temperatures by noontime should be climbing into the mid-h40s around much of the region. by the time mid afternoon rolls around, we'll be hovering around 50 degrees. a little bit of a blustery wind that will diminish by late afternoon. up and down changes for the week ahead. a look at that this half hour. >> thank you, tom. we're following developments right now out of prince george's county where police are trying to figure out who shot two men outside a sports bar in oxon hill. it happened on livingston road. police say both men were conscious and taken to the hospital. also following a developing story out of new orleans where chaos broke out during a mardi gras parade. a suspected drunk driver in custody after that person plowed into a crowd, injuring at least 28 people. emergency crews say five people were in gued

none appeared to be life threatening. police say the pickup truck hit other vehicles then veered into the crowd just before 7:00 last night. the victims ranged in age from 3 years old to 40 years old. meanwhile in germany, a rogue driver killed one man, hurt two other people after steering into a crowd outside a bakery. that suspect was shot after his arrest and has serious injury. police don't believe this was a terror related attack, but the driver's emotional state and motives were not known. the suspect was seen getting out of the car holding a knife following the crash. virginia governor terry mcauliffe is expected to meet with homeland security secretary john kelly today. >> this comes after mcauliffe voiced i had outrage after i.c.e. arrested several latino men who left a church hypothermia shelter earlier this month. derrick ward joins us live with more. >> reporter: hey. indeed, that is the venue for this meetingha

governor's association. he requested this meeting after that i.c.e. action we talked about. it all stems from a raid outside the rising hope mission church in alexandria. that church also serves as a hypothermia shelter. earlier this month, several men leaving that shelter were detained and some arrested by i.c.e. agents. there is an i.c.e. policy called the sensitive location policy which says agents are not to target places like schools, churches, and hospitals because of the sensitive nature of those locations. apparently this raid took place, or these arrests and detentions took place just across the street from that sensitive location. now, the governor sent off a letter asking for some clarification on how these policies would work here in virginia and who's authorizing them. he is worried about what effect this will have. we rd

himself, never had a chance. it comes as perez faces a challenge in uniting the party and winning elections across the country. nbc's chris pollone has more. >> reporter: after two ballots in atlanta, members of the democratic national committee chose a former obama cabinet member as their new party chair. he's former labor secretary tom perez, a favorite of the party establishment. he beat minnesota congressman keith ellison, backed by the party's more liberal faction, by 35 votes. immediately, perez moved to unite the party, naming ellison deputy chair. ellison quickly embraced the unity message. >> if you're wearing a keith t-shirt, or any t-shirt, i'm asking you to give everything you've got to support chairman perez. >> reporter: perez has a tall task ahead, replenishing the party's dwindling cash supply and trying to elect democrats to governor's offices, state legislatures, and congress

off on the horizon. today our sunset will be just before 6:00 p.m. every day we're getting later and later sunsets, earlier and earlier sunrises. sunrise on the equinox is at 7:20. that's after we spring forward on march 12th. right now temperatures are hovering near 40 degrees across most of maryland, virginia, and west virginia. right near the bay as well, right around 40 degrees. those winds are still a little gusty. it feels chillier than that. we'll stay breezy and chilly over the next few hours. up near 50 degrees by mid afternoon. then by 6:00 p.m., back down to mid-40s. getting cold by late evening. by 10:00 p.m., back to near 40 degrees. a much lighter wind overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning. so for the monday morning commute, waiting at the bus stop, waiting for metro, you'll need to wear your warm winter coat. we'll be in the 30s tomorrow morning with a light wind. we'll have

from earlier thisning the writing, quote, the race for dnc chairman was, of course, totally rigged. bernie's guy, like bernie himself, never had a chance. clinton demanded perez. the moderator of "meet the press," chuck todd, going to join us now to break this all down. another back and forth between the president and a person who you said is now elevated. >> look, it's good politics for trump. i see what he's doing. sanders supporters were pretty important to him. either those who didn't show up to vote in places like wisconsin or michigan, or crossed the aisle and voted for him. he'd love to keep that divide going. i think tom perez is very aware of it. it's why the first thing he did was make keith ellison the deputy chair. i'm sure it was perhaps a quid pro quo on that, no matter who won. look, donald trump is probably the best tool tom perez has to unite the party. the bigger challenge he's going to have is how does he break the

institutional hierarchy of the party that is organizationally almost structured as a presidential party, totally focused on a cult of personality. that's what's missing. the republican party was about the republican party for the longest time. guess what, they won a whole bunch of little races. democrats have been losing a whole burch of little races. that's their charge. >> sounds like there's still a divide within their own party that he's going to have to deal with also. new polls that just came out. you have new numbers you're breaking down. they include how people approve or disapprove or think of president trump and the job he's doing. he's at 44%. what do you make of that? >> well, look, it's a stunning result in this respect. this is the first -- it took george w. bush 41 months to basically see his job approval rating flip upside down, where more people felt negative than positive. it took barack obama i think 37 months to do that. this is the first month

on one hasn't, you can see that's bad news for him. but then you look at sort of how his base is solidly behind him. the republicans are for him 86%, the democrats against him 86%. independent voters are almost ten points in the negative on his job approval. that's the -- when you make the decision to double down on your base, as he's done time and again with the media bashing and all that stuff, there is going to be a consequence. the consequence is alienating middle of the road voters. that's the difference between getting your policies in place and not getting your policies in place. he's g >> he's got a big week coming up. >> the biggest thing he's got to do as leader of the republican party and president, he's got to give those republicans some details on where he wants to go on health care. it comes up in my interview with tom cotton this moin

"moonlight" is a rival for best picture, as is "manchester by the sea." there's also late momentum with "hidden figures." it scored a major win at the s.a.g. awards. >> usually the movie with the most nominations wins. as we saw last year with "spotlight," it's not always the case. >> reporter: after last year's controversy, seven performers of color are among this year's nominees. >> it's definitely a step in the right direction. >> reporter: "moonlight" is favored for best supporting actor, while denzel washington is neck and neck with casey affleck for best actor. >> there's something to be said for how much the academy loves the performances in that film. >> reporter: there's less doubt about supporting actress, dominated throughout awards season by viola davis.
