frederick, maryland, creating some slippery roads. >> justin finch has a live look of his drive through loudoun county right now. we're going to check in with him to see what he is finding right now. >> if you are heading out this morning, this might be a shock to your system. >> temperatures are dropping. but first, we have school delays to tell you about. >> frederick county maryland, washington county, allegheny county and howard county schools are all starting two hours late today. >> we begin with chuck and sheena. >> it's a bit of a wet snow combo up there across maryland. it's pretty much been all rain drops around town, though. >>

>> absolutely. after two record highs n 70s in a row, we're quickly switching back from spring to winter around here. and proof in the contrast in the air masses here, thunderstorms. thunder and lightning off the jersey coast down through rehoboth beach. that is springtime getting shoved out to sea. on the back side of it there, we have quite a bit of wet snow coming into the area. that yellow line i've drawn that, that's essentially the rain/snow line. current temperatures, mostly above freezing. cold enough to get some snow, but generally above freezing and that means the troubles on the roadways will be extremely limited. looking forward into the day, here is sheena. >> yeah, chuck, and we are talking about the temperatures very closely. we have seeing snow falling through part of the area, but temperatures still above freezing. so by 7:00 a.m., here is your planner for today. rain and wet snow still through part of the area. a lot of it is start to go come to an

and by the afternoon, temperatures continue to go drop and snow flurries moving around. now, i want to show you this because take a look at what our temperatures are going to do as we go through this afternoon and late tonight. those are 20 degree temperatures in the forecast. and that could be refreezing what we're seeing falling north of the district. some of that wet snow. so we will be watching early for icy spots. speaking of wet roads this morning, let's check in with melissa. >> hi. wet roads all over the lace this morning. take a look right now. you can see 95 lorton road. everything is moving. we have that nice sheen on the roadway. some of of the cameras this morning have those drops of waters, making it difficult to see. great seneca highway at cloper road, still have a crash reported there. overall, northbound and southbound there on 270, really not so bad. eastbound missouri avenue in northwest before third street still have the right lane, the only thing getting by that crash. all of these colors, radar showing th

the green there is rain. eun. thank you, melissa. 6:03. we want to check back on the roads in northern virginia. >> justin finch is live for us in leesburg. how is it looking out there? >> we're seeing more cars on the road right now, a lot more brake lights picking up in front of us. the rain and heavy snow conditions we saw some hoursing ago now have lightened up quite a bit. right now what we're seeing is a light rainfall with flakes falling in between every now and then. that temperature right now is hovering with at about 35 degrees or so. too warm for that snow earlier to have stuck on the ground here. so as you are driving in this area, you are going to see some wet spots, but not any big trouble. that's only for drivers. back over to you guys in the studio. >> thank you for that. we now continue our live team coverage in maryland. >> that is where megan mcgrath has been hanging out and talking to drivers out there. what are they

mess? you know, it's not too bad. it's kind of a strange snow. it's rain and the snow mixes in. you can see right now we've got big flakes. really it's not affecting the roads much. enter intersection of the light, that's 355. we are seeing wet conditions on the roadway. we've got about 33 degrees here. and it's fallen a little bit since we got here. it was 38, 39 when we first got here, but it has fallen. but still above freezing, especially those ground temperatures. so, really, anything that's falling once it hits the ground, it's just melt b. it's not even sticking to the grass. but a little strange out here. we've seen on the last couple of days, spring-like temperatures and then now we're seeing winter-like temperatures. and we've been talking to folks all morning long and they say it's just really odd. >> that was the best. >> it's weird. yesterday you had your windows open, shorts on. today, look at this mess.

