just yet but the clouds will be thickening up with time today and the clouds will keep us cooler. yesterday 56 with the sunshine. today mostly mid to upper 40s for afternoon highs and maybe a sprinkle or a light rain shower coming in probably not till after 3:00 or 4:00 today and the weekend is looking much colder with that sunday storm not looking as much. light rain showers and snow showers out there in the mountains of west virginia now. that's the reason we have a precautionary tale of a rain drop coming our way today. >> not too much as we go through the afternoon today but don't be surprised if you do see a stray sprinkle out there. temperatures will be getting back into the upper 40s for most of the area. 36 degrees in the district. 32 quantico, but fredericksburg is coming in at 45 degrees. dulles at 28 and leesburg at 45 degrees so the clouds messing with our temperatures this morning and also as we go through the afternoon for some areas too. for today, stray show

this hours after a driver did this. rammed and crashed their car into the side of a house. this is out in the green belt area of maryland. still working to find out more information about the driver, whether or not they were hurt and also the reasoning behind this. we know the investigation is ongoing. stay with news 4 for updates. now i'll send it back to you. developing this morning fairfax county police say a 16-year-old girl you see here and her five month old baby are in danger. >> she went missing two weeks ago with her son aiden. we're live at the police station with more on where police believe they can be. >> reporter: well, they think they could be with the baby's father. now, initially they thought this was a voluntary move. this morning, they don't think that's the case. so let's take you back to when this initially

her mom wakes up and finds that she's no longer there. the baby is no longer there. they call police, they file a missing persons report. our news 4 spoke to a family friend that says they don't believe they even took anything with them, that they left the house wearing only their pajamas. so we fast forward two weeks, no phone calls, no sightings, there's nothing. so again, we have known that the baby's father has also been missing but now what we're hearing from police is that he may have ties to a gang. and while we're not certain if that plays a role in this case, police adding that it doesn't help anything either. we're live in springfield this morning. back over to you. a family in prince george's county also searching for their loved one this morning. this is 13-year-old jason hinton. he went missing last night from the addison road area.

and red jacket and a backpack. now turning to president trump's first 100 days in his big announcement. in a prime time speech last night he unveiled his pick for the supreme court. judge neil gorsuch. the president called gorsuch the best judge for the job while gorsuch promised to uphold the same principles as justice scalia. >> justice scalia was a lion of the law. agree or disagree with him, all of his colleagues on the bench cherish his wisdom and his humor. senate minority leader chuck schumer saying last night that approving gorsuch will require 60 votes. here's a closer look at neil gor zup's background. he's a 49-year-old denver native. he has some local ties as well. he attended georgetown prep while his mother was leading the

under president reagan. he's also a graduate of harvard law school and a former classmate of former president obama. he was a clerk before going to oxford for a philosophy degree. if confirmed gorsuch would not change the makeup of the court since he would be replacing justice scalia who was also a conservative. today the senate judiciary committee will try to take up a vote on the vote for jeff sessions. the vote was originally scheduled for yesterday, but democrats used a procedural move to end the hearing without a vote. and while senator sessions awaits his confirmation, president trump has nominated his deputy attorney general. he's picked rod rosen stein for the job. he is the longest serving u.s. attorney in the country and was appointed by president george w. bush in 2005. he will need to be

today the new man in charge of education in d.c. will report for his first official day on the job. just to refresh your memory here. chancellor wilson has more than 20 years of experience in education. he comes to d.c. from oakland, california. he was a superintendent there. he plans to focus on preparing students for the transition from high school to college. this morning d.c. mayor and wilson will hold a news conference at deal middle school. maryland democrats will be watching to see whether governor larry hogan takes a stand on any of trump administration policies today. the republican governor is set to give his third state of the state address at noon. he has not taken any public positions on any of the president's policies so far. his aides say the speech will focus on his legislative agenda which could include issues such as tax credits or his environmental plans. set up another alarm on your phone this morning for 9:00. that is when you'll have your next chance to get tickets to the nat

so we've been talking about this missing bob cat from the national zoo. apparently it's put some d.c. schools on alert. yesterday afternoon schools

activities indoors just as a precaution. this comes after a tip reporting spotting her in the zoo's surrounding neighborhoods. officials are not sure that they will get her back. >> school officials are assuring that she poses no theretos to the public. >> some other cats will be making history. for the first time, the dog show is including felines. don't expect the cats to jump through hoops and we can't imagine that the dogs and cats will be on the floor together. so we're going to have to wait and see what happens. i mean, this is a big break from tradition. dog lovers everywhere are freaking out. >> i have never heard of a cat show. >> cats don't do shows. like listen, i'm going to do what i want to do. >> we'll see later this year. >> it might be interesting to watch that. might make for good tv. i love the dog show, by the way. always the best.

