these teens suspected in these crimes are in jail tonight facing a long list of charges. cameras rolling inside this oakton home, the suspected thieves walking through the bedroom halls. they're carrying what appear to be guns. >> this is the camera they were caught on. i don't think they were expecting to see a camera there. >> reporter: candy was out of town for the holiday break. that's when the teens broke into her home. the video still haunts

>> the scariest thing was just this memory that somebody could get into our home and get access to our 10-year-old grandson who lives with us. >> reporter: the thieves not only took, but also destroyed using bb guns. >> my tv was shot with a bb, monitor was shot with a bb. the drawers were emptied all over the floor. they even took a box of business cards and through them all over. >> we've linked a number of them to some of these suspects. >> reporter: they hit homes across the fair oaks district of the county, at least nine, maybe more. vr investigators tracked the suspects down after they hit this house and tripped the alarm. we headed to alexander's house. it's here police executed a search warrant this week. the woman who answered the door tells me she knows the suspect but wouldn't say any more. we know police found a list of items inside this home,

goods believed to be stolen. good now being returned to their rightful owners, people like candy. candy tells me she is incredibly grateful to the fairfax county police for getting her goods back. now, behind me, this is the fair oaks police district station. inside there, they have several more unclaimed stolen goods that they're hoping folks will come forward and claim finally. they want to hear from people. metro's safe track plan is on hold for the month of january. but today we learned some details about the next round of work. beginning february 11th, the blue line will be shut down between roslyn and the pentagon. that work is expected to last more than two weeks. metro's general manager says safe track work will continue through june and riders on other lines will feel the impact. >

you're watching news4 rat 6:00. a high school student could spend the rest of his life in prison for a deadly double stabbing at the wheaton mall. >> he was charged with two counts of first degree murder. his family says police have the wrong guy. prosecutors say he has been in trouble with the law before. chris gordon has our report. >> reporter: police recognized the suspect, angelo jackson from a still picture lifted off surveillance video. they say they knew him from previous arrests. police say surveillance video from the mall depicts a black male suspect armed with a knife assaulting both victims. police arrested 17-year-old angelo lamont jackson, a student at richard montgomery high school. the suspect was identified by

officers who have had prior law enforcement contacts with the suspect. in court prosecutors said jackson has a juvenile record with a second degree assault conviction from 2014 and an attempted robbery charge. at jackson's home in montgomery village, his brother tells me angelo has been in trouble before, but nothing like this. >> my brother is a good dude. he makes jokes. he's a goofball. a killer, a murder, that could never be my little brother. he's not a murder, heer, he's n killer. >> i know where my son was at. i have proof where my son was at the time this incident happened. >> reporter: you're saying he was not wheaton. >> he was not at wheaton mall at all. he was not there. >> reporter: jackson's brother and a group of friends came to court to support him. jackson maintains he is innocent. police have identified the tabbitab i stabbing
