let's bring in justin finch, he's live at the hospital center with more on who these -- who's been visiting these officers. >> reporter: we've seen several fellow officers show up to show their support, many happy to hear these officers are stable and are on track to recover and among the well wishers we saw here have been the mayor. just after 12:30 this morning we did see her arrive here at the hospital, spending a moment with officers gathered outside before going in to meet with those two wounded. now, acting police chief stopped by as well to visit and both officers reportedly suffering lower body wounds here after being shot last night. we hear at least one was brought here in a police cruiser backseat. one officer going right into surgery, possibly to remove a bullet. the other, we hear, may be recovering from a leg wound. we've also learne

union treasurer the officers are stable and are now in good spirits. a relief for those who love them. >> thank you. and we continue our coverage now with this breaking news. >> megan, run us through exactly what we know happened here. >> reporter: well, i can tell you at this point that many of the crime scene techs have left at this point. basically we're in a holding pattern waiting for the sun to come up so that investigators can take one more sweep for evidence in the light of day and so we're waiting for that to happen. all the roads around this intersection, ho intersection. it happened around 10:40 last night. officers with the crime suppression team were in the area for shots that had been fired earlier. they were at this intersection when shots rang out again. two officers were hit. the suspect was

now, police say they did find a gun that they believe belongs to the suspect, that gun found here on the scene. now anc commissioner heard the shots and she was upset to hear about what happened. >> i turned on the news and it said two officers were shot. i'm shocked, i'm disgusted. this is just unbelievable. and certainly investigators eager to talk to the police officers to better piece together what happened here. we don't have a lot of details about what happened in the moments just prior to the shooting. >> do you know anything about the suspect? >> reporter: we don't know anything about the suspect at this point. we have asked questions of the acting chief, but still very early, still a lot of things being sorted out at this point. >> all right. thanks so much.

shooting we're following this morning. the shooting involving these officers brings the total number of people shot in d.c. last night to seven. four people were hurt in three shootings on wheeler road southeast. the shootings happened within two hours of each other. one witness we spoke with said he heard eight gunshots. police have not released any information on the victims or the suspects. 5:07 right now. new developments about that killing in malaysia. >> the deadly nerve agent used to kill the half brother of the leader. >> this is now 11 days after the attack that we're learning two big things in this investigation. the first say that kim jong nam was killed with nerve agents. this is something that's been labeled by the u.n. as a weapon of mass destruction and because of that, the airport is now being decontaminated. malaysian police say one of the suspects in the poisoning got sick and threw up after the

of kim jong un, the leader of north korea. two women accused of wiping the toxin on his face. several other sus speblpects hao been arrested. today president trump is set to take the stage at cpac. the white house has been well represented at this conference. so far we've heard from steve ban non, reince priebus and vice president mike pence. all eyes are back on the eagle cam this morning at the national arboretum. that's because the first lady and the president are expecting two eagles. the first one we told you about four days ago. now the countdown to hatching has begun. everyone will be on hatch watch the last week of march and you

we have breaking news this morning at 5:12. two d.c. police officers are in the hospital after being shot in northeast washington. the shooting happened just before 11:00 p.m. near the intersection of hol brook and morse streets

loop at gw parkway, still have that crash on the right lane. still have this problem as well. southbound bw at 197 with some lanes blocked there so that is causing a bit of delay there. 66 and 95 overall looking good. we'll take a look at 270 coming up. >> want to give you an update on that breaking news we're following this morning. two officers in the hospital after being shot by a suspect in the trinidad section of northeast. we're joined live now outside the hospital with more on their conditions. >> reporter: we now hear those officers are stable and are in good spirits. they were brought here awake and able to breathe late last night after being shot. they suffered lower body wounds from active police chief we know overnight the chief did show up here to comfort them as well as

the mayor mplts the. they have a long road of recovery ahead. more coming up later in the hour. thank you. we could see video of how this all happened. erika gonzales is at the live desk with details. >> well, all d.c. police officers now use body cameras. the acting chief says the force has more body cameras than any other department in the country. there are 2,600 cameras. when officers respond to calls they are supposed to turn them on. so there is a good chance there is video from one of the officers who was hurt overnight. we'll just have to wait and see. back to you. 5:15 now. acting d.c. police chief had a rough first night on the job. two of his officers were shot and a suspect was killed and four people were shot on the same street. he's not officially the chief of police yet. the council still has to approve him and that's going to h

right now at 5:28 we're staying on top of breaking news we've been working on through the night. two d.c. police officers are in the hospital after they were both shot. >> overnight we learned that they are both listed in

the hospital where those officers are being treated right now. >> so what do we know about how these officers are doing this morning? >> reporter: well, aaron, eun, from police sources we are hearing these officers are in stable condition and are in good spirits as well. we've also had several visitors overnight as well as the mayor and acting police chief. it was just after midnight or so that we saw mayor bowser arrive. she had a moment outside with officers here and then went inside to meet with those two wounded officers. then overnight came a tweet from the police chief saying that the officers are stable and in good spirits as well. both officers did suffer lower body injuries. we hear that one was brought here in a police cruiser backseat. another officer went right into surgery, possibly to dislodge a bullet. the other, we hear, may be recovering now from a l

shootings police have responded to in our area in recent days. >> i can tell you that we have had a number of shootings across the city the last couple of days. our officers have been responding to that very aggressively. we had gunshots here earlier this evening. we have patrols in the area and as a result of this incident two after our officers are suffering a gunshot wound. >> and this morning we now know those two officers who are now recovering will also speak with detectives about the circumstances surrounding their shooting. we are live outside med star. back in to you. >> thank you. we continue our team coverage with megan mcgrath in northeast d.c. >> you're in the neighborhood where the shooting happened. tell us what you know at this point. >> reporter: well, at this point many of the crime scene techs have left the area. they'll be coming back later on this morning to take a

needs to be addressed and this is not just a police matter. it's a community matter. we want everyone that hears anything about this to resolve immediately to lock arms with the police. >> reporter: and the two police officers who were wounded, they were in uniform when this happened. we are hoping to get an update later on today to get some more information, specifically about exactly what happened before these shots were fired. back to you in the studio. >> obviously that area behind you has been blocked off. lots of cars i can see there. do we know what level after access residents have no this neighborhood? to their vehicles and such? >> reporter: there really is no access for residents and in fact, we've seen a number of people come and try to get across the police line. they want to get their cars which are parked along the curbs here and they're not being allowed to go in. so it's going to be a while yet. basically they're holding the scene, police are, until the sun s

you made a promise to protect the lgbtq community. the change has some students in our area worried. this school year, a student identified himself as a transgender male. so far he says he hasn't had any problems in school and the school system released a statement saying it protects the goid lines and the confidentiality. >> they told me, sure, just use whatever bathroom you're comfortable with. >> he and his mom hope things do not change now that the trump administration lifted federal guidelines say that transgender students should be allowed to use public school bathrooms and locker rooms matching their chosen gender identity. his mom says president trump would change his mind if he actually spoke to
