good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm erika gonzales. congressional members on both sides of the aisle have publicly criticized the president, but as nbc's chris pollone shows us, his supporters are still behind him. [ no audio ] we're going to try and get that for you later in the broadcast. those images you were just seeing were from a much different scene in minneapolis. people filling the street today to show their support for immigrants and refugees. more on that in just a moment. developing right now, police on the scene after a man barricades himself inside an apartment. news4's darcy spencer is live on the scene with how it all began.

darcy? >> reporter: erika, this is breaking news happening right here on the 36th street in northeast washington. you see the police car right here. this is 36th street you're looking at. the street is closed off and residents are being asked to shelter in place right now, because there is someone barricaded inside the apartment up here, up the street. police have armored cars and snipers assisting with this investigation. it all started around 3:00 this afternoon when the suspect apparently stabbed someone, and that victim is expected to be okay. the suspect then went inside his apartment and refused to come out. this has been going on for more than three hours now. we have been able to hear police trying to make contact with the suspect inside that apartment, and we can't tell whether they have been able to have any negotiations with him at this point. they are trying to end this peacefully. now police have told us they do not believe that this suspect is armed.

anyone's home. he's in his apartment, and we're just taking caution and care to go in there appropriately, and make contact with the individual. >> reporter: did he make any threats? >> no he has not. >> reporter: so, again, like the police are saying, he's not making any threats. we're not sure if he's even communicating with police at this time. they have this area surrounded. the streets here are blocked off, and residents are in the immediate area being asked to shelter in place. erika, back to you. >> darcy spencer live on the scene, thank you. prince william county police charging robert potts for driving under the influence. and he was involved in a crash that killed an acquaintance. police say potts and another woma woman, nellie ray sacra. potts tried to you turn on to med row brook drive. sacra crashed into him and she died. police say speed and alcohol

a bizarre accident in centreville today. a man working on his car and somehow it struck and killed him. the car then hit the house. nobody else was injured. this happened on princeway. police identified the victim. the family who lives in this house, this video here, lucky to escaped after flames engulfed their home this morning. firefighters found fierce flames and thick black smoke. this was the scene about 8:00 this morning on turkey run road in mclean it's a narrow road which made it tough for cruise to get to work. investigators are still trying to determine a cause. she was at the center of an explosive debate that has divided the country along cultural lines for the last five decades. today the jane doe in roe vs. wade has died.

okay. so what you're seeing here is literally a chunk of a mountain that gives way. this is in california this week. firefighters in san bernardino county started recording the slide after it took down those trees. >> it's coming down!

>> fire officials say a few homes at the base of the slide are still too unstable to live in. they're also concerned about a major road that's nearby. so far, incredibly, nobody has been hurt in this. the district's death with dignity law takes effect today. despite republicans trying to shut down the measure. on friday, the 30-day congressional review period ended. the law allows doctors to provide lethal medication to some terminally ill patients. d.c. becomes the seventh in the nation with the law. congress can try to prevent the measure from getting funding.

and now, your storm team 4 forecast. >> what a gorgeous day out there today. you don't need me to tell you that. hopefully you got outside and enjoyed it. it was so wonderful. temperatures around here in d.c., just about 3:40, hit our daytime high of 68 degrees. a lot of other places made it into the mid 70s. now we're talking about maybe a little bit of cloud cover. that's rolling in right now with a gorgeous sunset out there. we could have a little sprinkle tonight. i really don't think it's in the cards for a lot of people but we'll continue to watch. slight breeze on sunday. and then we're still fairly mild as we go through the next ten days. the question i've been getting all day today, is winter over? i'm going to show you this ten day forecast and see if we can't find ourselves snow. current temperatures, 57 in d.c. you step outside the beltway areas, still in the 60s right now. little cool for areas by the water, because we are getting that south wind. so the potomac still on the cool side, especially around the bay.

water. that's why some areas are in the 50s while other areas made it into the 60s and 70s today. but if you're headed out, anywhere around the region, it is going to be mild. we're slipping into the 40s during the overnight. we could have a few sprinkles, but that's about it. here's a look at our radar. you're not seeing anything. you are seeing the cloud cover pushing into the region. we have a few sprinkles down to the south and west. the thing is, they're not hitting the ground. we're way too dry out there. so a lot of this is evaporating before it gets to the surface. this little disturbance in the upper levels of the atmosphere is trying to move into the region. i can't rule out a few sprinkles, but other than that, we're fine. temperatures when you wake up tomorrow morning, starts with cloud cover. but we're going to warm up into the 50s, headed towards the mid to upper 60s again tomorrow. a slight breeze in the air. we'll get some sunshine by tomorrow afternoon. so if you've got things to do, maybe headed out to brunch, saw a lot of people out there today, you probably could eat outside if people have the table set out. bye-bye bao bao, great conditions to head out to the zoo. biking, hiking,

recently the caps have been getting contribution from some unlikely sources. that trend continued today. caps back in action for the first time in a week. zach sanford scored the game-winning goal against the ducks last time out. his first career nhl goal. sanford at it again. puts the caps on the board in the second. washington trailing 2-1, heading into the third. daniel winnik a fourth line winger scores the equalizer and that send the game into overtime. no one scores in the extra session. this one needed a shootout. skip to the fifth round. alex ovechkin has to score to keep this one going. caps' captain is denied. they fall in the shootout 3-2 the final. >> we battled. it's one of those games that we come back, you've just got to fight through it. so i thought we resilient
