response times by d.c. fire ems. the fire chief says the department has made progress but is still struggling when it comes to advance life support calls. response times have not improved nearly a year into the district's use of a private ambulance service. he made the statement in a letter to firefighters and paramedics. a spokesman released a statement countering that statement saying in part, quote, the bottom line is that we are responding faster to 911 calls adding that the department is aggressively hiring paramedics and adding three medic units. this comes as the mayor is scheduled to tout the department's improvements today and announce changes in the way the district bills insurance companies for ambulance services. we'll be at today's announcement. as early as today the trump administration could roll back federal guidelines that allow

her mother said she spoke with her yesterday, but she won't say where she is. police say they're worried for the 22-year-old's physical welfare. if you see her call police. and we told you about another missing person at this time yesterday. now police are saying she could be in danger if she doesn't get her medication. mattei is 15-year-old and has a serious medical condition. she was last seen nearly a week ago on banks court. police say she was wearing a pink georgia state sweatshirt, dark leggings and black shoes with pink stripes when she went missing. let's go to our news room and the live desk. yesterday morning we were sending bao bao off to china. she's almost there, she had a nice flight and lots of snacks. >> good morning. and you survived. you guys survived. well, forget the panda cam because we have now got the panda tracker. we know that bao bao is very close to safely landing in her e.

tracker. it shows that bao bao is scheduled to land probably in about an hour and a half right before the 6:00 hour this morning. we are going to work on getting that video of her grand arrival. we all said that final good-bye to the 3-year-old panda yesterday when she left via the panda express on her 16 hour journey. bao bao was eating. the officials saying that pandas spend 13 to 16 hours a day eating and they had 65 pounds of bamboo an board among other things in the suitcase. so she's probably very happy and ready for a good nap. she will eventually join a panda breeding program once she is in her new home. >> i spend about 13 hours eating too. i knew we were connected in many ways. >> now we understand. >> and eun, just so you feel comfortable the weather in china when bao bao lan

towards la rea. it's this weather system and it's mostly sliding from west to east, not so much to the north, but on radar we do have the showers around culpepper. and this is mostly just light rain. it's nothing very heavy. we're not looking at any thunderstorms but what we are going to be looking at later today, we're not going to see that rain this afternoon. the first half of the day, but the temperatures will be a little bit warmer today in the mid-50s by lunchtime this morning. not even that cold either. we're starting in the mid-40s for most of the area so you don't need the heavy coat this morning, but this afternoon, maybe the short sleeves. even warmer temperatures in the forecast coming up. we'll have a look at that for you, but for now let's take a look at the roadways for you. >> so a little bit of construction hanging around. this is another piece that we see almost every day for the past couple of months. ck

street and virginia avenue. right lane gets by each direction here this morning. northbound 295 at benning road there in northeast, have that right lane blocked as well. the beltway looks quite good. no problems innerer or outer loop. quantico to the beltway you're on time from quantico to the beltway. you're going to get there in 18 minutes. southbound you don't have any problems there. taking a look right now at prince george's county, bottom of the beltway, everything into town and out of town just fine. a little bit of a slowdown inbound 4 and that has now disappeared. you know, open the door. >> it is a call they were not even supposed to take. the d.c. police officers who went beyond the call of duty to save a man's life and it was all caught on camera. a warning for anyone using metro, where you're more likely to hurt yourself during your morning commute. and a special report, what we're learning about police

get your seat belt off. >> yes, sir. >> their day should have ended sunday night but instead they answered one more call. the driver was dazed from crashing into a utility pole in northeast and could not free himself. with the car on fire, officers rushed in to pull him to safety. >> without training and you know, just our instinct, the job field that we're in at any given moment anything can happen so we have to react quickly. >> another couple minutes if we hadn't been there, if we hadn't stumbled across it it would have been ap different story. >> officers refused to leave the car until they knew no one else was inside. it's not clear how badly the driver is hurt. we're working to get an update on his condition. those are our everyday heroes right there.

an illegal immigrant is uncovered. they'll be held until they have a hearing. and those who are in the country illegally less than two years, they will now be immediately deported. the lag time on that used to be two weeks, so a big change there. and adults who pay smugglers will be prosecuted. those who pay smugglers to have their children moved in illegally, they'll be prosecuted or expelled. a lot to uncover and work through here. one thing to mention also, these changes will take months and some cases years to really carry out and several civil rights organizations are already preparing a legal challenge to the measures. >> and congress is in recess this week so lawmakers in their districts and really getting an earful from their constituents. what are some of the issues voters say they're concerned about? >> reporter: that's across the country. a lot of people getting a

yeah, about 25 degrees above normal. for this morning we are starting with some showers, mainly to the south of the district. if you are around culpepper county and those areas, that's where we have some shouwers around. rain for part of your weekend. here's a look at the radar. that big area of rain, that's going to be sliding south of the district but as we go through the morning hours we are looking at it in the area. so here you see it approaching near fredericksburg as well but still off to the west of that near culpepper and also near la ray. some very light rain and down to the south as well. i think it will mostly be staying south of the district. everyone is in the 40s except for frederick now dropped to 39 degrees but this is still pretty mild for this time of the morning. 46 now in the district. if you are exercising today, chance of a shower by 7:00 a.m. especially south of d.c. 46 degrees. by noon, 58 and by this afternoon, 65 degrees.
