harassment turns to vandalism for local veterans. >> who would do this, especially to our organization? >> why they say it's all about the role they played in the inauguration. and who would open fire at a school bus stop with more than a dozen children nearby? tonight police need your help finding the suspect. news 4 at 11:00 starts now. good evening, we begin tonight with the white house and more executive action on a big issue, expected tomorrow from president trump. >> he spent his first few days had office fulfilling campaign promises. we've learned the next one he'll check off his list will deal with immigration. meanwhile, d.c.'s mayor is pushing back on a recent change to the white house website and a group of local veterans says they're getting harassed just for participating in the president's inaugural parade. >> we have team coverage starting with news 4's chris lawrence. >> trump

wall between the u.s. and mexico. sources are telling nbc news, tomorrow he's going to sign executive orders related to immigration and border security. earlier today he tweeted, big day planned on national security tomorrow. among many other things, we will build the wall. the president is heading to homeland security office to install retired general john kelly as the secretary. he'll sign orders, one of which will crack down on sanctuary cities, areas where local officials refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. the district is one of them. and so are prince georges and montgomery counties in maryland and alexandria and fairfax county in virginia. the president will go even further later this week and roll out plans to restrict the flow of refugees to the u.s. mr. trump will speak to an employee town hall at dhs, and it's important to point out,

any jobs that are necessary to meet national security needs. >> chris, thank you. white house press secretary sean spicer said today that the president was stating a personal belief when he told congressional leaders last night that, quote, illegals cost him the popular vote in november's election. spicer said the president was citing studies that he's seen in the past, but the national association of secretaries of state said it's not aware of any evidence supporting the president's claim. mr. trump said he believes three to five million people voted illegally in the election. d.c. leaders are now pushing back against what they call more alternative facts from the trump administration. specifically, a reference on the white house website to homicides here in the district. as news 4's meagan fitzgerald reports tonight, the numbers are out of date and something we've reported on before. >> reporter: that'sct

right. the white house website claims that the homicide rate in d.c. is up 50%. that's not factually correct. the d.c. mayor corrected that assertion when then candidate trump made that same claim back in july, but it doesn't seem to have made much of a difference. like any large city, d.c. is always grappling with crime. just today a man was killed in the 1600 block of benning road and northeast, the seventh homicide in the city this year. but according to the metropolitan police department, violent crime dropped 10% in 2016, and the homicide rate fell 17%. but if you go to the white house website, you wouldn't know it. on the standing-up for our law enforcement page, you'll see, it says, in our nation's capital, killings have risen by 50%. that statistic was accurate in 2015, but it's not correct anymore. d.c. mayor muriel bo

shortly after he said the same thing in july when accepting his party's nomination. >> in our nation's capital, killings have risen by 50%. >> reporter: but the talking point still made its way to the white house website. >> these things are easily checkable, easily verifiable. and that speaks to another deep issue. you're the federal government, people are supposed to be able to rely on your data. >> reporter: dr. greg carr says this doubling down on inaccurate information that we've seen so far from the trump administration is alarming. >> these assertions of data may then shake the confidence in not just the domestic population of the united states, but international population as well. >> reporter: mayor bowser's office released a statement which says in part, quote, for the white house to list alternative facts about the district's homicide ris

officers and the honorable thing to do would be to remove those lies from their website. we've reached out to the white house press staff for a comment, but we are still waiting for a response. doreen? >> thank you meagan. the north carolina man accused of bringing i ga gun ina pizza shop is considering a plea deal. welch is accused of carrying an assault-style rifle into comet ping-pong on december 4th. he fired the gun but no one was hurt. welch went to the restaurant after becoming obsessed with a conspiracy theory that it was a front for sex trafficking, covered up by democrats. he's due back in court next month. tonight, local veterans say they're getting harassed for participating in president trump's inauguration. >> they say it's been happening online and over the phone, but today it reached another level. news 4's darcy spencer

