precautionary umbrella especially west or south of the immediate d.c. area, because of those little rain chances but later on today it will be milder with temperatures up near 65. to see who needs the umbrella let's go over to my colleague sheena parveen. >> good morning, chuck. mostly the showers are south of the district and we expect them to stay there too through the afternoon. this weather system that's bringing them in mostly sliding from west to east. here's a closeup look at where the rain is now. culpepper, that's where you see the yellow. that could be more moderate rainfall. the green showing us the lighter rainfall. that's over toward larea. if we zoom out you see that whole area of rain sliding from west to east. so should be staying to the south of the district. most of you will be staying on the dry side but we're watching those showers closely. look at these numbers this morning. nobody's in the 30s except for frederick and those temperatures

this mean if you find yourself needing such an ambulance. >> reporter: chief says the overall response times have improved but what we're talking about here this morning is specifically those critical calls, right? we're talking about advanced life support calls. those are the ambulances staffed by paramedics who are supposed to respond to the most critical emergencies like cardiac arrest. this morning we're live outside engine 30 in northeast. later this morning the mayor and the chief are expected to talk about these overall faster response times when you call 911. a possible change to ambulance billing and a new initiative on nonemergency 911 calls. there are hundreds that are made every day, in fact. and remember for the last year the district has been using a private ambulance service for cases like these critical calls, and last night the chief sent a

guidelines that allow transgender students to use the bathroom matching the gender which they identify. you might remember last spring president obama called on schools across the country to adopt the new bathroom guidelines. the trump administration says that decision has quote, given rise to significant litigation and needs to be changed. if it is changed it could have an effect on several legal cases including that of virginia teen gavin grim. he's a transgender student who sued the gloucester county school board for not allowing him to use the boys' bathroom. his case heads to the supreme court next month. researchers say people are living longer. researchers say by 2030 the highest life expectancies will be in south korea. the 2030 life expectancy projection for american women is around 83 ye

you know what doesn't help apparently is too much sugar. food plays a big role in our overall health and this week we're taking a closer look at some of the ingredients you eat every day. >> sugar could be as bad for you as tobacco. we're breaking down our food fears with a closer look. >> we all need a certain amount of sugar to survive. there are naturally occurring sugars like the sugars you find in fruits and vegetables and some grains. and then there's added sugar. dietary guidelines recommend that we limit sugar, added sugar to 10% of the daily calorie intake. that's six teaspoons of sugar for women and nine for men. not a lot. it is everywhere from salad dressings to pasta sauces, breakfast cereals and of course soda. >> it's been linked to an added risk of heart

within a tenth of a degree of either tying or exceeding the record for all-time warmest february. wait till you see this extended forecast into the weekend. how about two or three more days in the 70s just around the corner. right now 47 under a cloudy sky here in washington. planning out the day, a lot of clouds, maybe a couple light rain drops around here the first part of the day. mainly out west of the city. even with a fair amount of clouds around we'll get just enough sunshine to get temperatures up to about 65 degrees. here's all the moisture bottled up to our south and most of this will be staying south of town. there's a couple drops and sprinkles here southeast washington down towards along 301, our future weather carries a little bit of a light rain chance farther to the south with time this morning so that by later on here's 1:00 this afternoon. all the rain out of the metro, maybe a few lingering drops down closer to

lorton virginia neighborhood. a little boy is dead after a house fire last night. >> chopper 4 flew over the scene for us. the house was surrounded by rescue crews and investigators. justin finch live at the scene with the latest on this. good morning. >> reporter: aaron, good morning. the fairfax county fire chief describing the haunting scene here last night. loved ones telling us they believe the young boy and pets were trapped inside and sadly they were right. shortly after that fire was put out, firefighters searched the home and inside they found that young boy and two dogs. this fire breaking out just after 5:00 last night here on the 8100 block of arcade street. a man and woman were able to escape. both were hurt and were hospitalized. their relation to that young boy are not yet clear.

officials say two men, neighbors, tried to go in and rescue the victims. one an offduty fireman, the other a retired firefighter. >> individuals tried to go inside the house to make a rescue, and they could not get but so far because of the smoke pushed them out and they ended up getting transported to the hospital as well with nonlife threatening injuries. >> reporter: and those two men are expected to recover as are that man and woman who escaped this house fire last night. looking live at this home you can see that heavy smoke damage above the garage. that's the early focus of this investigation where smoke and fire were found when firefighters first arrived here on the scene. we don't have the names or ages yet of the victims that were involved. we'll bring you that information as soon as we get that. for now we are live here in loto

6:34 right now. we have new information about yesterday's crash on route 28 near the dulles toll road. we've learned that a recent college graduate was killed there. the loudoun county sheriff's office says perry was thrown from the jeep which had slammed into a highway divider. a drunk driver was behind the wheel here. the woman's parents say that she was supposed to be taking uber home. they hope her story sends a message to others. >> drinking and driving together is not -- or even, you know, just riding with someone who they know has been drinking. that is not the smart way to do it. >> so many options now. >> perry's parents say that she was a substitute teacher in b d loudoun county. her friend was also thrown but is expected to survive. they've charged andre glen with dui and driving on a suspended

not seriously hurt. president trump is trying to make good on a campaign promise in the first 100 days. we're getting a better idea this morning of the plan to deport millions of undocumented immigrants. angie goff many the news room with a look at what it all means. >> homeland security memos lay out all the changes. take a look. any time police pick up an undocumented person for any violation, that person could be deported. also, no more so called catch and release at the border. people picked up there will be held now until their court hearings. and the plan also calls for adding 5,000 more border patrol agents as well as ten thousand ice agents, but it does not remove protections for immigrants known as dreamers who were brought to the u.s. illegally as children. in the meantime, a revised presidential order restricting travel from seven predominantly muslim countries is expected by the end of the week. stay with us.

for the affordable care act. 45% have an unfavorable view. the poll was conducted from february 13th to the 19th among a national sample of over 7,000 adults. the affordable care act has been a big topic in town hall meetings across the country. right now congress is on break, but lawmakers are facing the wrath of many angry constituents from iowa to kentucky to texas and people are upset and making their voices heard. that anger is boiling up right here in our region. >> what are you talking about? >> that is some of the reaction at a town hall in virginia yesterday. so many people showed up to hear from the republican congressman they couldn't all fit in the building. he represents virginia's 7th district including
