sessions to resign. the search for human remains in a local park will puck up again tomorrow. how long police say they'll continue to search. nunch >> announcer: news4 at 11:00 brilliance with breaking news. on i-270 just south of frederick, maryland, all northbound lanes are shut down near baker valley road south of the monocacy river. >> the frederick news post tweeted this photo of the scene. you can see one of the cars mangled off the shoulder. we're trying to confirm how serious the injuries are here. expect northbound 270 to be closed for some time in this area. good evening. now to those storms. they only lasted minutes but the cleanup will last for days and weeks for some homeowners in our area. >> tonight, the winds are still gusting and there are more big changes coming our way. check this out, doug is tracking snow that could impact our

>> it was a huge bang. >> reporter: heavy rains and strong wind nailed montgomery county. look at this house in silver spring. >> it was a big gust. when the storm came through, i bet you it was 50 miles per hour. >> reporter: on canal road, a tree fell near this car on foxhall road that caused the fire to plow into a pickup truck. several homes were hit by trees and a truck driver who was trapped by fallen wires. firefighters rescued him. the storm knocked out karen angstrom's power. she has a sarcastic response. >> it was a fun afternoon in kensington. >> reporter: not fun indeed. you can see a live picture of the roof, a large hole in that tree going right into the living room. the home owner is not here. neighbors tell me she's at a

"the washington post" just reported sessions had several contacts with a russian official that he did not disclose in his confirmation hearing. sessions was asked if he had been in contact with anyone from the russian government about the election before or after election day. sessions responded "no." but "the post" reports sessions spoke with sergey kislyak in july. >> kislyak, one

sent reports to moscow detailing his discussions with sessions. kislyak is trying to probably get information from sessions about what he knows about the posture of the trump campaign at that stage. >> sessions' spokeswoman told "the post" there was nothing misleading about his answer because his meetings were in his role on the armed services committee and not on the committee. democrats were already insisting he recuse himself from the investigation into the trump campaign's contacts with russia. now there are calls for him to step down. at the live desk, i'm chris lawrence. the search for human remains in a fairfax county park will pick up again tomorrow when the sun comes up. >> investigators spent the day looking for remains after police got a tip. >> news4's jackie bensen joins us live in the

section of fairfax county with new details. jackie? >> reporter: jim, we don't have a lot of details about exactly what's going on here. what we do know is alarming. into the evening, fairfax county police officers continued to restrict access to homes run park at crater place in the alexandria section of the county. neighbors watched with great concern. >> this kind of activity you don't see around this neighborhood. it's a lot of family-orientated. >> reporter: detectives, along with the fbi and local law enforcement partners, spent the day on a grim search here. this white tent was set up in the wooded area. it was surrounded by crime scene tape. >> we don't even know if a crime has been committed. we're working off a tip that there may be bodies in the park. we don't know of connections with previous cases we've been investigating, but preliminarily, we believe this may have a gang connection. >> reporter: a

was done at lemon park. but nothing was found there. police in several jurisdictions made multiple arrests of suspected ms 13 gang members in connection with the january murder of a 21-year-old fairfax county man. police linked that slaying to the murder of a 15-year-old from gaithersburg, found dead in a virginia industrial park on february 11th. police say they may be on the scene here for another couple of days. live in fairfax county, jackie bensen, news4. >> thank you, jackie. we just learned the name of a woman killed while walking o " i-270 this morning. she was hit near the clapper road interchange. police say they was walking in a travel lane at the time. they're still trying to figure out why. police have arrested a woman for her alleged

