. news4 at 6:00 starts now. >> a controversial order from president donald trump, sending shock waves across the country and around the world. good evening. i'm erika gonzales. president trump has imposed a temporary ban on syrian refugees coming into the united states. the president has also pled

restrictions for people who want to enter the u.s. from several predominantly muslim nations. the move has led to people being detained at airports. trump's orders have sparked protests in this country, including one at dulles international airport. but first, let's take a closer look at the countries being affected. we're talking about iraq, syria, iran, sudan, libya, somali and yemen. darcy spencer is live at dulles. what's the situation at the airport right now? >> reporter: erika, virginia's governor held a press conference here at dulles international airport this afternoon, telling the media that a family had been detained here at the airport, apparently had traveled internationally, was trying to reenter the country. a family with children. and was detained. according to the governor, this family was legally allowed to come here into the united states. he is demanding answers. now, there are demonstrators here at the airport, even as we

support for refugees and for immigrants. the governor says he wants answers from the department of homeland security, who is being detained at the airport, why, and are any virginia residents. he is instructing the attorney general to explore all legal options. >> refugees are welcome here! no hate, no fear! refugees are welcome here! >> i am also very concerned about the national security implications of what this message has sent to members of the muslim faith, in all faiths, that we are no longer open and welcoming. this is not the nation that we know. this is not the nation that we love. >> the message this sends to all minority communities in virginia and in america, especially those virginians and those americans who are muslim, sends a message they are somehow less, because of their faith.

you're watching news4 at 6:00. a texas mosque that was previously the target of a hate crime burst into flames this morning. a convenience store clerk spotted the smoke at the islamic center at victoria and called the fire department. the cause of the fire is not known. the local fire marshall has requested help from state authorities and from atf investigators. it was in 2013 that somebody spray painted a hate message on the outside of that building. and the center was burglarized a week ago, as well. in northern virginia, people are reacting to the president's most controversial executive order yet.
