going to be another nice day. mostly cloudy but temperatures closer to 60 degrees again. so let's take a look at that bus stop forecast and what you need to wear before you step outside. >> yes, indeed. the heavy winter coats have hardly been needed for most of the winter. a cold day here and there, but that's about it. this is how the kids should be dressed today. an insulated hoodie and waiting for the buses, temperatures 30s to around 40 so certainly chilly for the ride in. coming home later today, really not all that cold. we'll call it seasonably cool. so a medium jacket here early this morning. maybe the sunglasses. more clouds than yesterday but umbrellas not needed for today and really the earmuffs and gloves, i think it's time to use those. you put your winter clothes in the space bag and vacuum the air out of it? >> i have one, i never use it. >> i should use it. northbound 28, we are still s

dulles toll road because of a crash and investigation. all southbound lanes are open here this morning so we're sending justin out that way to get some eyes on it. as soon as he gets there we'll bring you live picture. you can see inner and outer loop running just fine. 66 and 95 here, no worries there. we have a crash through the outer loop, just not seeing any real slowdowns. a look in prince george's county coming up. this is one of the last videos we'll see of bao bao basking in the sunlight. in less than five hours she will leave the national zoo for her new home in china. >> we're live outside the national zoo with more on the long cuss testimony journey for bao bao. you have to think she's aware of all this hype surrounding her hype and sort of hamming it up for the cameras yesterday i think.

i mean, she put on quite a show while i was there and just wowed the crowd. yeah, and so today we're tracking her every move. we checked the panda cam. she's not in there because they're getting her ready for the departure here from the zoo and taking her to dulles airport and all of that is going to happen around 10:00 a.m. her departure here from the zoo, they will -- the keepers and the fed ex panda team will load her using a special forklift and pick up her giant crate, put it in the truck and take it on out to dulles for her 1:30 flight it's a nonstop 14 to 16 hour journey to china. now, a special flight plan mapped out for the easiest experience for bao bao. take a look at the 777 fed ex panda express freighter. it's specially outfitted for her even with the cutest panda decal

inside there's a custom built plexiglas enclosure so she can be able to move around, she can play with her toy, she can eat food. her carry on luggage is about 70 pounds and includes of course the toys but bamboo, apples, sweet potatoes, other sweet treats, this is a big team effort and all of this in the end leads to an emotional farewell. >> i'm a very emotional person so i'm sure the last day i that i'm with her there will be some tears but i think about it from my professional side and i couldn't be any prouder of her. >> now, the fed ex panda express team, they've done this before with 12 giant pandas. six flights in the past, including bao bao's brother. and it was a run yesterday at the zoo

and take a look at this. i got this a couple years ago for my kids after visiting bao bao and it's almost bigger than me. and we just can't get enough of her. eun, i'm not sharing. >> you read my mind. you know i was going to say, bring one for me. you read my mind. thank you. >> that zoo keeper really echoed my sentiments exactly. we're shedding a few tears. the 70s, that is when china gave the american people a pair of pandas as a gift. they arrived in 1972, but they never had a cub that survived more than a few days. nearly three decades passed before bao bao's parents came to the u.s. and they're really the ones who grew d.c.'s panda population. in 2005 they had their first

shan and he went to china to participate in their breeding program. then it was 2013 when his sister bao bao was born. beibei came along two dyears later and he will stay at the national zoo before he heads to china as well. he's only 18 months old. if you haven't seen him, adorable. if you're having panda withdrawals, do not worry. we have a whole section dedicated to bao bao on the nbc washington app including some of her cutest pictures. we could find out how immigration and border agents will be directed to go after undocumented immigrants. new implementation guidelines for the two immigration executive orders signed by president trump last month are expected to be unveiled. draft memos were leaked over the

welcome back. we are talking about a little cooldown, but i mean, little. >> just barely enough to notice. temperatures today about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday, but still 10 degrees above average and a winter with no cold months. december was our chilliest of the winter months. only two degrees above average and now thanks to another day yesterday it was 20 degrees above average, february now running a 6.6 degree temperature surplus and there's more mild weather to come. a look at the rest of the week and the extended forecast coming up in just a couple more minutes. take ago look at traffic right now. we have our eyes on this crash in herndon. northbound 28 diverted off at the dulles toll road this morning. taking a look elsewhere, outer loop at connecticut avenue, no problems as far as slowdowns but we do have a crash on the right side of t