house party murder of a man in arlington. but they're still looking for the shooter. monique williams is charged with accessory after the fact in the killing of michael gray. she's being held without bond tonight. investigators tell us jason allen johnson is the triggerman. they consider him armed and dangerous. johnson is accused of shooting gray last month after a dispute at a housewarming party on north 29th street in arlington's williamsburg neighborhood. passion on both sides of the debate tonight over whether hyattsville, maryland should be a sanctuary city. >> the hyattsville council is considering whether to make hyattsville a place where police don't ask about immigration status and where the city won't assist the federal government in deporting undocumented immigrants. awarded biden the presidential medal of freedom, calling him an extraordinary man with an extraordinary career in public service. the accountants responsible for that oscars flub sunday night are now under their employer's protection but they will never work the oscars again. pricewaterhouse cooper says the two are not going anywhere. the company is providing protection for them because pictures of their houses and other personal information appeared online, after one of them screwed up and handed the wrong envelope to the presenters announcing best picture. they used to be intuitive and easy to use. but now the stylish interiors of some new car models are leading to problems with the gearshifts. >> they might look better but consumer reports says these new shifters can be confusing and potentially dangerous. consumer reporter susan hogan shows us.

>> reporter: recently we reported on a recall involving gearshift confusion. fiat-chrysler recalled cars and suvs because the gearshift makes drivers forget to put the vehicle in park before getting out. for decades cars with automatic transmissions had a simple shifter like this one. but car makers say new designs can set their models apart or offer a touch of luxury. but consumer reports warns those new designs can be complicated and even counterintuitive. >> the problem with these unconventional gear selectors is that they make it hard to consistently pick the correct gear, especially park. in the worst case that means the car could roll away. i'm right now in an merced mer z mercedes-benz. the shifter is a mono stable electronic shifter. that means no matter what

returns to the center. it makes it hard to see what gear you're in. to putting it park, there's a small button that completely blocks the steering wheel. >> reporter: another problem, on some models it's possible for the car to roll after the driver gets out. but some manufacturers have build in safeguards. ford, lincoln, acura, honda, gm, now automatically return to park if the engine is on or if the engine is shut off to prevent roll aways. consumer reports is deducting points for cars that don't have built-in fail-saves that prevent roll away accidents. if you already own a car with one of these shifters, consumer reports recommends you always double-check when it's in park and use the emergency brake any time you are going to step out of the car. back to you.

here on out. we weren't the only ones with wind damage today. check this out in baltimore, strong wind tore a satellite dish right off the social security administration building. glass windows on the office tower shattered. employees had to shelter in place and were sent home early. one person was injured. >> a lot of damage in a fast-moving storm, it came and went in a hurry. >> it was amazing how fast the storms moved, 50, 60 miles an hour, in some cases 70 miles an hour. across the southeast, 500 reports of extremely high, severe level winds across the region today. we saw them all across our area. before that, though, look at the high temperatures we saw. 80 for the first time in dc. that is a record, tying the old record set back in 1976. 80 in annapolis. 79 in quantico and

fredericksburg. the interesting thing, quantico, 79, that was the high temperature. that was also the highest wind gust reported, actually 78 reported today because of those strong storms that came on through. now behind it, look at this, we're still on the mild side. no no normally when storms go through, the temperatures start to cool off. you can tell the southwesterly, southerly component shows you the front is still back to the west. 62 in fredericksburg, 61 in g t gaithersburg at this hour. when the cold front comes through, that's when we'll start to see the wind pick up. wind advisories until 10:00 tomorrow. already seeing winds gusting to 40 miles per hour back towards winchester and around the martinsberg area. even down around culpeper or fredericksburg, you're still going to see gusty winds there during the afternoon. again, winds could gust up to 50 miles per hour. could be more trees down and could be more power outages.

i do not expect that to be widespread. but it could happen across our region. right now, tracking that front. here it is, trying to make its way across our region. we're looking at some showers with this. over towards leesburg, parts of loudoun county, gaithersburg, howard county, i'll show you where the heaviest showers are right along route 50 here, coming through the middleburg area. these will come right across leesburg down 15 over towards dulles airport in the next 15 to 20 minutes. that's with the front. behind the front, notice the snow. we get colder behind the front as well. take a look at the numbers. right now we're in the 60s. but 39 in columbus, ohio. 44 in pittsburgh. you see the colder air trying to move on in here. and tomorrow will be a colder day and a windy day too. make sure you bundle up tomorrow. tomorrow it's all about the wind. friday, as i've been talking about, notice the snow back to the west, back towards the front again. friday, we could have snow around our area during parts of the day.
