attend. that would indeed be a sizeable crowd, but nowhere near the 1.8 million people who attended the first inauguration of president barack obama. expected to attend on friday's inauguration is a group called bikers for trump. they're holding a rally at john marshall plaza next to the parade route. chris gordon there now with more on what they have planned. chris? >> reporter: well, jim, bikers for trump will be standing so close to pennsylvania avenue, that they could actually cheer and be heard by the new president during his inaugural parade from the u.s. capitol to the white house. bikers for trump rally organizer chris cox, says people are coming from as far away as san diego and florida. he expects members of rolling thunder to join and arrive from virginia into washington, d.c., on thursday. and then park their bikes for the inaugural day rally on

>> reporter: on metro, it's aware of a plan to possibly disrupt some service on inauguration day but says it will not comment on the counter measures it's taking. security levels are increasing, though. and just be aware, on friday, five metro stations will be closed for security. pentagon, smith season an. much of the attention centers on the over 500 tour buses headed this way. >> we anticipate with the additional traffic volumes there may be additional incidents or accidents and we're going to respond to those as quickly as possible. >> reporter: on and off ramps may be closed to help manage congestion. so for now, gearing up to handle these next few days. yeah, and crews say they're peepi preparing for as many as 900,000 people to come down here to the national mall on friday. beal have to see how it goes. >> adam tuss, thank you. keep it right here on news4. we'll have live team coverage starting friday morning

former president george h.w. bush and his wife barbara are both in hospitals in texas. mr. bush is in the intensive care unit at houston's methodist hospital. he's being treated for pneumonia. he's 92 years old now. he was placed under sedation for a procedure to protect and clear his airways. barbara bush was hospitalized this morning as a precaution after experiencing fatigue and coughing. she is 91. the couple marked their 72nd wedding anniversary earlier this morning. the former president and wife were not planning to attend the inauguration. mr. bush sent a letter to president-elect trump days before he was hospitalized, letting him know they wouldn't be able to make it. mr. bush apologized and said his doctor adviseed the couple from making the

mr. trump wished them a speedy recovery. now to a bizarre chain of events that included bullets flying into two d.c. neighborhoods and ended with two people in custody. this started when somebody opened fire on an off-duty officer. it's the second time this week we have seen daytime gun violence in the district. news4's pat collins is in northwest with details on this latest story. pat? >> reporter: doreen, one car, three crime scenes, and three different neighborhoods. shots fired, no one hurt. but it was close. >> yep. >> reporter: this is daz. he didn't see the beginning, but he saw the end when the driver of this mercedes car crash tried to elude police and tried to run on foot. he didn't get far. >> i saw him running here and the cops right behind him. he got on the control truck there and tried to get inside and they got

and that was just about it. police were out here like that and it was 30 of them. >> reporter: scary? >> definitely. but it was all right. >> reporter: what did you do? >> i got right back in my hole i was digging. >> reporter: this mercedes car, the centerpiece of a violent and bizarre encounter with police that left three crime scenes and three different neighborhoods. in the ecington neighborhood, an off-duty cop sees them driving erratically. he calls it in and follows the car. someone in the mercedes shoots at him six times. but he wasn't hit. in the bloomingdale neighborhood, a passenger jumps out of that mercedes, and in an alley, a cop fires his gun. no one hit there. but a gun is recovered and a man is picked up. then finally, the ending. here in ladroit park, the mercedes crash and the

preliminary hearings to the actual trials to where we are, the sentencing phase. the victims, leo fisher and sue duncan, his wife. both in their late 60s have had to recount and relive this horror several times. and today fisher back on the stand. more than two years since those vicious attacks. leo fisher and sue duncan. >> i have sort of this underlying fear of things, fisher told the judge. i'm overly alert, looking for a man in a dark outfit with a dark hat on. the man he describes convicted last june. andr andrew schmuhl fished his way through the mccain home, casing his wife's former boss and forcing the couple on to their bed, be interrogating them for three hours and getting violate. he jumped

knife in my throat and pulled it across the throat, fisher testified to the. i came through and thought i have a few more minutes to live. schmuhl turned his attention to sue, fisher watching it all. she was shot in the hid and it hit her in the left side of the head. it ricocheted off her skull. i thought she was dead, he told the judge, his voice choking. but amazingly they survived. all the buy, andrew schmuhl was coordinating with alicia outside. an alarm squared them off. this was the police video. she was stone-faced and in a bizarre twist, andrew had taken off his clothes wearing only an adult diaper. speaking about his former employee as she sat in a green jumpsu jumpsuit, fisher said he wanted her to succeed. i thought she was
