there, and you may ask yourself why we are just hearing about it tonight. it is a question on social media. the fairfax police say it first appeared that lizzy took her son and left willingly, but now that theory has since changed. these are the two faces fairfax county desperately want to find, 16-year-old lizzy and her baby boy, aiden just five months old. police say the teen lived here with her family at the springfield square apartments off roden court. where the relatives last saw her and her son, those who knew of the case were not all that willing to show their own faces. we spoke with somebody close to the family, out of fear they say they didn't want to be identified. lizzy did not take anything, no clothes or the same pajamas she had on, and the baby, too, only

of the 14th. on the 15th. police say lizzy's mom called them. >> when her mom woke up the next day, found out she was missing and immediately filed a police report. >> so why not put the word out right away? >> the investigation indicated she left home voluntarily with her son likely to go with the son's father. >> but that since changed. police now believe that lizzy and aiden could be in danger, fearing the father, who could be a suspect. >> we believe he has gang ties, it obviously probably is not a good situation. >> those who know lizzy say she is quiet, and loves her family. they have tried and tried to get ahold of her. they say we tried to call her phone, the phone is disconnected. we're worried because we have not heard anything from her since. >> as for the baby's father, police say tonight they don't know where he is. they have been interviewing his family but as of

she have exhausted all of their leads and desperately need the public's help tonight. live, reporting in springfield, virginia. i'm david culver, news 4. president trump has nominated a judge in his 40s to his supreme court. the youngest nominee in 25 years. the president delivered an opening shot at democrats who may try to derail it. >> the qualifications of judge gorsuch are beyond dispute. >> neil gorsuch came out of the same harvard law class as president obama, and the judge is no stranger to d.c., having served for two supreme court judges, he is considered one of the most thoughtful writers, and has views like antonin scalia. activists protested the

took office. march the 16th, then president obama makes his nomination anyway, putting forth judge merrick garland. just scalia was known for his fiercely conservative views and judge garland would have changed the balance on the court. he never got a hearing. republican senators stalled until january 3rd, the end of the 114th congress and the day garland's nomination officially expired. now four weeks later, president trump puts forth neil gorsuch, some democrats are skeptical tonight but indicated he will get a hearing. >> virginia is joining a federal lawsuit challenging the president's executive order restricting immigration from certain countries. the lawsuit represents more than 60 people who were detained or deported from dulles international airport over this past weekend. virginia attorney general mark herring calls the ban unlawful,

>> the commonwealth of virginia and our people are already being harmed by this ban. >> virginia senators tim kaine and mark warner are also co--sponsoring a bill to rescind the order saying it does not reflect american values. new tonight, a huge haul for area bike thieves, just one stop and they got away with dozens of very expensive rides, stealing them all from the same parking garage even though the bikes were all locked up. news 4's jackie benson talked to us them tonight. >> reporter: jim, not only were these bikes locked up, some of them with pretty thick locks but they were in a bicycle cage that you need a key fob to access. >> i had two separate locks, i had a pretty good u-lock on it, and i used the motorcycle lock. >> reporter: chris is one of the

residents of the mount vernon triangle apartments finding their bikes gone. there were several more taken from inside a secure bike cage. >> broken locks on the floor, and just broken chains, everything was cut. and they didn't even leave any parts of my lock, so i don't know how many they did take. >> i hate bike thieves. >> reporter: many in this popular neighborhood choose not to own a car. they use their bikes to get to work and get around. >> i keep my bike in my apartment. >> reporter: chris says that is just what they were doing with his girlfriend's bike, which the thieves did not take. >> we have it close to the bed, she is not particularly happy about that for now. >> reporter: we're told there are no security cameras in the bicycle cage area, but the police are reviewing images from other parts of the property. live in northwest, jackie

benson, news 4. and anger after vandalism at two county hospitals. this afternoon, the chopper flew over the area, more than $100,000 worth of damage caused at walter johnson high school, both were sent letters, looking into criminal charges. and the national museum of african-american history and culture will release timed entry passes for the museum tomorrow. those tickets are for the last month of may only, and only available through e-ticks. a limited number of walk-up passes will be available through the week starting at 1 p.m. the museum has welcomed nearly 750,000 visitors since opening back in september. work is picking up right now on one of our most traveled

scaffolding on the bridge, as they work to cover the concrete surface. the bridge is not in any danger of falling, but is 100 years old and needs cosmetic repairs. soon you may notice barges coming in to get to the hard to reach concrete cracks. there will be off-peak lane closures, so the crews can work on the iron fence. and house republicans working on a bill that could kill the death with dignity bill. the senate leaders are not going down without a fight, hoping to end the bill, saying it's a violation of home rule. d.c. letters say they don't have the votes to top house republicans but plan to lobby the senate to step in. >> the bottom line is this, the 13 members of the council are elected by the people of the district of columbia. >> and congress would not swoop in and pick a piece and say no. >> any other member have an

somebody shot two people today in bowie and police are still looking for the suspect tonight. they found a man and teen shot in an suv this afternoon near the intersection of church road. police say the victims were not from around there.

and both expected to be okay. it's the second shooting in this neighborhood this week. if you know anything that may help police give them a call. thousands of fans are already flocking to houston, texas, ahead of the big game this sunday. and a familiar face is in charge of keeping everybody safe. former d.c. police chief kathy lanier is now the head of nfl security. and she went over today the security plans for super bowl li. nfl officials say they have hired 4,000 private security and crowd management personnel to help to secure the game. >> although there are differences in security and it may even be a higher level of security, technology has allowed it to be more convenient and accessible so i think the level of security we have here is very tight, but it also allows people to come through here and feel safe passing through the event. >> aaw
