sitting this day out. the protests will be costing them tens of thousands of dollars. chef jose a this dreas, a native of spain is closing his establishment if bloomingdale. similar protests are being planned in l.a. and philly and across the country today. by day's end, supporters are hoping the white house gets their message. their hopes that immigrants can no longer face discrimination can contribute to society and their families can remain in the u.s. together. bus boys owner andi shalal explains. >> i wanted to make sure that we are in solidarity with them. as an immigrant, i do believe in the cause. it do believe it's time for us to speak up as immigrants and be able to highlight to the rest of the world and the rest of the city and hopefully the political elite that immigrants

and in montgomery county, police rb have been looking for 17-year-old lynn sis barth. if you've seen her, contact police. parents, take a look at your screen right now. there are two elementary schools dealing with bed bugs. >> megan, if i also in on was going on here. >> bud bugs found another another d.c. schools, but minor elementary school remains open. kids are expected to report to class. parents have been notified of the situation. there have been three incidents here at minor elementary where bud bugs were found. all of those incidents happening this month. school officials say they don't believe it's a widespread infestation. custodians have cleaned the affected areas. just recently,

these four adults are charged with her abduction. this 17-year-old returned home yesterday. initially police said she may be in danger, too, but now they say she's connected somehow to the murder. she is in custody. we're looking at the extend of her involvement, somehow, some way the people are connected through acquaintances, through knowledge of the crimes. >> police believe everyone involved is affiliated or acquainted with one gang. in texas, a man is accuseded of drilling into his sister-in-law's head. he's charged with aggravated assault. court documents say he drilled into her forehead inside their home earlier this week. we're not sure of the woman's condition right now or why he did what he did. the texas judge ordered him to have no contact with his sister-in-law. and in news for your health at

the fight against autism. a new study shows it is possible to detect the disorder in children before their first birthday. the diagnosis usually doesn't happen until between ages 2 and 4. during the study, doctors performed mri brain scans on babies who had older siblings with autism. based on the scans, doctors were able to predict 80% of the time whether the child would later by diagnosed with autism. >> we can begin interventions earlier such as speech therapy, physical therapy, behavior therapy, to improve the long-term outcome of these children. >> experts say they still need to do more testing before making the scans a common practice. thousands of workers in d.c. will get up to eight weeks of paid family leave. tease because mayor bowser allowed the bill to take affect without her signature. she opens dollars it calling it a burden on businesses because it opposes a new

investigation for the alleges beating and rape of a 22-year-old man. in all of this, 22 people have been arrested in the protests. >> erica, thank you. fire iters have been able to halt this firefighter in christ church new zealand. >> this has burned down hundreds of homes. it spans about 5,000 acres there. they say the area has been unusually dry for three years, but the exact cause is still unknown here. concerns this morning about the possibility of rain after a huge concrete slab nearly fell from a high rise building that is under construction. the this is in san francisco. people in several surrounding buildings were evacuated as crews to tried to secure the 2,000 pound slab to the 30th floor. that construction site, those evacuation orders have been lifted now after the management company was able to confirm the slab was secure. incoming rain could delay crews are from moving

what you'll see today, restaurants and business closed and several different cities are taking part if this. protests are planned here, but they're also in chicago, they're in boston, in houston. philadelphia and new york. thousands of people are expected to march and hundreds will have the day off. local and national restaurants saying they will close. blue ribbon restaurants closed in new york and world leaders are reacting. former mexican president fox saying, quote, america owes its greatness to those who chose to live their dreams far from home. justin will have much more on what you can expect today. follow him on twitter. these boycott ones across the country come as i.c.e. is pushing back on reports that they are conducting mass immigration raids. >> the agency took

checkpoints false. rumors rattled several communities with reports spreading over social media. homeland security arrested several undocumented immigrants in raids across the country. officials say those raids targeted criminals. meanwhile, some are questioning the way i.c.e. officials handled an arrest last week near a church shelter. ice agents surrounded him and other latino men. i.c.e. officials a seasonal two men were arrested at that location. it instructs agents to avoid arrests at places of worship, schools and medical facilities. she emphasized the arrest took place across the street, not on church property. this morning, we're getting our first look at the man the sheriff's office says was burglarizing homes during the

day. theodore bailey is now behind bars. he was caught on the home surveillance camera. this morning, the sheriff's office is connecting him to several daytime break-ins, both in loudoun and faulkier counties. he mostly stole guns. being mugged could happen to anyone anywhere. what you're wearing could become a role on whether you become a target. scott macfarlane explains what you can do to protect yourself. >> inside the mind of a mugger. our news partners in new york sent surveys to hundreds of condigited robbers asking them who they target and what you should do if you ends up being you. that includes david serrano, a serial mugger who admitted to more than a hundred cases, now serve ago 25 years to life prison sentence. close to half of those who responded to the survey say they didn't care about the age of their victim and they were most often

this morning, two d.c. elementary schools are dealing with bed bugs. you can see where they are on this map right here. >> one of the schools is savoy elementary in southeast. the other is miner elementary school in northeast. that is where megan mcgrath is live this morning. what do parents need to know? >> well, parents need to know that even though bed bugs were found behind miner public school. parents have been notified there are three incidents where bed bugs were found inside miner elementary school. all of those cases happening this month. school officials say do not believe this is a widespread infestation. they're monitoring areas, keeping an eye on things and they think they have at this point a handle on it. just recently, savoy elementary wahu

bug infestation. there kids have been going to classes at a temporary location. so certainly a very disruptive situation, a larger issue at savoy elementary, but we are now learning that a second school has been impacted by bed bugs, miner elementary school. not a lot of details has been released other than to notify parents that on three separate occasions this month, bugs were found. we don't know where they were found, whether they were on students, but certainly something that they are keeping a very close eye on. unfortunately bed bugs, they feed on blood. they like to be in warm places like mattresses and box springs. something for people to deal with this morning. back to you all. megan, thank you. it is now 5:48. developing this morning, at least a dozen people will wake up away tr home after a fire at a rock

the flames started tomorrow around 8:00 last night on a third floor balcony and quickly spread to the attic. this is video from.chopper 4. you can see firefighters on the upper levels. it is believed smoking materials are to blame for this fire. a six-month study confirms bullying and harassment are problems inside a northern virginia fire department. you'll recall allegations came up after firefighters paramedic nicole mitendorf submitted suicide last year. it's unclear if cyber bullying played a role in her death. but she apparently faced online harassment and bullying, possibly from colleagues. members of the department are expected to begin online training next month designed to counter bullying. right now, the serve is on for 72-year-old melvin wylie. police are concerned about his health and safety. he was reported missing around 10:00 last
