restrictions for people who want to enter the u.s. from several predominantly muslim nations. the move has led to people being detained at airports. trump's orders have sparked protests in this country, including one at dulles international airport. but first, let's take a closer look at the countries being affected. we're talking about iraq, syria, iran, sudan, libya, somali and yemen. darcy spencer is live at dulles. what's the situation at the airport right now? >> reporter: erika, virginia's governor held a press conference here at dulles international airport this afternoon, telling the media that a family had been detained here at the airport, apparently had traveled internationally, was trying to reenter the country. a family with children. and was detained. according to the governor, this family was legally allowed to come here into the united states. he is demanding answers. now, there are demonstrators here at the airport, even as we

support for refugees and for immigrants. the governor says he wants answers from the department of homeland security, who is being detained at the airport, why, and are any virginia residents. he is instructing the attorney general to explore all legal options. >> refugees are welcome here! no hate, no fear! refugees are welcome here! >> i am also very concerned about the national security implications of what this message has sent to members of the muslim faith, in all faiths, that we are no longer open and welcoming. this is not the nation that we know. this is not the nation that we love. >> the message this sends to all minority communities in virginia and in america, especially those virginians and those americans who are muslim, sends a message they are somehow less, because of their faith.

trauma. deputies are investigating whether alcohol contributed to that crash. now new details in the deaths of three people in mclean. fairfax county police say a man murdered his wife and his teenage son before shooting himself. officers found the bodies of hong chen, shirley zhou and james chen in the family's home on wendy hill road yesterday afternoon. the georgetown university community on edge tonight after a student was kidnapped and then released. dc police need you to take a close look at some video we now have. these are surveillance cameras at a jewelry store that captured the suspect. police say the male student was grabbed and forced into a vehicle on o street northwest thursday afternoon. that suspect's gray or silver suv that you see here was also captured on surveillance cameras. police say the kidnapper drove the student to multiple atms along wisconsin avenue and tried to make big purchases

d.c. police are looking for the person who set somebody's hair on fire. during friday's inauguration detectives have been following leads, but now they need your help. we have these pictures over facebook and twitter tonight. police want to talk to the woman in this picture. d.c. police are calling the incident an assault with a dangerous weapon. they say the suspect used a lighter to set another woman's hair on fire. that victim was not

friday in the 700 block of pennsylvania avenue. detectives have received lots of tips from the public about this. but they haven't been able to find this suspect. a new traffic pattern should make a tricky interchange in northern virginia a little easier to navigate. it opened this morning where route meets hay market and shifts traffic from one side of the road to another without having a left turn. v dot says it will help keep traffic moving in the area and the entire project should be down done by the summer. the cold temperatures didn't stop these guys from making a splash. i can never get over this video. it s all for a good cauwase

you're watching news4 at 6:00. a texas mosque that was previously the target of a hate crime burst into flames this morning. a convenience store clerk spotted the smoke at the islamic center at victoria and called the fire department. the cause of the fire is not known. the local fire marshall has requested help from state authorities and from atf investigators. it was in 2013 that somebody spray painted a hate message on the outside of that building. and the center was burglarized a week ago, as well. in northern virginia, people are reacting to the president's most controversial executive order yet.
