police officers at fedex field this morning. about 7500 men and women from around the nation are here to help with security. they will mainly be in charge of crowd management and will also be posted at metro stations. as i'm sure you can imagine, security is very tight. road closures are already in effect. last-minute preparations are being made ahead of tomorrow's historic event. meagan fitzgerald is live at the national mall. >> reporter: those road closures are already causing a bit of a headache for drivers. if you need a reason to not drive down here, just take a look for yourself. you could see a big mess down here. and more road closures, of course, will be put in place throughout tonight and into the morning. of course you want to stay away from downtown. early this morning we caught up with the secretary of homeland security as he walked around making sure everything was in place security-wise ahead of the inauguratio

this morning secretary of homeland security jeh johnson walked along pennsylvania avenue near freedom plaza to inspect security measures. he says the planning process for the thousands of law enforcement personnel has been in the works for months. and secretary johnson says they're ready for what lies ahead. >> any large security event like this, you always have to be vigilant, work hard, work over time. we're expecting between 700,000 and 900,000 people to be part of this event tomorrow. there will be approximately 28,000 security personnel assisting with this. >> reporter: the national park service says if you do not have a ticket and you are going to be attending the inauguration, you can bring an umbrella, but it has t b

it will continue to cool a little bit, but we're not going to go down all that much tonight. most areas above freezing as you make your way up tomorrow. the rain, not in our area just yet, but here it is. most of the energy with this system will stay to the north. you can see it making its way all the way from the gulf all the way up towards the great lakes. that's where most of the energy is going to be, just to the north and west. severe weather down to the south and west, not going to be a factor for us. it's just the rain. by 8:00 a.m., notice some shower activity

events or just walking arounds the city, there are some things you might want to keep in mind. >> reporter: for metro leaders, these next few days really are kind of a guessing game. they just don't know how many people are going to show up for both the inauguration and the women's march. but one thing is clear. it's going to be busy and you need to stay safe. so many people in town for the events over the next few days will be riding metro for the first time. here are some reminders about safety. >> look out for small kids. if you're bringing kids to the inauguration, take them by the hand. if you drop anything on the tracks, never go down and get it. >> reporter: if you are going to take metro, the best advice is to get a smart trip card as soon as possible so you don't have to wait in line at the fare machine. five metro stations will be closed tomorrow, pentagon, smithsonian, federal triangle,

no worries if you are going out to any of the parties going on tonight. but here comes the rain. you could see it's as close as the roanoke area. starting to see that rain encroach upon the region. i'm not expecting a lot tomorrow. most of this actually dies out tomorrow. but it will stick arnoound duri the inauguration tomorrow. for the weekend, for the women's march, fog possible early in the morning. it may be dense fog right on through about 9:00 a.m. if you're thinking about skiing, go saturday. exercise, not bad for january. temperatures will be quite mild. saturday is the day to do it. sunday we've got rain likely and that rain could be very heavy on sunday and on monday. as a matter of fact, first off take a look at the temperatures, into the 50s monday. temperatures will be falling through the day and we're going to see rain. it's going to be heavy at times.

sunday into monday. a nor'easter developing. that will allow for falling temperatures. yes, you see it there, snow. may mix with snow. not in the d.c. area, not at least right now. but maybe to our north and west, the panhandle of west virginia, up toward frederick, maybe winchester. then we do moderate. temperatures moving back into the 50s. 58 on wednesday. next chance of accumulating snow would be next saturday. does not look like a lot, but it does look like a major pattern change. that cold air is finally going to make its way in. but a lot more warm temperatures than cold on this forecast. the wizards are among the best in the league at protecting their own house. tonight they're trying to figure out how to be kings of the roa as well.d at dominion, we're putting our energy to work creating a cleaner environment by using cleaner energy sources