details. dorothy? >> reporter: well, this is the only entrance in and the exit of the amvets in prince georges county and someone has been throwing screws and nails right here in the driveway. they firmly believe it's because this group marched in the inauguration parade. >> wide variety of nails and screws here and different sizes. >> reporter: these are just some of the hundreds of nails and screws found in the parking lot entrance of a veterans organization in prince georges county. >> look at the way the screws and the nails are all distributed in our parking lot, laterally, like a spike strip. it's purposeful. >> reporter: the nails damaged tires on ten employee cars, and the group's career center truck, used to help veterans find jobs. >> the fact that the truck now has a bunch of nails in the tires is directly

to veterans. >> reporter: leaders here at amvets, a non-partisan organization believe this is why it's happening. because the group marched in president trump's inaugural parade on friday. they applied to march even before the election was decided. >> to me, it's unimaginable, who would do this, especially to our organization. >> reporter: amvet leaders say they received nasty e-mails and social media messages after the presidential inauguration committee published the list of parade participants. but they never thought it would escalate to vandalism. >> we're all for freedom of speech and find other ways that don't hurt people and cause damage to people's property. >> reporter: prince george's county police confirmed they are investigating this as an act of vandalism. leaders here tell me, if the person is caught, they hope they would be punished by having to volunteer at a veterans hospital and pay restitution to all the

their tires replaced. jim, back to you. >> darcy spencer, thank you. new tonight, metro's investigating reports of something you never expect to happen on your train. doors on a yellow line train opening before the train arrived at its destination. some metro riders tweeted that it happened on elevated tracks just outside the reagan national airport stop. metro stels us, it's looking into the reports and that the train in question has been taken out of service now. no one was hurt. people who live in alexandria had a chance to meet their new police chief at a welcome reception. tonight michael brown was sworn in today and said he's ready to get to work. brown spent the majority of his career in law enforcement in california. he rose through the ranks of the california highway patrol after becoming an officer in 1997. in 2010, he moved to alexandria where he worked for the national highway traffic association. turning to our weather now, and b

at a school bus stop this morning. this is roland sims. he's considered armed and dangerous. police say he shot the woman in front of 15 kids this morning at chester and winthrop streets in oxen hill. today we talked with the father of one of the children who witnessed the shooting. >> it's just terrible. it's traumatized them kids. this is a really nice neighborhood. but it was really sad kids got to deal with that. kids were running everywhere. >> the victim's recovering from the hospital. again, police are asking for your help to find this man, roland sims. they say if you see him, do not approach him. just call 911. d.c. police searching for the person who shot a man in the face outside a liquor store this morning. after that shooting, police tell us the victim ran toward a crowd at nationals park. the crowd there was for a job fair. detectives are not releasing any details about a possible motive, but they don't believe this shooting was random. at last check, the vti

the mother who lost six of her nine children in a house fire in baltimore is out of the hospital tonight. katie malone was discharged this morning. she posted a message on facebook thanking everyone for their support. her house, you'll recall, caught fire two weeks ago, while her husband was at work. she escaped along with three of her kids. she's still trying to finalize funeral plans now for the six children who died. investigators still haven't said what caused the fire. a family's outrage over a new reality tv program that they say hit way too close to home. it follows real police officers, similar to the long-running show "cops," but this time the action is streamed live. when one family tuned in last week, they say they were blindsided by horrific news. nbc's gabe gutierrez has details. >> reporter: in its first season on a&e, they follow

country and broadcast in realtime on friday nights. but the latest episode is causing controversy after a camera crew rolled up at a crime scene and a shooting victim's mother said she learned of his death on national television. >> at the scene, i seen yellow tape. when i seen that, i already knew, somebody gone. and i knew it was my brother. >> reporter: the richland county sheriff's department said it allows live p.d. to ride along for transparency. >> this is a new day and age we're dealing with. body cameras will be given to media as well. >> reporter: the show's executive producer said "live p.d. operates on a slight delay and follows strict standards for news gathering. >> it's not a reality program. it's not unscripted television. we are a live, documentary program. >> reporter: he said there was at least one family member at