to have any major problems out here on the roads in frederick county. as i said, just wet pavement. however, the school system did delay for two hours just as a precaution so the kiddos get to sleep in a little bit longer in frederick county. back to you guys. 6:05 right now. live images at this hour from northern pennsylvania where the snow is coming down still, even with that blanket on the ground. this is the camel back mountain area. we did see a big snowplow driving around this area, but it wasn't really accomplishing much, as you might imagine. snow is falling all over the northeast and could dump as much as two feet in philly and boston. >> we're not seeing a lot of impact in our area yet. >> but millions are being impacted by the winter storm to our north. check out this 55-car pileup near boston. police say a 63-year-old who was hit by a car was

helping his son who was stuck on an icy road there. they're expecting close to a foot of snow today. today students in new york city have a day off. all the public schools are closed as the city gets ready for up to two feet of snow. winter storm warning is in effect until noon today. philly and boston have declared snow emergencies for today, too. >> those emergencies have cost airlines to cancel thousands of flights to the northeast. >> erika gonzalez at the live desk with a look at how this is going to affect you. >> please check your airline, check your app and see if things are how you thought they would be. the timing of this storm could be affecting your flight this morning. take a look at the misery map from flightaware.com. we're seeing most delays and cancellations happening to the north of us. right now, reagan national airport is almost reporting some 100 cancellations just about. let's look at bwi marshall, rorth 39 cance

6:11 your time right now. i-270 at montrose road, you don't see a lot of snow, but there are wet roads. >> for sure. right now, it's been too warm to have any snow in our area. let's check in with sheena parveen to find out what the weather is doing right now. >> good morning, ean and aaron. we have light rain mixed in with some flurries, but the issue of sticking is not an issue because temperatures are well above freezing through most of the area. you see the snow, it continues into philly and those are the areas expecting

slushy snow, very wet snow. dusting a little bit of light snow through the district, as well. as you get farther south, a lot of this is breaking up. light rain with flurries mixing in. 32 in frederick. only spot really at freezing, 39 degrees in the district. as we go through the morning, the commute, really just wet roads and colder later on tonight. speaking of those wet roads, let's take a look at this them. good morning, meissa. >> we had light snow falling and the roads could be slick in spots. so careful up through that area because of what's falling there right now. most of the other roads are simply wet here this morning. taking a look at travel times, 270 is just fine. no problems top of the beltway outer loop and inner loop. 66 inbound, looking very normal. same thing, 95 northbound quantityco to the beltway been listen to wtop 103.5 fm when you hop in your car. rig

the on conditions near leesburg. news 4's justin finch has been working for you on the roads all morning long. you can see what looks like a fairley dry image here coming from the leesburg area as he's rournded some of the ramps in that area. rain is still falling, of course, but no snow to contend with in leesburg at this hour. we'll check back in with justin in just a bit. >> and our team coverage begins now. >> adam tuss has a look at flight cancellations. >> this is more of a kind of hold on to your hat day out here right now. it is super windy, not so much in the form of precipitation right now, but take a look at the flags out here at dulles international. we are talking about a swift, swift wind right now. so this is going to be something that you're going to have to contend with right now. mainly, the impacts are to airports in the northeast. that is what we're dealing with. philadelphia and new york, boston, you know, places like that, we had about a hundred cancellations out of reagan national o

the long and bitter confirmation battle between attorney general jeff sessions is over. >> sessions will be voted in today. the senate voted to confirm him by a vote of 52-47. the in his farewell speech, sessions acknowledged the unprecedented backlash by democrats and thanked the president for the opportunity. >> i want to thank president donald trump. he believes in the rule of law. he believes in protecting the american people from crime and violence. he believes in a lawful system of immigration. >> house minority leader nancy pelosi tweeted, quote, we will not be disheartened. jeff sessions does not stand a chance against our team of persistent progressives. developing this morning in arizona, protesters tried to take matters into their own hands to block the deportation of a mother. the they went as far as to use their bodies to stop a van

