good morning. >> good morning. we are outside the the red gate, as you can see behind me here on indiana avenue, third and indiana not too far from d.c. police headquarters here. there are about 20 or so people standing here waiting to get inside and the folks there tell me their tickets get them behind the reflecting pool. they will be standing up for the entire ceremony. this is one of many security checkpoints along the way.. as you can see, there are folks still coming. police still out here, of course. and as you can see, across the street there, national guard troops. we've seen this scene all throughout the downtown area, of course. there's a massive presence of security. security that you can see and, of course, security that you cannot see. we've been

service about the streets being blocked off. and, look, the best bet, no public or street parking. forget about it. be prethe paired to walk quite a distance to get where you're going for the inaugural festivities and be prepared to stand shoulder to shoulder for the tens of thousands expected to come down here. the gates open at 6:00 a.m. take a look at your screen. you cannot bring a lot of stuff down here, toex. be prepared for those kinds of conditions. here is what you cannot bring. of course, firearms, large backpacks are off limits, no bicycles, coolers, drones are off limits. for a complete list of what you can and cannot bring, check out the nbc washington app for all those details. we were able to park, find a space in chinatown and then we walked many blocks to get to this point. parking is terrible, of cose

you today on this inauguration day. sheena parveen is here with a look at four things to know. >> the first thing to know, we have rain moving in and that is going to be the main thing today. so if you are heading out there, small umbrella, poncho, raincoat. no rain right now. we're dry, but it is just off to our west. here is the rain moving in right in the middle of the day today. temperatures not bad the this morning. 40 degrees in the district. we have mid 30s north and west, but take a look at future weather. by 9:00 a.m. if you're heading out, still mostly dry. rain to our west. by noon today, we expect light rainfall, clearing as we go through the arch. let's check the roadways with melissa mollet. >> we have all lanes blocked, it's a crash with a pole that came down, as well, alexandria. water main break and a big look the at the beltway overall, beltway looking pretty good.

presidentd trctmp is managerizing her supporters. he spoke at two events last night here in the district. >> first, there was a welcome event at the lincoln memorial. the president-elect and vice president elect attended a dinner at union station after that event. their top supporters and members of the campaign and transition team were there. >> we are going to make america great again, greater than ever before. thank you very much, everybody. >> and after the dinner, trump tweeted thank you for a wonderful evening in washington, d.c. metro is open right now. the transit system opened an hour early to help get people to the national mall. there are five metro stations, though, that are closed the today for security reasons. pentagon, smithsonian, federal triangle, mt. vernon square and archives. >> adam is live in fairfax county at the vienna metro station.

church. at 9:30 wk thell to the white house for teas with the obamas. trump will take the the oath of office around noon and the inaugural parade is expected to begin around 3:00 p.m. >> even with the threat of rain, you might want to leave that umbrella at home if you're head to the inauguration today. u.s. capitol police will not allow anyone to have an umbrella within the ticketed area for today's events. however, small umbrellas, the collapsable ones, will be allowed on the parade route and on the national mall. they must be compact, no longer than 18 inches and they cannot have a pointed tip. a significant distinction to make there with the type of umbrella and where you can and can't have them. you still can't have them in the ticketed areas for the ceremony. >> so be prepared when you head down. and you said it was a busy morning for you coming in. >> yeah, it was 3:00 a.m. driving here. a lot of people on the roads. so it makes you wonder even over here if they're heading there or what they're doing. but either way, it's going to be a busy
