are built to fear the worst and i believe they left here feeling better about the conditions. megan, you're in the neighborhood where the shooting happened. run us through what we know. >> reporter: well, police are still trying to piece a lot of those details together. as you can see behind me, investigators still on the scene. they have the area surrounding the intersection of holobrook and morse street still corps donned off here. here's what we know at this point. it happened around 10:40 last night. officers with a crime suppression team were in the area for shots fired earlier. they were at the intersection when shots rang out again. two officers were hit. the suspect was killed. investigators also did find a weapon believed to be the suspect's on the scene. this all comes just hours after the mayor named interim police chief as her pick for the permanent job.

situation. >> this is just unbelievable. i was actually at my computer sending out a message to my constituents about the appointment and urging them to continue to work with us and the police to really cement that strong partnership. i went to my bathroom and i heard gunshots through the skylights. >> reporter: the two officers who were shot, they were in uniform and we are hoping to get an update at some point later on today to get more detail about exactly what happened, what led up to the shooting itself. certainly investigators will get more information when they're able to talk to those two wounded police officers. back to you. >> any indication how long the officers will be on the scene? >> reporter: at this point i think it's going to be a while. we still have investigators here. we saw them not long ago still continuing to gather evidence and they certainly want to wait

killed with nerve agents. you see that white shirt or blouse there, it looks like somebody is reaching over somebody. well, the second thing here, because of that, the airport is now being decontaminated. malaysian police say one suspect in the poisoning got sick and threw up after the attack. kim jong nam is the half brother of kim jong un, the leader of north korea. two women were accused of wiping that toxin on his face. several other suspects have also been arrested. 4:35 now and today president trump is set to take the stage at the conservative political action conference or cpac. the white house has been well represented at that conference. we've heard from chief of staff reince priebus and we'll be joined for a preview of what's

graffiti similar to the vandalism on the national mall has popped up in boston and u.s. park police are trying to see if there's a connection. this is the message captured in boston. just like the graffiti here in d.c. it's written in black permanent marker and appears to reference a conspiracy theory with the phrase jackie shot jfk. the lincoln memorial, the washington monument, the world war ii memorial and the d.c. memorial were vandalized over president's day weekend. >> and that trip to work or school this summer will cost you more. >> metro board chair jack evans is backing a proposal that would raise fares and reduce service. it's not the news riders wants to

he goes to school in montgomery county. so far he has not had any problems in school and the school system released a statement saying their guidelines protect student privacy and confidentiality. >> when i told them that i wanted to transition they told me sure, just use whatever bathroom that you're comfortable with. >> he and his mom hope things do not change now that the trump administration lifted federal guidelines saying transgender students should be allowed to use bathrooms and locker rooms associated with their chosen identity. well, parents, students, school leaders and taxpayers in montgomery county are trying to figure out how to deal with a critical problem of school overcrowding. they met last night to talk about one plan that calls for reopening woodward high school. it is now the site of a middle school.

we hosted our black history month celebration outside our studios. >> it was a great night. >> so we helped honor four recipients with news 4 working for the community awards for doing things such as working with young athletes and helping with organ donations. this was an incredible musician who performed at the reception. you remember him and how great he was? >> benjamin and then his mom. do you remember his mom? >> i do. >> his manager even maybe. >> good morning and thank you for inviting us over to the county. it is a story we just covered last june, a tour bus crashed on the gw parkway. >> that accident killed one person and injured more than a dozen others.

one of the people who was hurt lost her legs but as news 4 reports, she did not lose her hope. >> this was the scene when that bus flipped over. it was carrying a group of chinese tourists. one of them lost her legs in the accident. when we last saw her they were pushing through a tough time, but they had a dream. >> walk again. use her legs. >> that was about three months ago. >> fast forward to now, she hasn't given up and for the first time she's finally getting up. >> but she's not one to stand still. a few moments later taking off on her first steps. she says walking is still tough for her, but she's happy. >> when i saw my mother walking on to the floor, i'm so happy for her. >> also there, chris dodge. four months ago he was a total stranger who took them into his home. now he says they're like family. >> all those things we've