immigration checkpoint earlier in the day. eight years ago, she was convicted of working illegally in the u.s., at least seven protesters were arrested. it's 6:16 now to this developing story out of sarasota, florida, where a circus show rehearsal weren't terribly wrong. >> eight of the performers from the named wolinda family were rehearsing a balancing act. they lost their balance. two of 24e78 are in critical condition after the person on top fell about 40 feet 2to the ground. the best known wolinda, nick, is okay. more than 100 flights into and out of philadelphia are canceled today. >> the snow is coming down in that city. weather channel meteorologist reynolds wolf is picking up our team coverage there. reynolds, good morning. >> hey, gang, it's been quite a morning here. we started things off with rain drops here in the city of brothererly love. then we switched over to sleet. for you viewers at

pellets but then occasional snowflakes. before all is said and done, it could stack up to the tune of maybe 3 to 5 inches of snowfall. some suburbs might have some less. northeast you might have been more. anyone here trying to get to new york or boston by air, good luck with that. we've had widespread cancellations. in fact, nationwide, last count was around 2,500 or so. i expect those numbers to go up. since we've been here on location, we've had a flew flights take off. .international flights, too. but since then, it's been quiet. nothing taking off. it's been the story of of what you're seeing that's been coming down, the precipitation. to give you my exact location, sure, i'm in the philadelphia area, which is home to 1.5 million people, roughly. and in the metro area, roughly 6 million people. they used that thorough fare behind me. we're talking i-95. on the other side, you see the wellsfa

and roadways for now in pretty decent shape. but get this, they were not able to go out and pretreat many of those surfaces, those bridges, the overpasses that are sosa acceptable to the i-team because with all the heavy rainfall that came down last night, why bother? you put it on the surface and heavy rain washes everything away. so now just in time for hush hour traffic, you have all these people converging on the roadways and they'll be on the streets with the plows and salt spreaders. so what a mess. a winter storm warning headache for so many people that call this region home. back to you. >> for sure, reynolds wolf from the weather channel. >> we had one of those here in january 2011. that was our commuter-geddon. they couldn't pretreat the roads and it was a quick switch over to snow and that was all she wrote. >> as everyone was heading out from work. >> that's what they're facing in philadelphia today.

driving up to i-95 today, dream about something else. that is not going to happen for you with any speed or efficiency today. right now, cloudy, mostly rain and wet snowflakes in washington. the wind is going to be the other thing that you northeast need to pay attention to today. a north wind averaging 22 miles per hour. but winds are already gusting over 30 miles per hour in many places and with time, these winds will be increasing as this area of low pressure goes off the coastline and intensifies. our winds could gust over 50 miles per hour this afternoon. so weather impacts this morning, moderate snow and wet rain -- or wet snow and rain drops through 3w8 o'clock. roads mainly just wet because we were so warm out ahead of it. for this afternoon into this evening, very, very windy. much colder. couldn't rule out a passing snow flurry or a snow shower, snow squaw later this afternoon. by early tomorrow morning, temperatures in the low 20s and single

possible for this evening into early tomorrow morning. again, all the real travel issues start around new jersey and philadelphia up towards parts of new york and new england. here is future weather carrying this chance for rain and snow quickly out of here by 8:00 in the morning. rapidly coming to an end. we'll be almost all dry by 10:00. could even see breaks of sunshine, late morning into the afternoon. there are those streamers of snow chances coming in later this afternoon. it isn't going to stay like winter. near 40 tomorrow. back up to near 60 on saturday flirt, 70 again on sunday. that means melissa mollet is going to be sitting in the backyard in shorts. >> i would love to be sitting in the backyards and shorts. 270 here at montrose road, northbound and southbound, moving just fine here this morning. but you can see a little bit of a lull there. no major problems. and it is still range through that area. seneca highway at cloper road, stillve

