still have that crash reported there, as well. beltway moving along quite nicely. we'll take a look at travel times coming up in ten minutes. hi, sheena a. >> good morning, melissa. temperatures this morning, very mild. a lot of people, if you're going to grab the jacket, don't grab a heavy coat. a lot of people will not need one this afternoon. take a look at these numbers. 54 in the district. our normal temperature for this time of the morning, this time of the year, it's 32 degrees. it feels unseasonably warm outside right now. most of the area is in the low 50s. and as we go through the day today, we could have some areas that get close to a record high temperature. look at your thursday planner. by noon, 6 degrees. by 4:00 p.m., we're looking at 74. the normal high is 49. and it's going to stay dry as we go through the day today. even by 7:00 p.m., temperatures still in the 70s. if you have the dinner plans and if you have anything to do outside, do it outside today. you're going to enjoy it. speaking of being outside, we're also going to be taking a look at that pollen in just a

scene. justin, what's going on now? >> eun, as you said, traffic is now moving here on i-295 northbound to my right i'm seeing we still have some responders here on scene. some blue and red flashing rights here. but to my left, these two lanes are moving. that's that third lane that we got word from vdot would be closed as this multi car crash investigation continues this morning. we know of at least one injuries. the accident of those injuries are not clear at this time. as you can see, traffic is being moved over into these two lanes here to our left here. the investigation is still going on. to my right, i'm looking at police cars on scene and looking at it, it seems as one vehicle is clearing away debris and fuel may have spilled. a very mangled car here to my right. a two-door vehicle is crashed and mangled to the right here. but yes, traffic

this time on i-295. the third lane to your right will be closed with the two left facing lanes are going to be open. back in to you. >> justin, thank you. it's now 06:04. now to erika at the live desk. >> this is a story that we have been monitoring throughout the morning. we have megan mcgrath who is on the scene gathering details. we understand this happened about 4:00 in the morning in southeast. now, the officer is a park police officer that was there for a traffic stop, we understand. the suspect in a dark colored older model dodge charger, according to park police, rammed that vehicle into the officer's cruiser. the officer discharged their weapon, but it's unclear if the suspect was hit by this. we can tell you that this suspect fled the scene. the officer, we understand, was injured. what you're seeing in that area, fought really any road or street

some activity there. there are investigators on the scene. megan mcgrath is also on the scene gathering details for the next time she sees you. those are the voices of hundreds of people protesting the trump administration's reversal of rest room protections for transgender students. the justice department and department of education wrote a letter withdrawing the obama administration's policy. it called on all public schools to let children use bathrooms that match their gender identity. so protesters took to the streets last night to shout their disapproval about that reversal. the obama administration guidance was issued as an interpretation of title 9, which baens sex discrimination in education. this new guidance essentially knocked down that

the white house says it gives states the ability to make decisions on the issue. it will have to immediate affect because the old policy notifies schools they could lose federal funds was put on hold by a federal court. this change comes as the supreme court is set to hear arguments next month on a case directly dealing with this issue. gavin grim, a transgender student sued the gloucester high school for fought allowing him to use the boy's bathroom. the 2017 conservative political action conference or cpac continues at national harbor today. steve bannon, kellyanne conway with, reince priebus and mike pence will speak tonight president trump president is set to take the stage tomorrow. secretary of state rex tillerson will meet with mexico's president tonight. the trip is seen as an attempt to smooth over tensions sparked by president trump's attempts to

it's now 6:07. breaking news, a major fire if prince george's county. >> ferocious flames in ft. washington, maryland. this is on tescanco road.in ft. washington, maryland. fire officials got a number of calls before they actually got there about seeing these flames very visible from this home. we understand that the fire may have either started or spread from the attic and the garage. we understand that two people in their 70s were able to get out of that house okay. but, again, a number of calls about 1:00 in the morning because of this huge fire in ft. washington, maryland. at the live desk, i'm erika gonzalezs. d.c.'s fire chief is acknowledging that response times for the most critical 911 calls have not improved. yesterday, d.c.'s mary leased a

