sunshine in your super bowl weekend forecast, but we'll have to get throuhilly friday first. >> we will get to that in just a minute here. first though, we are tracking some breaking news out of paris overnight. >> shots fired just outside of the world famous louvre. erika gonzales is live at the live desk with the latest. >> let's get you emerging details here from the live desk on the situation outside the louvre. the area that's been evacuated now a heavy police presence there because a soldier opened fire on a man we now know armed with a machete there in paris, france, outside the louvre museum. the head of french capital's police force saying we are dealing with an attack from an individual who was clearly aggressive and represented a direct threat and whose comments led us to believe that he wished to carry out a terrorist incident. this again coming from the head of the french capital's police force. we understand that that

looks like it's going to be staying on the cold side for the weekend. your outdoor planner hoar for today, chilly and dry. tomorrow looks good, but on the cold side and sunday finally turning a little bit milder. exactly how mild, let's go over to cheena. >> decent temperatures but look at the weekend like chuck was just hinting at. saturday, 39 for a high. our normal is 45. that's where we'll go down to and those morning lows will be below freezing especially tomorrow morning. by sunday we're talking about that milder day like chuck mentioned. 50 degrees and just about mostly cloudy skies but staying dry so that's the good news for your super bowl plans. temperatures are in the mid-30s before you step outside. some areas in the low 30s but issues out there on the roadways but let's take a look at those with melissa. >> southbound 295, broken down vehicle in the

also still hanging around northbound 295 after benning road in northeast we have that work zone still blocking the right lane. westbound 50 at 301, a crash still hanging around there. same thing, southbound 5 with that crash reported southbound 210 near wilson bridge drive and then taking a look here, 66 and 95, 66 is okay. seeing a new problem 95 north parkway crash, i'll be back with travel times in ten minutes. right now a trash and recycling center consumed by flames still has crews busy this morning. take a look at this. this was the scene last night in fairfax county with chopper 4 over the scene in lorton. >> we're there life now with the latest on this. >> reporter: well, guys, this is a very difficult fire to fight. just got an update a little while ago from the assistant fire chief. he said they could be out here for days. if you look behind

see the facility here on furnace road, it is still smoldering. let's take a live picture here from chopper. you can see overhead just the amount of smoke that is still billowing from this business. now, they recycle and dispose of about 3,000 tons of trash and debris every single day. last night, the building which houses the incinerator as well as a power plant, well, it caught on fire. there were three stories of trash on fire inside the building when firefighters arrived. let's take a look at that video from last night because it really is quite dramatic. very, very difficult to fight, because we're told that the firefighters really are having a difficult time getting water on the core of the fire because it's inside this structure. so when they spray their hoses, you know, they're spraying the walls and the like, so they're really not able to get into the central core of the trash where this really is continuing to smolder. now, the smoke

around in surrounding areas. we could see the smoke rising from 95, interstate 95 as we were making our way down here. the chief believes this is going to be a big job, could be here for days. no injuries, no word yet on what started this fire. back to you in the studio. >> thank you, megan. grecrews are preparing for super bowl li in houston right now and we are working to help you prepare for your celebration in our area. >> how you may run into me issues if you plan to take metro to a party. >> reporter: aaron, on metro it's suggesting riders build in an extra 45 minutes for their weekend ride especially for the orange, blue or silver trains. those six stations now impacted by those weekend repairs.

see free shuttle buses replacing trains between the eastern market and foggy bottom stops and also the plaza and metro central stations will run yellow and green service only those lower platforms will be closing. for riders traveling between the virginia and d.c. areas try taking the yellow line. that way you can hop on to the red line and that will get you around downtown d.c. but if you are taking the orange, blue and silver trains this weekend, service will be running in sections only. these repairs we now know will include cell and radio transmission repairs in tunnel areas and also track repairs too and even though it is super bowl sunday, we are told that's a low ridership time for metro so be prepared for all of that. back in to you. >> thank you. 6:06 right now. we have some breaking news in prince george's county. >> we're following a death investigation at the live desk. >> this is a story that we sed

broadcast. we can now tell you the update that that area whitfield chapel road near route 450 in lanham where a death investigation is underway is now clear. it's open. melissa had been reporting that you were going to have to go around these streets because all this had been cloedsed off. that is now open. not exactly sure if officers are still there on the scene. they got a call about 1:00 in the morning responding to that intersection because somebody had said they saw somebody lying on the ground. well, officers arrived and they did, in fact, find a man unresponsive on the sidewalk. police say the victim did not have trauma to the body, but that he did, in fact, die, so there is a death investigation underway there. again, this is in lanham at whitfield chapel road, very close to a bus stop there on the sidewalk. at the live desk i'm erika gonzales. now to this developing story near alexandria, virginia. fairfax county police are

