immigration order. in a new ruling the ninth circuit court of appeals has refused to reinstate his travel ban. the three judge panel ruled the u.s. government presented no evidence to explain its case. >> so for now here's what the court's ruling means. people with valid visas from the seven predominantly muslim countries are allowed to travel in and out of the u.s. as if the order never existed. it's far from over though. trump tweeted see you in court, the security of our nation is at stake. reporte repo >> we'll seem them in court. it's a political decision and we'll see them in court. we have a situation where the security of our country is at stake and it's a very, very serious situation, so we look forward, as i just said, to seeing them in court.

this morning cleanup continues in parts of the northeast after their biggest snowstorm of the season. >> folks were digging out from philly to new york. but their cleanup could seem minor compared to places like boston and northern new england which saw the worst of the storm. the powerful noreaster shut down schools and businesses all along the atlantic and made travel miserable for millions. >> my boss said i hope i'll see

japan's prime minister. a big focus will center on transpacific partnership. the two leaders will meet at the white house this morning. then travel to golf together this weekend. and president trump is vowing to go to the highest court many the land to restore his travel ban. >> it is a legal showdown that is far from over. edward lawrence live on capitol hill now to break down what this latest ipee late latest awe appeals ruling means. >> reporter: they did not look at the merits of the case. they ruled fact that the government had insufficient evidence to overturn the ban that was put in -- or the stay on the travel ban that was put into place by the lower court ruling. now, the washington state attorney who brought this says that he recognizes the fact that donald trump has the authority to write an executive order but that he must follow the constitution. >> and the president took to twitter saying see you in cout,

options really does the white house have left at this point? >> reporter: he can go to the u.s. supreme court. he can also ask all of the judges in the nooirnt circuit court of appeals to make their ruling but the fact that it was unanimous is likely they would follow that decision. >> all right. live on capitol hill for us. thank you. and local reaction to the appeals court ruling came quickly. critics all along has said this order effectively amounts to a muslim ban. but supporters of the president say that's not what this order is about and that the legal fight is not over. >> i am confident that the trump administration will appeal this to the united states supreme court. it will probably win. even if it doesn't the administration will revise the executive order to make sure that it is constitutional. >> so many people have been harmed by this ban, families, states.

reaction we've seen has followed along party lines. and here's what happens next. nbc justy correspondent reports it is a virtual certainty they will move this to the supreme court. with eight justices on the court right now there is a chanceof a tie, which would block the executive order from being enforced. the message from the appeals court indicated that because of the executive order that it was broad and covered green card and visa holders, it harms the u.s. maryland governor larry hogan facing criticism over his social media accounts. people left comments on his facebook page against the travel ban urging hogan to condemn the order. some of those were deleted. 450 people have been banned from commenting on his page since the governor took office. his office says that's because of bad language or coordined

attacks. he was charged with plotting a terror attack in northern virginia and today, mohammed jala will find out how long he will spend in prison. we'll be in the courtroom this morning. you can follow on@chris gordon news. he was arrested in virginia after a three month sting by the fbi. the fbi says they believe he was helping isis and wanted to carry out an attack like the shooting at fort hood. also in northern virginia this morning a developing case in stafford county. chase rook is facing charges of assault and abduction. the sheriff's office says he slammed his ex- girlfriend against her car while her one-year-old baby was in the backse backseat. he then forced her into the car and started to drive. deputies arrested him when they drove back and she called 911. a high school student facin

after attacking another student. the cell phone video of the attack has been widely shared online. we should warn you though, you may find this disturbing. >> now, police tell us the video shows a 15-year-old girl attacking a 17-year-old girl on einstein high school. the victim as changed schools fearing for her safety. now the school is responding with this message. >> we always encourage student to stay in our school system. we want to provide them with a safe place to learn. the behavior in this video is disturbing and disheartening. >> the parent who shared the video thinks it is unfair that the victim had to change schools while the accused attacker was suspended. some people in one northern virginia neighborhood are on edge after a series of car break-ins. arlington county police say more than a dozen
