the stage thact was set up at te lincoln memorial for the make america great again concert. they've made a lot of progress. that work is to be completed by thursday. the workers are also removing that white decking that was placed on the national mall to protect the grass. you can see the lawn again, and it's in good shape. >> when it comes up, it still reveals that lush green grass. if that hadn't been down in the rain and the feet, we'd probably be looking at something different. we're very excited that seemed to have done its job. >> reporter: we're told it's going to take longer until possibly march to dismantle everything that was set up at lafayette park over there right by the white house. back to you, erica. >> wow, a lot of work ahead. darcy, thank you so very much. as the cleanup continues, we are getting a clearer picture of the heavy traffic during the inauguration and the march. the new numbers from

despite the dreary weather, people in town for the inauguration and the women's march vifltd tsited the museum . we were on pennsylvania avenue yesterday morning as the front pages came down. visitors told us they were waiting to see what their hometown papers had to say about the political ooerevents over t past couple yeas.

in fact, we caught up with a family in canada who was here for the women's march. >> america has some divisions in it, and those divisions actually aren't dissimilar to what is happening in other countries. >> we understand the museum opened a little later than usual this morning, but things all back to normal now. metro says more than 2 million people rode the transit system over the past couple days, metro's general managers saying they set a record on the day of the women's march with more than a million trips taken, and that is the second busiest day in metro's history, ever. paul giving a statement today saying, we can all feel proud of providing safe, reliable service for large numbers of riders over to consecutive days on a world stage. strong winds and some heavy rain tomorrow morning, but how does this weather impact on the second half of your monday, right? so what

let's go back to that breaking news in san antonio, texas. we have new details that have just come in. the mayor's office confirming that one person has in fact been killed in an attempted robbery at the kay jewellers at the rolling oaks mall. this is, again, in san antonio, texas. six other people are hurt, and we're working to learn how they're doing. but the mayor's communications department says one person is in

are still searching quite possibly for a second suspect, so they are going through that mall thoroughly right now. again, thfis was, the way we understand it, related to an attempted robbery of the jewelry store in the mall. it was a good samaritan who tried to interfere that -- i'm not sure if they were one of the individuals injured or the person that died. we're going to try to get more details on that when we get it. meanwhile, in northern virginia, a teenage boy is recovering from a shooting. fairfax county police say he was only 14. someone shot him early this morning on the parkway in alexandria not far from dorset drive. the shooting was not random. hailed a hero by saving a man from a burning car. but he's not the only one that went above and beyond. strangers also rushing in to help the driver

buoy. the officer wants a chance to thank them for their heroic actions. >> reporter: these pictures begin to tell the tale of a fiery crash, twisted wreckage barely discernible. this is a car. it happened friday morning, but as graphic as they are, the pictures only tell part of the story. the accounts of those who came onto the scene take you deeper. >> i was going down 301, i was driving down 301 and i saw big black smoke in the air. and i knew something was going on. >> corporal angelo piaza came on the scene around 9:40 friday morning. the car had come into oncoming traffic and hit a dump truck head on. the truck driver had gotten clear of his vehicle. the driver of the car was trapped. >> i could tell the driver was in distress, so went straight to him. >> reporter: so did the others. piaza and the others went after the flaming wreckage with fire extinghe

driver's seat belt off and that's when we moved to get him out of the vehicle. >> repoer: and they did. he was transported with multiple injuries, but he survived, rescued from an inferno. strangers banded together. they saved a life and then went their respective ways, strangers again. >> i think it's great that citizens of the county can work together, and that's what we did in that situation. >> reporter: officer piaza said he would like to know who they were. they went above and beyond. >> i could never call myself a hero. this is my job. as we head back to work and school tomorrow, not the best day out there with rain and wind in the forecast pretty much from start to finish. as we look to wednesday, though, very mild and a nice day to look forward to. mark it on your calendar. next weekend, it's finally feeling more like january out there with highs in the upper 30s and 40s.

i'll make sure to point out the numbers on the 10-day. first let's talk about the rain that's going to continue moving in overnight tonight as the winds increase. take a look here at storm team 4 radar. really, it's this steady area of rain down in the southeast that's going to push in overnight tonight and throughout the day tomorrow. i'm seeing the steadiest and heaviest rain around the midmorning and midday hours. right now we have parts of georgia, south carolina and florida under tornado watches. thankfully no severe weather in our area, but we are going to be dealing with strong winds, and of course we're going to have the storm ranger deployed in a situation like this as we track the nor'easter in the area tomorrow with the rains and the winds. right now it's situated in belmar, new jersey. picking up light showers in the area and that will be the case for the evening hours. look at 6:00 a.m. it's raining everywhere. the yellow, that's a moderate rain. notice what happens as we move to 9:00 a.m. think about if you're heading to work around this time. this is a steady, moderate

potentially even heavy rain in the fredricksburg area. definitely want to budget some more time tomorrow morning. as we move to the afternoon and evening hours, we start to see scattered showers and the winds kind of dying down overnight, but tuesday it's still pretty windy out there. your outlook for your monday, the morning commute, moderate rain slowing you down. the winds out there as well. recess for the kids, it's likely indoors tomorrow. the evening commute, some showers are possible, damp roads are likely. if you're planning on heading to whitetail, liberty, rain is in the forecast. not the best day for skiing if you do happen to have monday off. currently we're in the 40s and 50s, 50 in the district, 47 in frederick and 40 in gaithersburg. we don't move much in our temperatures. we start around 50 tomorrow morning, and throughout date we find ourselves in the upper 40s. again, the steadiest and heaviest rain and strongest winds will be in the

minetski just finished a season of offensive coach. minetski was a defensive coach before with the chargers and most recently the colts. he also began his career as a linebacker for the redskins back in the late '80s. news4 sports also confirming that the redskins filling their coordinator position with matt cavanaugh. cavanaugh has been with the redskins the last two seasons helping to develop quarterback kirk cousins. he had two other stints with the oc with the bears in the late '90s and the ravens in the early 2000s. right now in the championship game, in atlanta, the falcons all over the green bay packers. they're leading 44-21 in the fourth quarter right now. matt ryan leading his team with four touchdowns in this game. atlanta for their second trip
