the day marked with roars of support and eruptions of chaos winding down now on k street. a calmer scene than we saw this afternoon. >> just a couple of miles away from the national building museum, where president trump and first lady melania just arrived to the armed services ball. >> they'll end up at the white house once it's all over for theirs first night at official residents of 16 ln 00 pennsylva avenue. >> hundreds of thousands from across the nation set for tomorrow's big women's march on washington. >> all day long our team of reporters has been bringing you developed live as they hammed a happened and that continues right now. >> reporter: and in the thick of the protests in northwest d.c., shomari? >> good evening. standing outside the washington convention center. police put up this really tall fence. was it necessary for this particular ball? it wasn't. because no disruption. ll

leaving the liberty ball. it's a peaceful night compared to the destruction earlier today. police arrested 217 people. they are charged with rioting. 6 police officers received minor injuries including 3 hit in the head. good news, they're also going to be okay. police say protestors threw bricks and rocks. the d.c. mayor commented on the violence and the police chief told us what people can expect tomorrow. >> what message can you give the protestors right now on k street? >> follow the law, and they can exercise their first amendment rights peaceably. >> what can you say to the women who are watching think and families and men who plan on going to the women's march tomorrow? >> i would say this. this is a safe and beautiful city. welcome to washington, d.c. this is a place where people come to exercise their first amendments rights and we're hopeful we'll ha

lawmakers overwhelmingly approved retired general james mattis for defense secretary, the vote 98-1. senators also confirmed the nomination of john. if kelly as secretary of homeland security. maryland democratic senator chris van hollen was among the 11 senators who voted no on that. >> were you tweeting today? a lot of people were. at one point the president's most-used form of social media was spitting out 58,000 tweets a minute. tonight it's all about memes, pictures and comments and the inaugural performers. check them out. we've seen a lot of michelle obama memes today. this one captioned "i feel you, michelle." others convey their feels with a single image. this one, a man handing out american flags near the mall. the tweets came fast when the group pelican 212 took the stage at the liberty ball. people were confused about who pelican 212 is. they're a band that features identical twin trump

will move on. miami, florida, portland, oregon, and chicago, illinois. protesters in those three cities made their feelings about the new president perfectly clear. demonstrators flooded the streets, held anti-trump signs and chanted aunt trump slogans. aerial shots captured the size of the crowds. >> and those pretesters engs tended beyond our borders today. a double-decker bus packed with u.s. citizens drove through lima, peru, to rally against the president. palestinians took to the streets to burn images there of trump and demonstrators gathered outside a ford dealership in mexico to protest the company's decision to abandon plans for a plant there. >> and it will not quiet down tomorrow. the women's march on washington happens here. here's what you should know if you're planning to take metro there. unlike today, all metro stations

you can barely see the washington monument there it is kind of a cool shot. almost looks like snow. oh, no, no snow oh, we can wish, can't we? some of us can. 47 degrees right now. winds out of the south at five miles an hour with the fog that has been developing, temperatures still very mild. they won't go down a lot because of the clouds and the moisture in the atmosphere. a little cooler toward the shenandoah valley but they may see fog, too. take a look at this. dense fog advisory in the gray north of the border here in maryland but wouldn't be surprised to see one in our area. visibility down to a half mile in quantico, less than a mile towards frederick. half mile towards winchendon st. i expect it to fall early tomorrow morning. no rain and we won't see rain tomorrow. the only rain is light drizzle and it's still coming but shouldn't affect you too much. you may want the

you probably won't need it. not much in the way of rain around our area but we're watching this monster storm towards california. when i say monster storm, how much snow with would you expect in lake tahoe? how about three to six feet. yeah, that's a monster storm and they're getting another one of those, that same storm system bringing dangerous conditions towards parts of the four corners area. as far as snowfall is concerned, for us it turns into a nor'easter off our coast and give us one to two inches of rain and we will see rain 11:00 a.m., cloud cover and fog east to the blue ridge, to the west sunshine. this will be key tomorrow. west of blue ridge you may see temperatures near 60 degrees, maybe more. east of the blue ridge socked in with clouds. rainfall comes in on sunday and watch what happens. here comes the rain, heavy at times around 6:00, 7:00, monday morning it's really heavy and this is when a lot of people are going back to work and the new people in the government going
