>> not happening today. we're doing pretty well in our area as far as any delays and closings might go. >> we're check in with our crews spreading across our area. >> we need to start with our storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell and sheena parveen. what's the latest, guys? >> our colleague, amelia draper, put out a tweet, kids, do your homework. and i immediately retweeted that and said you betcha, that is good, sage advice this morning. current temperatures are on the cold side, but as you can tell, they are not below freezing until you get all the way to frederick county. that's about the only spot that's below freezing. around washington, it's clearly all rain right now. later today, these are the look at 5:00 temperatures this afternoon. so as you're getting ready, it may not be that cold now, but look at this. temperatures falling back down to at or below freezing. by 5:00 today. not to mention the falling and plummeting temperatures. we could have some passing snow flurries or snow showers this afternoon. no big impact from that.

afternoon. so be prepared for a ferociously windy and way colder day today. and then for tomorrow, a start out temperatures, teens and 20s tomorrow morning. so any lingering moisture on the roads, we could have iciness issues tomorrow morning. for more on the problems we're facing right now, let's go over to my colleague, sheena parveen. >> good morning, chuck. we're looking at the radar very closely this morning because that rain/snow line, that's what we are watching as it slowly makes its way to the south. what we are seeing on radar currently, the rain/snow line moving through baltimore. it's approaching the district. but the thing here is that temperatures are still well above freezing. so even if we see this rain/snow line move through the district before it's all over because there is a pretty close back edge to this, it would be melting on the roadway. so at least that's good news. up near frederick, the temperatures is at freezing and snow is falling. that is one area we're watching very closely around 270ea

>> yeah. it kind of went back and forth. it started up as straight out rain for a while. then it went to snow. then smaller flakes with rain. now as you can see, we are back to larger flakes. it's coming down. talking to chuck, he says it's going to last a little while longer until about 6:30, 7:00. chuck, the temperature just alg while ago, it's 33 degrees here in frederick. still above freezing. we're not seeing anything stick, not even to the grass. we are just seeing wet pavement out there. but yesterday we were in the 70s. it's just this wild weather pattern. i've been talking to drivers this morning. if you live in maryland, they say, you know, they know this sort of thing can happen. >> i remember other februarys in the mid 80s. if you've been around here long enough, you get used to the changeability. wacky maryland weather? >> ye

>> and so the snow is still continuing to fall here in frederick, but, really, we are not seeing any problems out there on the road. back to you guys. >> that's a good thing, maegan. we are working for you on the road this morning. >> justin finch is live in leesburg for us. justin, we know it's still pretty warm out there. what are you seeing? >> eun, good morning. at first we weren't so sure it what going to happen. then about 4:35 or so, the rain started turn thing to flakes. you can see the winds blowing, the flakes are falling. i want to show you the place we saw just a few moments ago, some video here. these are fatter flakes that were falling, a lot wetter, a lot heavier. luckily, the ground is still warm out here. we are just above freezing, about 37 degrees or so. so it's falling on the ground and turning right to water. and we have those slick and wet roads we have spleen throughout the morning here along leesburg pike. so as you are driving out here

see a lot of wet roads out here. you are going to see lots of d.o.t. crews ready to come out here and service these roads as needed. we know what happens perhaps as the morning stretches on, this will become more of a slushy event and that will impact your morning commute. but as of right now, we are still seeing these wet roads. however, the snowflakes are now falling. back in to you in the studio. >> justin finch live in leesburg for us, thank you. fighting the storm is all about the timing. temperatures have stayed mostly above freezing. road crews have delayed pretreating the roads. >> vdot says they couldn't pretreat the roads for this storm since the rain would have washed it all away. officials say if you can, wait until after 9:00 a.m. to get on the roads. >> it is a different story to the our north where they are preparing for at least two feet of snow, two feet. philadelphia and boston have declared a snow emergency for today. new york city is under a winter storm warning until noon. students in new york, boston, and p

home so that she can move back in. new images detectives want you to see in connection to a murder in charles county. the sheriff's office there is looking for the woman in these pictures. she's being called a person of interest right now. investigators believe she may have some information about mikita gray's death. gray was killed last outside a waldorf liquor store. there are arrest warrants out right now for two men. there's a $1,000 reward for information in this case. 5:07. today, we may find out whether fairfax county the police will final le release the name of the officer involved in a deadly shooting. that officer was granted a temporary restraining order monday preventing his name from being released. a hearing is scheduled today in federal court in alexandria to determine whether the order should continue. the officer shot and killed mohammed duzai last month after he approached officers with a

knife. he's accused of shooting his two brothers, hold ago roommate hostage and set ago town house on fire. the aclu of virginia says the restraining order goes against the the public's right to know. activists are head to go richmond today to protest a vote to defund planned parenthood. the measure passed the house of delegates bay party line vote of 60-33. now that bill goes to the state senate to a committee there. planned parenthood says the loss of funding would significantly undermine services at its clinics across the state. a handful of democratic senators will leave the capital today to leave the white house to have lunch with president trump. it could be an attempt to woo them. today, senator jeff session sess expecteded to be sworn in as attorney general. sessions was confirmed by the senate last night by a vote of 52-47. president trump immediately took to te

