time to look at the headlines we're following. the white house says it will fight a judge's ruling blocking the donald trump travel ban. the judge in seattle placed a hold on the executive order that barred immigrants from seven predominately muslim countries. an emergency stay will be filed against the outrageous ruling. earlier on friday, president trump imposed sanctions on iran. the move follows a ballistic missile test on tehran. after the president's national security vice adviser warned irs on notice. people in chapel hill, north carolina is facing a water crisis. water is rushed after a water main break and chemical treatment problem shutdown the area water system. officials say normal water service may not be restored until tomorrow which could keep the university, restaurants and

will need them. tom kierein is joining us with what the forecast is looking like for today and this weekend. >> good morning. at least we have the sunshine. that's great after a few cloudy days. the sun is nice and bright as we start off this saturday morning. live view from the storm team 4 tower camera. and all around the region, temperatures are still subfreezing. we're in the 20s at reagan national now at 27 degrees. hour-by-hour temperature here over the next several hours will stay below freezing. but then get above freezing by noontime. hitting the upper 30s near 40 by mid-afternoon. look at the warming trend for the week ahead in a few minutes. >> tom, thank you. well, this has dominated news headlines and social media feeds for more than a week now. continued toog it this morning. donald trump's executive order on immigration. >> and just a few moments ago the president turned to twitter to say, quote, when a country is no longer able to say who can and who cannot come in and out especially for reasons of safety and security, big

he then went on to say, quote, interesting that certain middle senior countries agree with the ban. they know people allowed in it's death and destruction. the last tweet referred to the seattle judge who filed the restraining order yesterday saying, quote, the opinion of this so-called judge which essentially takes law enforcement away from our country is ridiculous and will be overturned. and all of this of course very complex to say the least. >> complex, confusing for some of us. not for pete williams. he's here to clear this up. as we look at what the seattle judge has put out, this filing a temporary restraining order, what exactly is this judge saying? what are the implications here? >> the judge is saying the people who ask for this ban, the states of washington and minnesota, have a good case that the status should be preserved by putting the executive order on hold while he works out whether it'sco

is what difference does this make. what's the emd effect of the ban. if before the ban people who wanted to come from these countries, if they had valid e visas they couldn't come because of the ban. and that the visas were no longer valid. they had been rescinded. so the question this morning is what happens? do people that had those visas now have to go back and get them all over again? or do they become legal again? and we think we have the answer. it comes not from the government which still hasn't answered this question, but from the airline industry. in a statement from the international air transport association to its member airlines. it's from its legal office that said there was a conference call with kcustoms and border protection. all travelers who were eligible to come to the u.s. before the executive order went into

will now be to travel in keeping with the law that existed before the executive order. a person said on this conference call according to the statement, it's business as usual in terms of entering into the u.s. it's as if the executive order never existed. and here's the key sentence. the cbp official said in keeping with the seattle judge's order, the state department has rescinded its revocation of sri sas. that's a double negative but it says anybody who had a visa before the order, it's valid again. you can fly again nap is what the airline industry is being told by its representatives talking to the government. we're still waiting to hear from cbp and the state department about whether or not this is the rule. in the meantime, the government has said it will seek a stay of this judge's order. have to go to the ninth circuit court of appeals and get the order put on hold. but that hasn't happened yet. >> and is there a time frame? if somebody's on a plane right now hd

will they be able to get in? >> according to the airline industry, yes, they will. we've heard nothing to the contrary from the government. they say their still trying to figure out the legal effects of the ruling. interestingly, the white house statement that came out said that the white house will issue or issue a stay, i think is what they said. >> emergency stay. >> guess what. the white house doesn't issue stays. courts issue stays. i think they meant they will seek a stay. but it shows you the sort of scrambling to try to get their heads around this judge's order. >> do we know if there's a timeline or how soon the white house could issue this emergency stay. >> to be clear, the white house can't stay anything. only a court can. >> sure. >> it can seek a stay. i'm sure they'll try to do it this weekend whether the ninth circuit will be open and entertain i wa entertain it, i don't know. but to try to get a three-judge panel from the court of appeals, that's a

but i would say one other thing. there's an on/off switch that the courts hold on this thing. this thing is going to be toggled back and forth because this is one of nine lawsuits that have been filed in court and more are coming. it's going to be awhile. there might be a lot of confuse that goes on for the next couple of weeks. >> possible that eventually could get to the supreme court. >> probably will, yes. >> and according to the airlines, we're now in this pre-executive order. >> it's as if we're back to business, back to nar mall. >> all right. we'll see how long normal will last. back here on a saturday. thank you for joining us, pete. all right. president trump and first lady are waking up in palm beach, florida. they arrived yesterday afternoon taking a few minutes to greet the press before driving to their mar-a-lago estate. the president plans on speaking via phone today with italian prime minister and the ukraine president. following those meetings, the first couple will attend the 60th annual red cross gala in mar-a-lago.

raid looking for accomplices in that attack outside the louvre in paris. matt bradley has the latest from london. >> reporter: french police raiding locations around paris. an ongoing investigation after a terror attack at perhaps the world's most famous museum. it was around 10:00 a.m. inside the louvre. police say this 29-year-old suspect attacked four soldiers with a machete in each hand. shouting god is great in arabic. there were shots, this witness said. it was scary. i saw people falling. soldiers shot the attacker four times. he lived. the soldier suffered minimal injuries. 1200 people were inside the museum. some huddled on the floor. police say the suspect arrived from dubai last week on a tourist visa. these are students from the university of georgia. they were looking for the

right now it is still subfreezing. it is in the 20s to teens here as we approach 9:00 in the morning. it's in the upper 20s across the bay. and now beginning to climb in the low 20s. nothing on storm team 4 radar. we're all clear. no snow anywhere around. temperatures by 10:00 should be around 30 degrees. should be near 40, though, by 2:00 p.m. hovering near 40 until around 6:00 p.m. it's a chilly and dry afternoon. temperatures to the mid-30s by 10:00 p.m. then by dawn tomorrow, we'll be down to near 30 degrees starting off sunday morning. a lot of clouds around tomorrow and temperatures climbing warmer into the upper 40s to near 50 degrees. about 10 degrees warmer tomorrow afternoon. if you have plans, tomorrow may be the better day to do a hike or a bike ride. then on monday back to the afternoon highs in the low 50s. much milder, the record high on

i have your first 4 traffic. and a look at the rails. big deal on metro. especially on a fairly big weekend here for a lot of folks. silver blue and orange lines, six stations closed there. west shut down, mcpherson square, smithsonian, triangle, capitol south as well. fewer people use the rails on super bowl weekend. that's why they've decided to do this. still going to be hard for a lot of folks. free buses will replace orange, blue, and silver lines. now, take yellow line and transfer to g
