morris and holbrook in northeast d.c. right now we're working to try to get information on what happened to the suspect and how all this went down. we have two crews, shomari stone and jackie bensen, both headed to the scene. we're going to keep bringing you updates as soon as we get them. chopper 4 over the scene of a fatal crash in reston tonight. a driver hit a woman who was walking along reston parkway and dulles drive. the driver did stay on the scene and will be okay. the results are in for some 200 women who had to be retested for the zika virus in the district after a botched batch of testing. seven more pregnant women who were told they were not infected with zika have learned their tests returned false negatives. one of them is now a confirmed case of zika. the other six not yet

pregnant women in the district who you were given incorrect test results to nine. there's a race to develop a vaccine to protect us from the zika virus. only on news4, the top infectious disease specialist tells the vaccine would trigger an immune response to the mosquito's saliva. the vaccine is in the early stages of clinical trials, but if successful it could be life saving. >> interesting, novel very creative concept. >> if that works, that would be -- >> that would be a game changer if it works, but we're still early on in the trials. >> nih is involved and moving ahead with more than

dozen zika vaccines. it's an all too familiar story around our region. hundreds of local families say they're about to get priced out of their homes. tonight they protested the new development that's about to replace their apartment building. as jackie bensen reports, the developer is promising to help, but tenants say that's not enough. >> reporter: protesters filled the plaza in front of one judiciary square just before the d.c. zone commission hearing. they claimed an 80-year-old apartment complex will displace families who will find it hard to find affordable housing. she's lived in brooklyn manor for 35 years. she believes the project will

>> we have grandparents raising children and they need a place to live. our children are becoming depressed. they don't know where they're going. they don't know where they're going to live. >> reporter: the protesters later packed the zoning commission hearing room as mid city financial corporation presented plans for the project which will be called ria. >> there's been a lot of misinformation that's been reported about the project. what we're trying to do is find a way to do this redevelopment and bring along all of our existing residents. we got our initial approval back in 2015 and the concept of the plan was that all existing residents in good standing would be allowed to stay and we would build the affordable housing first to house those residents. >> reporter: the project also calls for plans to redevelop the nearby brentwood village shopping center. police arrested several people for the murder of a young prince william county man and investigators tell us his case is connected to another murder.

now in custody for the death of a 21-year-old. the two men you see pictured here are charged with murder. the body was found last month near the banks of the potomac. he had angered ms-13 gang members by falsely boasting he had a leadership role in that gang. they decided to punish him by killing him according to police. the body of 15-year-old alexandra reyes was found in springfield. ten people are in custody in connection with her death. there are ms-13 implications there as well. parents, students, school leaders, and taxpayers in montgomery county are trying to figure out how to deal with the growing and critical problem of school overcrowding. tonight they met to talk about one plan that calls for reopening woodward high school in rockville. it's now the site of

middle school. study groups will also look into moving alternative and vocational programs to commercial buildings. i'm chris lawrence back at the live desk updating you on that breaking news we've been following throughout this newscast. we can now tell you that a suspect has also been shot in d.c. this is part of this incident in which two d.c. police officers have been shot. a suspect, an adult male, has also been shot in that same confrontati confrontation. let's give you an idea of where this is happening. we know all of this went down at the corner of morse and holbrook streets. the first calls we started hearing came in around 10:40 tonight. within the last 25 minutes or so, we started hearing chatter about an offi i

non-life-threatening injuries. we'll update you as we hear more here on news4. the george washington parkway is back open tonight after a tractor-trailer crash shut it down. investigators tell us the mail carrier truck was northbound before it hit a tree before the cia overpass. trucks are not usually allowed on the parkway. authorities tell us the driver did not have permission to be on that road. graffiti similar to the vandalism on our national mall has now popped up in boston. u.s. park police are trying to see if there's a connection. there is the message captured in boston just like the graffiti in d.c. it's written in black permanent marker and appears to reference a conspiracy theory with the

police, that security guard was back in the soviet union. it turns out he was more than just a security guard. >> he was a fast rising officer of the kgb. >> reporter: in 1985 after being diagnosed with cancer, he returned to the united states, but this time as a defector. >> he had knowledge of a lot of kgb operations in the united states, so of course we were especially interested from a counterintelligence standpoint to debrief him thoroughly and we did. >> reporter: but his defection didn't last long. one night after having dinner at this restaurant, he told his cia security officer that he was stepping outside for some fresh air. >> when he came out of the restaurant and walked down the street maybe a block or so, he was likely picked up by the kgb at that point.

mark, what can you tell us? >> reporter: yeah, good evening. i can tell you the two police officers involved in that shooting in northeast were both brought here to medstar hospital. we believe at least one of those officers was actually transported in the back of a police car to get here to medstar. sources are telling us that one of those officers has a non-life-threatening injury to his leg, but the other officer right now is undergoing surgery. he had an entrance wound, but no exit wound. right now he's in surgery being operated on. we don't know the extent of that and we don't know his condition. one officer with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. the other officer right now in surgery. mayor bowser and the police chief are on their way to the scene of this shooting in northeast where they'll talk to reporters and give them the very latest on that information. but as you can see here live at medstar, you can see police are already showing
