only on 4. dozens of police officers have signed onto a complaint against the prince george's county police department. they say the department looked over promotions for minorities and handled misconduct inappropriately. >> reporter: we know that the complaint is in the hands of the justice department. we do not know if they are filing or beginning a formal investigation into that complaint. after our story broke, we spoke with prince george's county police spokespeople who say they are all other what's happening in this department. >> there are issues out there. the chief wants to act, plain and simple. >> reporter: more than 70 minority prince george's county police officers have filed onto a complaint alleging discrimination within the police department. >> the number of people that was involved with it, you know, 50, then 63, and now we're over 70. it has become a serious prm.

>> reporter: the local chapters of the national hispanic lomplt association and the united black police officers association filed the complaint in october. department of justice spokesmen released a statement saying the department of justice is in receipt of correspondence about this matter. that correspondence has been referred to the civil rights division for response. we have no further kmemcomment. >> some concern is just fair treatment. one officer get punished -- a white officer gets punished one way and a black officer gets punished another way. promotion, how they interact with each other. >> reporter: prince george's county police chief announced he and the police union are creating a panel to review the international policies. it will review promotion policies, best prc

the coschool had to go into lockdown. the speech was cancelled. >> this is the home of free speech. >> this morning donald trump sent a tweet that appeared to threaten to pull federal funding for berkeley because of that protest. a seal team six mission came to a deadly end and tonight the white house is pushing back on questions that it wasn't properly planned. navy seal william ryan owens was killed during that mission. white house press secretary sean spicer says the pentagon approved that mission in december before mr. trump took office. but the plan required a moonless night which doesn't come around until late january. president trump

ma military advisors. inmates took over a prison for nearly two days in delaware but it ended when police stormed the building. fir the prisoners used sharp objects to take over the facility. >> reporter: following a nearly 18-hour ordeal, a delaware corrections officer is dead after inmates initially took four hostages in a prison building. officials put the prison lockdown midday wednesday when a guard called for help. two of the hostages were released wednesday night. but by 5:00 a.m. thursday authorities made the decision to storm the building and end the standoff using a backhoe to breach the barricades. >> those tactical teams quickly located our female staff member and had her removed safely from the building in le

>> reporter: killed in the siege was corrections officer steven floyd, a 16-year veteran with the decht of correctionpartment. the prison guards unit is blaming limited staffing on his death and say his quick action saved lives. >> as the inmates attempted to take over the building, sergeant floyd told a couple of lieutenants to get out, that it was a trap. >> reporter: meanwhile authorities say inmates were able to use sharp instruments to take control of the facility. >> we also have to investigate what happened here, determine the facts to make sure that it never happens again. >> reporter: it isn't clear if any inmates were held hostage but all 120 prisoners in the building are considered suspects. an 18-year-old has been arrested for a murder inside

police have four men in custody after an attempted robbery at a cvs in montgomery county. >> tonight we've learned the fbi is look into this case with the possibility it could be linked to more than two dozen robberies in maryland. darcy spencer joins us live with details. >> reporter: these robbers have been hitting cvss and 7-elevens. the last one was early this morning here at this cvs. montgomery county police continuing to interrogate four suspects. they believe they brought this crime spree to an end. the fbi is involved in the investigation of more than 30 robberies in maryland. the cases could go to federal court for prosecution. four men were taken into custody after an early

robbery here at the cvs in silver spring. charg charges are pending. >> there are some similar and like events in other jurisdictions, robbery detectives have been speaking to one another for the past several weeks. >> reporter: the latest crime happened right across the street from the fourth district police station. >> they really have some guts to do this. you've got to be careful. you always have to look over your shoulder to be safe. >> reporter: police in montgomery county were already watching cvss and other 24-hour businesses after a string of armed robberies in recent weeks. this is surveillance video of the gunman from one of those cases. early this morning, an officer noticed a car leaving the area around the time of the cvs robbery. an officer pulled that car over about five miles away near the intercounty connector and took

custody. >> i'm glad they got caught. >> reporter: police in prince george's county and howard counties as well as the city of greenbelt told news4 they're working cases that could be connected to this investigation. and we're continuing to follow up with montgomery county police to see if the four people they took into custody are arrested and what, if any, charges they'll be facing. we'll post those updates on the nbc washington app and coming up on news4 at 11:00. chopper 4 was over the scene in silver spring this morning as a shooting suspect was taken into custody. a 19-year-old woman was shot in the leg on leisure world boulevard around 9:45. police say the man had a gun on him. no word on the name of the man they arrested or a motive. in fairfax county police are getting a lesson from a civilian. he's afr

so far 143 people have applied or been nominated to serve on a police-civilian review panel in fairfax county. the nine member panel is one of many reforms recently put into place. complaints about abuse of authority and serious misconduct will still be investigated first by police. but civilians unhappy with those findings can turn to this new panel. folks in virginia have mixed feelings about the so-called bathroom but issuill issue. a slim majority think people should use bathrooms that correspond to their sex at birth, not the sex they identify with. that's 45-42

cash from atms. the kidnapper did release the student who is okay. some 2 million people in the united states are suffering from s substance disorders related to opio opioids. tonight there's word that the cost of a life-saving drug used to safe victims of heroin overdoses is skyrocketing. mark segraves has more on that. >> it's been difficult in some situations. there has been a national shortage of these emergency medicines. >> reporter: paramedics across the country have had to deal with the rising cost of drugs and shortages. one of those is an antidote for victims of heroin overdoses which has seen a spike in cost.