times. it starts with staffing the 911 call center with a nurse. that person can screen calls and determine whether someone actually needs an ambulance. officials say d.c. gets hundreds of calls for ambulances for people who aren't having an emergency. another part of the plan would require insurance companies to pay more of the cost for ambulance transport. the fbi is now getting involved and asking for help with finding michaela metei. it's been about a week since her family last saw her at her home. michaela is 15 years old. police now believe she ran away with a man she met online. that man, metei metsla, whose photo is from the fbi. authorities say they could be headed to georgia. michaela's family is especially worried because she didn't take her medication with her. new overnight, someone is waking up a big winner. one person won the powerball jackpot

we'll have travel times for you, coming up. 6:32 now. right now, we want to get you an update on that police-involved shooting. >> megan mcgrath joins us now from southeast washington. megan, police still gathering evidence there? >> they cleared the scene. the intersection behind me clear. but they are still looking for the suspect at this hour. and they're looking for anyone can information. now, this all began to unfold a little before 4:00 this morning. a u.s. police officer pulled over a dodge charge e ter intersection of talbert terrace and talbert street. as the police officer was getting out of his cruiser, that is when the driver of that charger, we'll told, put it into reverse, hit the officer and hit the cruiser. that's when the

we're told several shots were fired. it's unknown whether the person behind the wheel was hit by the officer's bullets or not. don't know that at this point. as for the officer, we're told that he's at a hospital being treated for nonlife threatening injuries. but certainly at this hour, the search for the driver of that dark colored older model charger still under way. anybody with information, you're asking to come forward. back to you guys in the studio. 6:33. we're learning about a murder investigation in frederick, maryland. erika gonzales is at the live desk. >> a shooting and a suspect holed up inside a garage in frederick, maryland. police initially got the call last night about 10:00. reports of shots fired in the area. they think this all started inside the apartment, wound up escalating outside. the man that you see on your screen, richard harriday, the suspect in this now homicide investigation. police believe that one person was shot and killed

fled from that scene and barricaded himself inside a nearby garage. after speaking with him for a couple of hours, police were able to get him out of there, take him into custody. among the charges, first and second degree murder. richard harriday of frederick, maryland, arrested last night after shots fired in that area the one person was shot and killed. it's 6:34. we're learning more about the house fire in lorton that claimed the life of a little boy. fairfax county fire says 5-year-old stellen lutino died in the house fire on tuesday night. investigators say he started the fire while playing with a lighter in the garage. his mother and two neighbors, a retired firefighter and an off duty firefighter tried to rescue him, but the flames made it impossible. disappointed we couldn't get him. we tried at best we can. i really, really feel bad about his mom because she had to stand in the front yard and watch. it's tere.

the officer said he heard the teen say i'll shoot you. the teen says he said i'll sue you. we know but the disaster that devastated a community. >> now a montgomery county police officer is being honored for his heroism. eight people died when the flower branch apartments sxloeed last august. jeffrey hughes worked off duty patrol at the apartments. hughes res key ud a family from the fire and collapsed building. >> it's sad because there are people there that i've seen on a daily by basis. i'm there to help them. and, you know, i'll never see them again. >> hughes used keys to the front entrances of the apartment building to get in, pull fire alarms and knock on doors to help the firefighters on the scene.

we are staying on top of the breaking news this morning at 6:45. there's been a police-involved shooting. this is on talbert street at talbert terrace in southeast washington. >> megan mcgrath joins us live from the scene to explain what led to this shooting. megan. good morning, guys. the scene is now clear. the cruiser is gone. but police still looking for the suspect involved here. it was a little before 4:00 in the morning. a u.s. police officer made a traffic stop, pulled over a dark colod

and talbert terrace. as that officer got out of his cruiser, was approaching that vehicle, that is when the driver of the charger put it in reverse. the officer was struck as well as the cruiser. now, at that point, the officer fired his weapon. it's unknown whether the driver of that charger was hit in that gunfire. they then left the scene, sped off and are still on the loose. anyone with information, you're asked to come forward. as for the police officers, he is being treated for a leg injury at an area hospital, but is expected to be okay. back to you guys in the studio. >> megan, thank you. we're staying on top of breaking news and on that multi vehicle crash in southeast. we just received word that all northbound lanes on 295 are open. news 4's justin finch is on the road live for us. justin, are you noticing progress, too? >> we are seeing progress out here on traffic moving in all three lanes.