everything through prince george's county looking good as well. >> thank you. new details in a bizarre d.c. murder. 76-year-old bennett is accused of killing walter clark whose picture you see there. on friday officers found clark naked inside a closet at a home on 21st street in northeast. they're suspicious about money from an insurance settlement clark received before his death. bennett claims she was the victim's fiance but clark's family members dispute that. two virginia abc officers are accusing a university of virginia graduate student of keeping documents from prosecutors. you may remember this video in 2015. that video sparked national outrage. johnson is now suing two agents. attorneys for the agents say johnson has not turned over e-mails and texts about the incident. back

get into a bar with a fake id. he maintains he had a valid id and was not intoxicated during the incident. now uber has fired former u.s. attorney general eric holder to investigate the claims. a former engineer says she and other women were propositioned by a manager for sex. this won't be holder's first investigation involving a popular app. last year airbnb hired him to combat discrimination against people booking properties. if your pet has an emergency, first responders are not able to help. right now it is illegal but a new bill could change that today. the current bill says you have to have a vet license to provide life saving medical care to

animals. backers of the bill say it should be changed. the grateful owner wanted to make sure she thanked the fire crew that saved her dog, so erika davis and sadie delivered lunch to the crew yesterday. she was alone in the house when the fire started. >> they had wrapped her in a blanket. she had a fire host hose around her neck as a leash and they were sitting with her. i mean, i was so preesh yative. >> davis also donated stickers that can be placed on your window to let first responders know that a pet is inside. i have that sticker, by the way. >> it's a good indicator because sometimes they don't know. >> especially if your animal gets scared and they hide. the firefighters might think there's nothing in here to

rescue, but that's awesome. today it's a little bit cooler. >> you can feel it. >> i put a coat on too. some areas in the 30s but as we go through the morning hours, we are continuing to look at temperatures mostly right around the freezing point for areas like frederick and those spots. so this is what we're looking at currently in the district we're at 43 degrees right now. so that's what the temperature is across the area. it's a little bit cooler than it was yesterday. if you are exercising today, 7:00 a.m., cool conditions, 43 degrees. by noon, 53 and by this afternoon, we're looking at temperatures closer to 60 degrees. take a look at the satellite. we're seeing clouds around this morning. no rain with this but we are looking at more cloud cover today than we had yesterday. future weather not showing the rain but continuing to show the clouds. keeping us dry, but by tomorrow morning we could be looking at a few isolated showers.

there at again, talking about this problem here in herndon, northbound 28 right now shut down and diverted there at the dulles toll road. southbound lanes are unaffected but just take a look here at the delays. we're approaching one mile this morning. angie has much more as far as details go at the live desk. >> yes, the loudoun county sheriff's office, we have been in clear contact with them all through the morning telling us that one woman has died after being ejected from a jeep. the jeep that all three of -- or two of the passengers and the driver were traveling in. the driver is expected to survive. he was charged with dui. officials saying that he hit a traffic divider which caused the crash. as you take a look at the jeep right there we have a live picture for you. we know that another passenger, another woman also thrown from this jeep, but she is expected to be okay. she's being treated right now. police not releasing the names

of all three w they say they are notifying family members now. justin finch will have a live report from the scene coming up. it's 5:32. new this morning we're learning a missing woman has been found dead. the discovery of kristin spurrier's body was found after her parents pled for help finding her. no one had seen her since she went to owings mills february 4th. the medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death. she went there to buy drugs. a major change to how sex assault cases are prosecuted. last night hundreds gathered for a women's rally outside the state capitol in annapolis. a hearing will be held today on how prosecutors will be able to

staff reince priebus are a plane crash in australia. >> we now know americans are dead. angie is live at the live desk with new video. >> new footage that shows what so many headed to work witnessed. it shows drivers just going along. notice off to the right of your screen, that huge plume, that huge cloud. that fire ball in the sky. after a charter plane carrying five people crashed into this shopping mall and exploded. as we take a closer look at the point of impact here, it is amazing that no one on the ground was hurt. this happened around 9:00 a.m. australian time right before this mall was actually set to open. we do know that two of the four americans killed were from the state of texas and visiting australia for a golf trip. an australian pilot also died in this accident. officials saying that the plane took off from a melbourne airport near that mall, really close. still no word what caused the

crash. virginia taking concerns over recent immigration arrests directly to the secretary of homeland security. a news 4 report about arrests outside a fairfax church. a group of men was leaving rising hope mission church on february 8th when agents detained some men. several of them were arrested. they will meet on sunday to discuss those arrests. governor is also making headlines this morning after vetoing three bills passed by state legislators. one would have allowed people to carry concealed switchblades. another would lower the legal age to carry a concealed handgun for military. it would have allowed home schooled students the right to play high school sports in public schools. critics say that creates an uneven playing field.