not particularly slippery. nothing stuck this morning, but we have wet conditions on the roadways. it is above freezing or right around freezing. the ground temperatures above freezing. so the snow we saw earlier, it just came down, was very, very pretty, did not even stick to the grass, not even in the area where we are. frederick county on a two-hour delay, just as a precaution. we've been talking to folks and they say it's been a wild ride the last couple of days. amazing what a difference a day can make. >> it's pretty unbelievable that i walked out in a t-shirt knowing full well today i would be identity here in a jack and hat and everything. it's crazy. i mean, but, you know, that's maryland for you. >> and so the snow appears to be over here in frederic

morning, you shouldn't have any problems. back to you in the studio. >> maegan, thank you. >> justin finch is driving through loudoun county for us today. what are you seeing out there? >> we saw snow this morning, rain, and now we're seeing pretty much a sprinkling of rain drops on our windshield here. what a difference a few hours makes. the rooz are barely even wet any more given what we see earlier. i want to take you to the snowy conditions that the we saw. the wind was whipping out here. the snowflakes were falling. we had what appeared to by the start of a snow event. it was too warm for those flakes to do anything but fall to the ground and melt. we did not even see a coating of this snow on the grass out here. the drivers out here are really just start to go wake up and hit the roads. they kind of missed that whole event earlier. so as of right now, we're sng

improving conditions out here in the loudoun county leesburg area which should make for a smoother commute. back out to you guys. >> justin, thank you. just a crazy scene to our north. take a look at this city in mass miss. people are trying to go up hill. one car made its way downhill, but take a look at this, hitting several cars along the way. boom. and it just keeps sliding down. this car nearly crushed a man who was trying to get up that hill. as we've been telling you all morning long, a major snowstorm is heading that way right now. there is a possibility of up to a foot of snow set to fall in the boston area today. 6:36. the house fire rescue that changed the life of one

now to our forecast, snow, rain, what where he seeing? chuck and sheena have everything with we need to know right now. >> temperatures this morning have been above freezing. so the snow that we've seen through most of the morning, mostly north of the district, melting on contact. that's good. we're only dealing with wet roads. >> and those temperatures will be below freezing. by the time we get to about sun do you know tonight. these are friday morning temperatures. you'll be waking up to temperatures in the teens and 20s and with a bit of a breeze left, we could have single number windchills around here first thing tomorrow morning. for now, theory, we're really sort of on the southern and southwestern tip. snow and rain mixed together. thunderstorms along the jersey coast. that is going to turn into a powerhouse nor'easter by later on today. so heavy snow, a foot or more likely for new york city. if you're planning on flying today, make sure you call your carrier first. i'lve

forecast coming up at 6:51. the messy weather is having a big impact on air travel, as you might imagine. so if you are headed for a flight, hear from transportation reporter adam tuss live at dulles international this morning. even though we don't have snow here, it's still going to affecting us. >> absolutely. you saw what was going on in philadelphia, new york, boston, a lot of snow up there. as people start to come here to the airports, start to get busier, you're going to want to make sure that if you have a flight to those places, that you check ahead. take a look at these updated numbers that we just got from flight aware. regular yab national, 185 cancellations already today. bwi marshall, 75. and here at dulles, 47 cancellations. now, inside the terminal, the delays and cancellations are up on the board and crowds are starting to form. we actually talked to one guy here who said that he came down here from new york to try to catch a flight, went to reagan national where he was told to go. that flht

northbound, southbound, bw parkway, a little slow. right now, a little sloet slow, yes, but it is that time "day and we have those wet roads in virginia. same thing on 66 and 95. what is going to be one heck of a nor'easter is just about ready to move off the delaware coastline there. this thing is going intensify rapidly. 80s does so, our winds are dramatically going to increase from the northwest later on today. they're pretty gusty, but if this storm intensifies, thunder and lightning off the jersey shore in february. that is rare. so this thing is going to spin up to near hurricane force as it goes out across parts of the north atlantic. with that rapid intensification, we're going to draw the cold air in here. so wet snow and rain here early this morning. this first area of steady precipitation will be moving out. we may still get some squally weather back later on this afternoon. currently, the winds are gusting between 25 and 35 miles per
