right now on news4 this week, cross country trip. the big company moving from california to the d.c. suburbs. major change after decades of debate, the boy scouts change their tune on transgender members. and teacher of the year, she's been a source of inspiration for students. we'll tell you why this educator almost didn't become a teacher at all. welcome to news4 this week. hi, everyone, i'm chris lawrence. we're going to start with a big plan by nestle that's expected to bring more than 700 jobs to virginia. they've announced plans to move its corporate headquarters from california to arlington. the move is expected to happen in september and we look at how surrounding businesses are

soon be nestle's u.s. headquarte headquarters, 16 floors up from inside the hyatt sen trick, rebranded a few weeks ago into a trend ya boutique hotel. one of the many places willing to host nestle's employees. if you look around, you can't miss the construction. from the old colony house slated to be a hotel to the massive central place opening spring of next year. upgrades happening all over. >> we're midway throw our transition from a commercial district to a mixed use vibrant neighborhood. that's really where we're going. >> reporter: whelping to make the transition, filling commercial space space. it sat empty for three and a half years. nestle will become its first major tenant. >> they'll invest $38.5 million and create 750 new

jobs here. >> reporter: but nestle's president tells me he hopes many of their employees currently working at the headquarters in glendale, california will make the move east. >> they're boeing to spend a lot of time with them next week educating them on what this great place have to offer. >> reporter: and nestle is stressing tonight they're much more than chocolate owning everything from ger ber. the company will get combined grants from the commonwealth and the county and arlington county is going to help relocating with the employees from the west coast. this week the boy scouts of america decided to allow transgender kids to join their ranks. the century old organization will base enrollment on the gender list odden the ed on

rather than the birth certificate. >> reporter: the scouts gender identity policy changes the result of a discrimination lawsuit by a family in new jersey. he was expelled from the cub scouts one month after they discovered he was born a girl. >> i want transgenders to be accepted. people should accept them and give them compassion and love. >> the boy scouts of america posted this message on their website. >> we'll accept application based on the gender identity provide on an individual's application. we'll continue to work with families to find units that are the best fit for their children. >> dillon quit. now it's too late for him. he's a hig

museum of african-american history. time passes to visit the museum in may became available this week and there were reports of people having to fight through a ton of online traffic to register. all of the time passes through the month of april are sold out. limited numbers of same-day passes will be available online every day starting at 6:30 a.m. the work is picking up on one of ur most traveled bridges. this week scaffolding went up on the key bridge as construction crews work to patch up its concrete surface. the bridge isn't in any danger of failing. it's just 100 years old and needs cosmetic repairs. you'll see barges coming in to get to the hard to reach concrete cracks. there will be lane closures in the fall. are you exhausted at work? turns out you're not alone. and in some professions that burn jout can be

in nez for your health, a lot of us are all too familiar with the term burnout. no one is immune to it, least of all people who work in high pressure jobs like medicine. we explain how this could be a bad thing for your health. >> this controls breathing, pretty much their blood pressure and heart rate. >> she's describing her job as an anesthesiologist at med star georgetown hospital. >> you worry about it the whole time from beginning to end. it's a very stressful and also isolated profession. >> i think there's always been somewhere people were susceptible to burnout in the

the mayo clinic put physician burnout at 54%, concluding that burnout and satisfaction with work-life balance in u.s. physicians worsened from 2011 to 2014. more than half of u.s. physicians are experiencing a professional burnout. >> i didn't realize it at the time but indeed i was. >> what were you symptoms? >> emotional exhaustion to the point that if something doesn't right i would easily cry or get upset. of course not in front of anymore because you've got to be tough and tough it out. >> i think the belief that you come to medicine to give care, not to need care for yourself is very very deeply rooted in the profession. >> but those attitudes appear to be changing both for the sake of the health of doctors and their

>> there actually is growing evidence that the problem of burnout among physicians has a negative impact on patient care. >> nancy runs the mind body medicine program at georgetown university school of medicine. it was created 15 years ago and focuses on mindfulness and meditation. it's available for medical students and faculty. >> the most important parts of this program is to create a safe place, a nonjudgmental place where people can come together and share. >> mind body medicine is a 12-week program where you spend two hours each week with a group of the same people and two faculty facilitators. and the program starts out with everyone going around in a circle and checking in. >> sharing, meditation and activities aimed at mindfulness are all part of t

she went through it and now she's a cofacilitator in the program. >> i think some of the most valuable things that come out of the program, at least for me, is that you get so compassionate, you get compassi compassionate yourself and all of the members who are in your group. >> in fact, both mind and body, balance and awareness are a goods thing for everyone, and more medical programs are starting to recognize that. there there's been a lot of news about russian lately. but recently we saw a different side of the country at the russian embassy right here in washington. barbara harrison was there to see how they're supporting a worthy cause. >> reporter: they're rehearsing for the grand ball, young people being tutored on how to bow and courtesy are russian americans.

february is black history month and there's a new exhibit in our area highlighting the contributions of african-americans in car racing. the national museum of american history unveiled the exhibit this week. leonard miller is the first african-american race team owner to compete in the indy race. miller don

memorabilia to the smithsonian. he's hoping his story will inspire and teach local black racers. a local brother and sister barely survived a fire nearly six decades ago. this week they finally got to thank their hero in person. kristen wright was there for the emotional reunion. [ applause ] >> reporter: 58 years is a long time to wait for a hug and to say thank you. >> i've always told firefighters as i've met them throughout my lifetime that i owe my life to a firefig firefight. >> stew newman is the firefighter who saved michael hart and his sister linda. >> i remember smelling the smoke. >> 1959, hyattsville, michael and linda were 2 and 3 years