damage as the sun. 15 before the hour. we're following breaking news out on the roads this morning. a deadly accident near dulles international airport has shut down part of route 28 north. >> justin finch just arrived on the scene with a look at how officials are rerouting traffic. what's going on? >> reporter: eun, good morning. right now that loudoun county sheriff's investigation still underway on the ground, route 28 northbound. we are looking at cars moving. they're being bypassed on to route 267 toward dulles airport here. perhaps you can see that crashed median there. we are seeing officers and deputies in that area focusing on that. then move further down and you can see what appears to be that mangled jeep. we do know about 2:00 this morning that jeep did crash into a median. we know inside were three people. two women ejected. a male driver behind the wheel.

one woman was injured. here on scene. that driver is now facing dui charges. he is also recovering from his injuries here. they have not been identified at this time. law enforcement is identifying them as well as their next of kin. we can tell you right now that traffic is moving rather slowly at points and if you have other routes in mind you may want to take them this morning. this investigation could wrap up by 6:00 a.m. or so. but as you can see right now it does not appear that will happen right away, but in short order. and we are live out here on route 28 southbound. back in to you. thank you. it seems more and more of you are opting not to use metro and you know that means fewer riders and less revenue for the agency. newly released ridership data

rail trips dropped 12% in the last six months of 2016. shortfall predicted in rev view from fares and parking. transportation reporter says metro will discuss these numbers at a public meeting on thursday. yesterday may have been the last time your student gets to stay home on president's day. the maryland general assembly is considering a bill that would allow school district to decide whether president's day is a day off. the same would be true for easter monday. lawmakers say since the school year is shorter than years past, taking up a few days could be very important to the school's schedule. should students in prek through second grade be expelled or receive out of school suspension for bad behavior? our news partners report the only exception would be if a child deliberately brought a gun to school. in school suspension for young students would still be allowed.

lawmakers are also trying to address it this graffiti was discovered over the weekend at the lincoln memorial, the washington monument and world war ii memorial. based on the handwriting it appears the same person is responsible. >> sometimes it takes multiple cleaning and cleansings to get it to come out, but of course, what we want to do in the course of getting it off, we don't want to do further damage to the stone. >> he says the park service staff are skilled in trickty process of removing all that graffiti. thousands of people marked president's day with rallies against president trump. they chanted stand up, fight back. it was part of the not my president's day rallies which were staged in more than two dozen cities.

by frederick and county, virginia at winchester regional. outside for temperatures this morning, a mix of clouds and sunshine, easily into the low 50s by noontime today. on the whole, i think you'll view today as being a very good day. yesterday was outstanding and tomorrow, probably going to be between very good and outstanding as temperatures way up into the 60s. so what to wear? maybe a medium jacket and maybe a small pair of sunglasses but not a lot of blinding sunshine for today. skies will be partly to mostly cloudy. that clouds will increase a little bit and maybe a chance for a stray shower early tomorrow. here's future weather, nothing to worry about. all dry through the daylight hours tonight. by about this time tomorrow morning mostly cloudy and maybe an isolated shower mainly from about washington southbound towards fredericksburg. but rain chances tomorrow generally speaking are under 30% and even if you've got rain tomorrow it's not going to add

could include coming up at gluten free is everywhere these days from restaurant menu to grocery stores. it's becoming a more common option. >> some people avoid gluten to lose weight or for a healthier diet but do you really need this change? a look at our food fares series. >> gluten free diets. healthy or just hype? the number of americans who were gluten free or described themselves that way tripled between 2009 and 2014. but does being gluten free help in the long run and if so, who does it help? >> in terms of allergy it's only about half of the population that will have a wheat allergy but because of celiac disease and gluten free diets being a fad it's a big topic. >> it's an autoimmune disease,