hit and killed by a pickup truck at a well marked intersection last night. they've not released her name, but say she was hit at little river turnpike and braddock road. police are questioning the driver of that truck. protesters are turned away. another right wing speaker from a college campus, this time at nyu. this happened last night. demonstrators faced off with officer just off campus. a university spokes person said like wednesday night at cal berkeley, most of them are not actually students. >> now, the college republicans invited mcginnis to speak but someone pepper sprayed him on the way in. he's a conservative actor and comedian and also the cofounder of vice media. this was the scene on wednesdayig

a protest turned violent there ahead of a planned appearance of breitbart. that event also was cancelled. a rare move by senate republicans to advance betsy devos' nomination. mitch mcconnell scheduled the vote for 6:30 this morning. lawmakers believe the early vote will stop an attempt from democrat to delay her nomination with a filibuster. with today's vote republicans have a chance to confirm devos by early next week. some of the biggest names in business have their first chance to speak with president trump today. leaders from tesla, general motors, pepsi and walmart will take part in trump's first economic advisory group meeting. uber's ceo quit the group yesterday after facing criticism from customers and employees. the president also taking a tougher stance with israel and iran. the white house is

you hop in your car today. mexican drug lord el chapo guzman will answer to a new york courtroom today. if convicted he may stend spend the rest of his life in prison. he was extradited to the u.s. on the condition prosecutors would not seek the death penalty. he has pled not guilty to drug manufacturing and distribution charges over the last 25 years. flags are flying at half staff today to honor a corrections officer who died. we told you about the hostage situation yesterday when it was all over, sergeant floyd was dead. he worked at the delaware department of corrections for 16 years. inmates said they took four workers hostage because of problems with their treatment and with president trump. there is a vigil for floyd tonight in delaware in the same town where this happened. the green belt police department needs help finding this 91-year-old man, willie

underway and a massive police presence outside of the museum. the louvre is one of the most visited tourist sites in europe and it's right now basically shut down. >> officials say they have anti terrorism prosecutors working on this investigation, but it's not confirmed what the suspect's motive was at this point. you may see it on your way in to work this morning. >> we're talking about a trash and recycling center in fairfax county consumed by flames. it's keeping crews very busy. megan mcgrath is live on the scene with the latest. >> reporter: yeah, we could actually see the smoke this morning off of i-95 as we were making our way to the area and you can see behind me here, still smoldering this morning and that's probably going to be the case for a couple of days. that's what we're being told. they take care of 3,000 tons of crash a day here at this facility and la n

on the fire just because it's inside this structure. and of course, they can't send firefighters in. they've got to try to put this out from the outside. back to you guys. >> all right. thank you. we're also following breaking news in prince george's county where a man's body was found at a bus stop this morning. police say the man was lying on the sidewalk near the intersection of 450 and whitfield chapel road in lanham. police say the man died but they did not find any trauma to his body so his death is under investigation now. as we learn more we'll update you here and in the nbc washington app. >> dozens of prince george's county police officers are accusing the department of discrimination and unfair discipline. more than 70 minority officers signed on to a complaint with the department of justice. they're also talking to the county branch of the naacp. it's just unfair

just a few moments ago we were told we had an issue here a train that had reports of smoke underneath it. the passengers were taken off that train and they were put on to other cars. at that point though, the train that had the smoke was taken offline. there is still a very heavy smell of smoke, but service has resumed here going in both directions. at this point metro telling us that service is now ramping up, that the issue has been resolved. no reports of any injuries down there and of course, service was disrupted but is no longer at this point and should be back up and running. back in to you. more breaking news this time out of paris, france. >> a shooting at one of the most popular tourist destinations in europe. we're live with details. >> the lockdown there has been lifted. that's the new information just coming in to the live desk on the developing situation that's happening at the louvre in paris, france. of course, a famous muse

it's been smoldering throughout the morning here. you can still see some of those flames. another live look now from the ground here. crews on scene tell us that at one point there were three stories of debris on fire and they're still having a hard time getting to the seat of that blaze, if you will. you can see how intense the flames were late into the night last night. we're told this fire could take days to be fully extinguished. >> today a trial date could be set for the man accused in the brutal family murder that rocked the district. he's charged with killing the family and their housekeeper back in 2015. a pizza crust left behind actually led police to him. hundreds of swabs were tested for dna. five matched him. the government also says they have other items that connect him, but they're not dna related. the defense says they need more time to test those items before a trial date can be set. he has pled not guilty to 20 felony charges. right now senate republicans are using a
