israel to stop announcing plans to build new settlements in the occupied west bank. the statement clarified that the administration is concerned specifically with the construction of new settlements, not the existing settlements, which it does not view as an impediment to middle east peace. this could signal fault lines in the otherwise warm relationship between president donald trump and israel prime minister benjamin netanyahu, who is expected to visit the white house in two weeks. developing overnight, the white house may hit iran with new sanctions as early as today. officials say they would be in response to iran's terrorist activity and repeated ballistic missile tests, and there are strong support for sanctions in congress, as leaders from both sides of the aisle are encouraging the white house to punish iran. we had put on notice first, now word of new sanctions. what's the reaction where you are? >> reporter: well, frances, exactly. this nuclear deal is barely a ye

on notice and is facing fresh sanctions for a ballistic missile test, which was probably launched to measure president trump's response. although, the president is uncharted territory for iran, animosity and friction with america isn't. in fact, anti-american in iran is a defining characteristic of this islamic republic since it was founded four decades ago. the ruling establishment here, they fired back yesterday. they lambasted president trump. they promised more missile tests. in reality, they're trying to figure out now what their next move is in this long-running chess game with the united states. hostility with america gives hard liners in iran more of a platform, which could spell trouble for president rouhani. he was voted in on a promise to seal the nuclear deal, bring security to iran, and lift sanctions in order to get their economy going in the country. if he can't deliver on that, he's in real trouble. it could give hard liners a big platform in may's

white supremacist, bannon, would be a permanent member. >> so far there's been no response from president trump or the white house. a community is in mourning today following the murder of sergeant steven floyd, a delaware corrections officer with 16 years of experience. floyd was found dead at the prison yesterday after authorities ended a dramatic hostage crisis there. they used a backhoe to smash through a barricade of foot lockers and then stormed the building, saving the other hostages from the inmates. they had sharpened their weapons. the guards union president said floyd yelled out a warning during the prison takeover, saving his co-workers' lives. firefighters in virginia are battling a massive blaze at a recycling center about 20 miles outside of washington, d.c. the two-alarm fire broke out around 9:00 p.m. last night, tearing through the roof of the fairfax county recycling and disposal center. fire officials say about three stories worth of trash is burning inside an incinerator. ab

fine. brand new this morning some breaking news in prince george's county. >> good morning, you just heard melissa mention the police activity investigation going on in lanhan so we can now tell you that police got a phone call lying unresponsive on a sidewalk. so police show up there. we are hearing that that man was found unresponsive with no trauma to the body. this was around 1:00 this morning. you're looking at what appears to be the intersection of whitfield chapel road and route 450 where that investigation was going on. this is in lanham. one man found unresponsive in that area and that's where you've got that police activity. >> thank you. it is now 4:29. now to this developing story near alexandria, virginia. fairfax county police are working to find out how a woman was hit and killed by a