pushes in, meteorologist sheena parveen tracking the weather from the storm team 4 weather deck. good morning, sheena. >> good morning, guys. the winds are picking up out here, i will tell you. temperatures have dropped in about an hour. we're looking currently at temperatures in the low to mid 40s. but most of the area sitting above freezing. the one thing we're watching closely is the rain/snow line. on radar, there you see it just to the north of the district. but through much of loudoun county, we've seen that rain/snow line move to the south. in frederick, we are seeing the temperatures at freezing. most of this melting on the roadways. i don't think we'll be seeing much sticking especially since we were unseasonably warm yesterday. if we zoom in on that rain/snow line, we are still seeing light rain, but flurries being reported at dulles. it's going to continue pushing into the south. but if you look off to the west near warrington, there is a back into all of this. it's a race between that

you're prepared. >> adam tuft is live at dulles international airport with a look at what is happening there. adam, good morning. >> good morning, eun. what a difference a day makes. yesterday, short sleeves. o i was out yesterday. take a look out here t flags at dulles. the wind and the cold, really a big issue this morning. that's what we're dealing with. the roads, mainly fine. but hey, this system is having a huge impact on places like philadelphia, new york, boston. we are talking about big time flight cancellations from our three local airports. at reagan national, there is almost a hundred flight cancellations this morning to those locations at bwi, about 30 here at dulles, another 20. so you're definitely going to want to check ahead if you are going to any of those places. today, it is going to be a tough travel day up and down the northeast corner as we deal with this weather impact right now. here at dulles, just wet.

man's leg, fire erupted from the floorboard. the three say the rescue does not make them heros. they say they were just doing their jobs. to this developing story out of sarasota, florida, where eight performers in the named wolinda family were performing a pyramid act yesterday when they lost their balance. we were about halfway out and that's when it happened. >> do you know what caused the fall? >> there's no way. there's no way to know. it's balance. >> it clearly was balance. >> two performers were in critical condition after the person on top fell nearly 40 feet. three others were injured, as well. the best known wolinda, nick, as you saw there is okay. right now, officials are unveiling the olympic torch design at a ceremony in south korea. today, if you've heard about tickets going on sale, we just want to let you know, not so fast. tickets are only going on sale for south

over national airport. not any snow here at national. but there are snow flaim flakes flying out towards dulles airport and that cooling and snow flurrying trend will continue for the next little bit. look at the wind, though. 42 degrees in washington now. but the winds are already northwest averaging 30 miles per hour. those winds could gust over 50 miles per hour today. it is going to be a hold on to your hats and hair pieces kind of a day. temperatures are plummeting. we're already down to freezing in frederick, 34 at gaithersburg, 36 at dulles. and you can get snow in the mid 30s. you just can't get it to stick to the roads. so this is very good news for travelers, the first of any school delays. frederick county, maryland, on a two-hour delay. our nbc washington app will have the latest school closings as well as that scroll there on the bottom of your screen. here is the future feels like factors. windchills back in the teens and 20s by 5:00 when you're coming back from workan

there and a is a big change in the weather. a lot of times people say oh, b there's a big change in the forecast. no, no, the forecast has not changed. we've been traumaticing this huge, plummeting temperatures over the last couple of days. as advertised, it's the fight between how fast we can get the warm air out and the cold air in that has been the real challenge in all this. and it looks like the warm air is winning. >> the rain/snow line is a big thing. 42 in the district. 36 at dulles. 32 frederick. that is where we've been seeing snow falling across the area. let's take a look at the radar now. this is what we're watching as far as that rain/snow line is concerned. this is the important part as far as the morning commute goes, too. the snow showing in white. near frederick, that is where we're seeing snow falling, fairley light snow. that rain/snow line getting closer to the district. flurried already at

welcome back. it is 5:39. the temperatures have dropped overnight and now we are starting to see some snow. megan mcgrath has been bringing us live reports all morning. cry eggs are spread out across the area to show you what it's like near their home. 5:40, new this morning, a story you've been talking a lot about this morning on the nbc washington appear. a cop vikted man was reportedly captured. witnesses spotted him walking near the d.c. superior court. a laurel coach is facing charges after police say he sexually assaulted a family members and that person's friend. 35-year-old warner murphy is charged with second degree rape and other sex assault offenses. laurel police say the 18-year-old family member told police e

>> here in new york city, the snow starts falling a few hours ago and it's just start to go pick up in intensity. here is the thing. this is a quick hitter. we are going to get about 8 to 12 inches of snow in b a matter of about 12 hours. so it's going to come down and it's going to be blinding. they canceled schools here in new york, only the sixth time in seven years. but we need the snow. anywhere from new york to philly up to boston, we're 3, 6, 9 inches below average here. so this sa welcome snow because we have been in a snow drought. there are blizzard warnings out on long island. so this is going to be a significant snow. it's going to be the biggest snow of the season, but it's going to be a quick one. here in new york, all is going to be out by the time we head to that 4:00 hour. so things will be improving, eun and aaron. but it's going to be a rough several hours had here abdomen at least in the morning. >> stephanie looks prepared. she's ready to go. 5:48 right w.

now, late tonight and very early tomorrow, we are looking at temperatures in the 20s. so areas mostly north of the district that see any type of slushiness which we could be seeing right now especially near frederick, those areas are under the risk of a refreeze. but here is a look at the radar currently. before you head out, we have snowfall near leesburg up through philadelphia. frederick, seeing the snow falling. that's going to be coming to an end pretty soon here, tearily light snow. the good news is a lot of this is melting on the roadways. bethesda and is in the district, we're seeing a mix of light rain. rain, though, further to the south. but you can see it now start to go break apart. so it's fairley light. and the bulk of this moisture has moved off to our east. so we're going to see things improve, you could say, as we go through the morning commute. temperaturewise, the only place at freeze sg frederick. 32 degrees in the district, well above freezing at 42. when you see the snow falli