i could watch it over and over again. this morning though before you head out we have a lot of areas just seeing different temperatures. some areas in the 20s. some are in the 40s. in the district though we're at 36 degrees. southwest wind not very strong at all. don't expect a windy day today like it was yesterday through part of the area, but here's what it is. 30 degrees. we have a 28 at dulles but fredericksburg 45. this afternoon we'll be getting into the 40s. so here is your wednesday morning commute. we're dry this morning. 37 degrees by 8:00 a.m. by noon today, chance of a sprinkle. i think most of the area will be dry. 47 degrees and dry for the evening commute. let's take a look at the traffic this morning. we have chopper out there over in montgomery county. >> over this problem, so again, 108 shut down just north of sundown road. this is near griffith and that's where they're diverting traffic here this morning. sounds like a head-on collision. you can see a lot o

northbound traffic is stopped and everybody headed the other direction. southbound is being pushed on to griffith road. so very slow through that area. southbound bw parkway after 198, a broken down vehicle still in the right lane. taking a look at travel times, 270 isn't bad. top of the beltway looks okay right now. 66 and 95 in virginia, no major pain quite yet. thank you. it is 6:14 right now and the wife of the orlando nightclub shooter omar mateen is expected to appear in court today. she's been charged with aiding, abetting and obstruction of justice. prosecutors say she knew about her husband's plans to attack the pulse nightclub last june. her attorney says she had no knowledge of it. breaking news right now in maryla maryland. >> people being evacuated? carbon monoxide here? >> this is in the annapolis area. there's

an assisted living facility we're told by officials. this as you mentioned, aaron, high levels of carbon monoxide. officials telling us were found in the hallway and common areas of this building. they do say that no trace of that odorless and tasteless gas was detected in the actual rooms of residents, but still at least a dozen people were evacuated. they were moved to other buildings. early reports showing that a heating and air system may be the main issue. we know that the gas is turned off for now and bge has been notified. back to you. thank you. new this morning police in texas are trying to figure out who hit a child with a car and then kept going. we want to warn you right now that this video is hard to watch but the child will be okay. a five-year-old was crossing the street when a driver in a silver car hit

the impact threw the boy into the air and the car kept going. the five-year-old suffered a severe concussion, facial bruising and cuts. his mom says he was only in the hospital for one day, and he's doing okay. >> glad to hear that. two principals are fuming over vandalism at their schools. take a look here. chopper 4 flew over a spray painted scoreboard at winston church hill high school. over the last week taggers also vandalized some buildings in bethes bethesda. both principlals sent a letter home to parents. the damage at both schools more than $100,000. >> today is the day we get a glimpse at the future of football. it is national signing day. recruits all over the country are choosing which school to play for. many have already made their picks including one of this year's top recruits. chase young is from our area. he will s

years in the making right here at station 34 in prince george's county. brother and sister michael and linda hart finally got to meet the firefighter who saved their lives all those years ago. newman pulled them from a burning house. this was 1959. they were only two and three at the time. their mother was able to get out of the house, but the children were upstairs taking naps. stew got the call. he remembers rescuing michael and linda from their beds. 58 years is a long time to wait to say thank you. >> sometimes the universe opens up and lets us see things that are amazing and again, thank you so much for being there that day. thank you for just doing your job, and i hope we can remain friends forever. >> reporter: pulling off the reunion took work. michael found an old newspaper clipping. in the article, the name stewart

peter alexander is live at the white house for us. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning to you. for all of donald trump's controversies, this pick may be the best thing that president trump has done to help unify republicans. he delivered on a campaign promise to nominate conservatives to the supreme court. neil gorsuch has impeccable prudentials. he's a classmate of president obama. he's viewed as a widely respected conservative jurist. in the environment we exist right now the democratic base being so angry about the travel ban has really raised the temperature in congress that's making it harder for democratic leaders to be supporting the president on anything. democrats have been threatening to filibuster this selection, but senator lindsay graham among others told me if they do so it would be a great disservice to the senate. back to you. >> peter alexander live at the white house for us. be sure to check out peter's full report coming up next on the "

state. the full senate likely to vote on his nomination today. all he needs is a simple majority to get the job. it is 6:48. repairs will need to happen at a home after a car slammed right into it overnight. look at this video here ft we're told the person who lived there was not hurt, but we are still trying to find out how the driver is doing. the cause of the crash is not yet known. we're close to five years in the d.c. area were on edge because of robberies like these. these simple city crime ring would steal from people at gas stations. the car and id theft crime ring brought in nearly $5 million before it was finally shut down. we now know the ring leader, jeff cruz will spend ten years in prison and then three years of supervised release. cruz was also ordered to pay more than $1 million in restitution. today a new era begins for d.c. public schools as chancellor wilson

a little touchup. a little cosmetic work done over the next couple of years. justin finch is live at the bridge now for a look at what we can expect. >> reporter: d dot says this is a sprucing up here and it's no surprise, close to 100 years old. a lot of work to do here. all set these repairs will take about two years. they began back in september. you may not notice though until just recently the scaffolding going up and even barges down below so crews can get closer to those harder to reach spots. come fall the plan is to shore up bridge walls and to repaint the iron fencing here so you may see some lane closures. here is what else is on the d dot to do list. >> we have about 40,000 square feet of concrete patches and about 2,100 linear feet of concrete cracks that are all being
