it will be ferociously gusty today. if you're traveling up the northeast corridor today, think twice about that. philadelphia could get 8 inches of snow. could be a foot or more in new york city and near boston could see 18 inches of snow. for now, it's all rain here across the area. keep a close eye on it. let's go outside to my colleague, sheena parveen, who is outside. >> good morning, chuck, yes. i'm right outside the station here and we are looking at rain right now.the we're looking at rain because look at these temperatures. 46 degrees in the district. i will say, though, temperatures have been dropping over the past couple of hours. frederick, 32. leesburg, 39. that's where we're seeing the rain/snow line move. dulles, 44. here is the thing. before all this precip gets out

district is not dropping to freezing. anything falling, which will mostly be rain, will be melting. but, again, to change over to snow, it's going to be tough before this morning commute is over. coming.we'll take a closer look at the temperature trend as we go through the day and those gusty winds that's all coming up. good morning, melissa. >> good morning. taking a look right now at 66 as you're headed in from fairfax county to the beltway, you're on time. no worries. you can see the virtual rain falling. we have quite a bit of rain falling across the area here this morning. it is going to be kind of a wet mess, almost no matter where you are. that is what sheena and chuck have been telling us today. 95 northbound/southbound at prince william parkway, you can see the sheen on the road. all the green in the background is our radar showing that it is falling across the area. eun. our team coverage continues in n

>> news 4's justin finch is in leesburg. are you seeing that rain/snow line there? >> yeah. i don't think it's quite cold enough for that. we're seeing more steady rain here. however, temperatures have fallen since we last spoke at about 4:00 this morning. take a look at more or less downtown leesburg. more wet roads out here. the lights reflecting in the puddles out here. but no signs of the slishy stuff just yet. we have seen those d.o.t. crews out there. as of right now, it just has not. we can tell you more cars are making their way out on to the roads. they will want to be careful, however. i would almost venture to guess the time to get moving might be now before all that slishy stuff starts coming down. back in to you guys in the studio. >> we also want to head t

>> megan mcgrath joins us this morning. maybe a few snow flurries passing by? >> yeah. it's kinds of a rain/snow mix here. within the last half hour, we have seen it kind of change more back over the rain than snow. a half hour ago, we were seeing more larger flakes and now it's kind of mixing in here. bottom line is, we are above freezing. ground temperatures are warm. even though we are seeing the snow mixing in with the rain, none of it is sticking. really, we're not seeing any impact of the snow. it is wet out there so, of course, whenever we have a wet rush hour, it can be tricky. so keep that in mind. but as for the snow, not a big impact here. did talk to a gentleman a little while ago who drove in from pen pep. he said this is a wild weather

market. police say he wasn't wearing a seat belt. one of the maintenance workers was hurt, but we're told he should be okay. montgomery county council leaders will be meeting today to discuss paid family and medical leave. they'll be reviewing findings of an empty study. according to the county's website, full time employees are entitled to use up to 80 hours of paid leave per year. it's now time to turn our attention back to storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell as we find out what is happening with this rain. we see megan and frederick are seeing somehow know. what's going on? >> i'm blaming sheena. as a florida girl, i don't think she loves snow the way a new englander like myself does. >> well, you know. >> so i'm blaming sheena for all the warm air that's killing our storm chances. we could see accumulation on grassy areas around the city.

said the county will continue to provide services to everybody in the county, regardless of their immigration status. the city of annapolis is looking for a new police chief. wbal, our sister station in baltimore is reporting the mayor fired the current chief earlier this week. in a statement, the mayor said fighting crime is the top priority. he also said the change is about creating a new direction for the police department, not about the person. as the newly elected mayor takes over in fairfax city, the city's former lead ser preparing for a plea. scott silverthorn is expected to take a plea on march 13th. he resigned last year after police arrested him on a sex for drugs scheme. silverthorn gave an undercover detective two grams of methamphetamine pp outside of a hotel. he will likely be sentenced in april or may. there is a battle brewing between the congr

but check out her skills, though. she's really good. al ali goes back home tomorrow. her trip here was part of hockey for everyone month. that is a thing, hockey is for everyone month. >> i am so happy for her. she had such a great time. >> and so nice for the caps to do that, too wab to host her. so you were outside. still pretty warm, right? >> it is. we're well above freezing. i mean we're still near 50 degrees. so it's raining, obviously, where we are. but farther north when you get closer to the maryland/pennsylvania border, that's where you start to see the snow. the snow is extending through philadelphia. the rain/snow line is what we'ring watching very closely. we have snow falling through parts of frederick karld and maryland and points north. that rain/snow line now moving into philadelphia. currently, we're still seeing temperatures above freezing, unless you have in

that's where we see temperatures at freezing. the snow is falling and as you get north of gaithersburg, that's where we see that transition from rain to snow. there you see it a little farther up to the north and continuing into pennsylvania. leesburg, the rain/snow line moving just to the south. snow falling now in leesburg. but if you look closer to most of montgomery countying moving into the district, that's still rain. even farther south, this is all still rain. but there is a back edge to this. so i think in the next couple of hours here, we'll start to see things dry out. during the morning commute, we'll see a lot of this taper off. in the district, 46 degrees. we are getting colder, but we're not going to be cold enough to see that snow falling and sticking. frederick is the only spot at phrasing right now. even some of the higher elevations are coming in in the missed 30s. as we go through the day today, future weather, 6:00 a.m., trying to move the rain/snow line south of the district. i don't see that happening. but when it all comes to an end, 7:00, 8:00 in the

flurries this afternoon. it gets colder overnight. areas north of the district could see icy spots developing. that will be in the forecast. then we go into your friday. we're dry, but we're colder. as far as what you can expect, maybe 1 to 3 slushy inches. around the north and south, mainly rain. ten-day forecast after we see this morning mess move through, we're colder tomorrow. the weekend, not looking too bad. let's take a look at the roadways with melissa mollet. >> good morning. southbound 197, trying to get more information. sounds like we have police on scene trying to get things out of the way. missouri avenue northwest at third street, crash reported there, as well. remember b when you see all of the green roads, that is good, but the green in the distance, also, all that stuff that looks like slime, that means we have rein falling across
