breaking news, an update to a story right here on news 4 yesterday. fairfax county police were searching for human remains bury the at the park. >> they have found them. julie carey is there in holmes run park where police are now holding a news conference. that should be starting here in the next couple of minutes. so julie carey will be there for us. she's gathering information, she's going to join us live a little bit later in the show. >> yesterday in our broadcast, megan mcgrath was out there on the scene and she was showing that video of what seemed to be a tent that officers had over some piece of

found. because officers have said this investigation may very well be gang related, i went ahead and shared a post, an interview from david culver on my facebook page when he interviewed the head of the northern virginia regional gang task force. because this may be gang related, i went ahead and put that up there for you. but if you'll remember, we've been following just a string of what we have seen as a lot of gang activity and bodies that have surfaced in northern virginia. believe that news conference has started we're going to go ahead and listen in. >> special agent in charge for the washington office of the fbi. special agent timothy slater. we're here at hoemsz run park today to announce late last night the fairfax county police department in coordination with other law enforcement

did discover the remains of two people. knows remains are now at the medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine the identification of those remains. once those remains are identified, the next of kin will be notified and once that is all complete, we will then update the public and let you know other developments within the case. this event is tragic and we want the community members of fairfax county to know that we won't rest until the perpetrators of this crime are brought to justice. our gang unit received this information on a tip and they coordinated with our major crimes division and have worked tirelessly to find these victims. at this time i'd like to introduce the chief of police, colonel edward c rossler jr. to discuss other issues about regional gang problems. >> i believe the chief of police is about to speak. you're looking

mentioning it was last night that the fairfax county police department from a tip that regional gang task force had received was searching that park and they did in fact find the remains of two people. those remains have been sent off to have an autopsy. once they are identify and next of kin can be notified we'll get more information on who the individuals were. julie carey is live there and will listen in to the press conference and i think we'll have an update for her in the next several minutes. switching gears now and turning to a developing story in maryland, a poe tomorrow ak high school student killed yesterday. justin finch is live in oxen hill where this happened. >> reporter: prince george's county police have just identified the victim in this

holiday here. his school is a short walk from where we are right now, about 15 minutes and students tell us that yesterday as we were walking home from school when they heard about this shooting and this morning prince george's county are telling us they are pursuing a shooting suspect and also a motive. >> at the potomac high, a somber start, in the midst of student dropoff, an 11th grader still shaken by the death of her classmate. >> it's going to be a rough day. >> reporter: that 17-year-old boy gunned downty southview apartment complex near her school was a friend of her good friend, shot neighbors say in the area of this playground. he died a short time later. the loss for many hits close to home. >> my sister called me and she was like oh, my god there was a shooting. >> reporter: cristina recalling the frantic phone call from her younger sister thursday afternoon. her sister she says would normally wal t

but not today. >> i'm concerned. that's why i took her to school today. normally i go my own way to work. let me drop you off, even though we live right up the street. let me drop you off, you never know. >> reporter: after the gunfire, a woman weighed down by grief, the aftermath of a young life lost. >> reporter: that victim has been identified as 17-year-old jaquan holiday, gunned down here at the southview apartments, police are offering a reward for information leading to arrest in this case $25,000 and the prince george's county schools have had grief counselors and stepped up security the day after the shooting. justin finch, news 4, back into you. >> some of you were affected by the snow showers in our area this morning. there was a crash just above 270. many also had to scrape the flakes off their cars heading out to work this morning.

issues via a personal aol account. the vmt's office says pence complied with indiana mail and all government e-mails were archives. during the 2016 campaign, pence criticized hillary clinton's use of i private e-mail server while she was secretary of state. this year there's a call for a one day strike called stay day without a woman. organizers are telling supporters to wear red to show solidarity or spend money at small businesses owned by women and other minorities. women are being encouraged to take the day off from paid and unpaid labor. organizers of the women's march on washington are planning the day without a woman common stra common strags. >> in northern virginia, fairfax county police are identifying the officer who shot a man near herndon, lance guken berger

dudsa who later died. he shot his brothers and refused police orders to drop a knife he was holding at the same time smoke was coming from inside the home and another man was trapped inside. the department is supposed to release the name of an officer involved in a shooting within ten days unless there is a threat to the officer or their family. a judge recently ruled there was no threat. officer guckenberger is a 16 year veteran. used deadly force in 2005, 2010, both incidents were made public and determined to be a lawful use of force. switching gears, costco shaking things up a bit. >> finding out why you might soon have to pay a little more for your groceries. >> reporter: within the hour investigators found a body in the burned out rubble of this rockville house, a live report coming up.

to get on to 109. two vehicles involved in this collision, we understand one person was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. collision reconstruction units there on the scene will keep you updated as things progress there. right now terrifying images of a house fire in rockville. new adm at midday, someone died the fire. megan mcgrath is live at the scene. >> reporter: good morning. this fire broke out after 10:00 last night. as you can see behind me here, it did tremendous damage. there's nothing left of this home on willow lane. the man who lives here has been unaccounted since the fire. investigators have confirmed they have found the victim buried in the debris. these pictures tweeted by the fire department show the intensity of the blaze. when rescue crews arrived the home on willow lane

hi, julie. >> reporter: hey there, the police chief and the fbi just wrapped up a news conference. i want to direct your attention to the area back in the woods there. detectives were just back there taking down red crime scene tape and that is where two sets of human remains were found. we've been reporting to you all week about the search under way back in those woods here in holmes run park. the chief says both of those individuals believed to be victims of homicide, both of those deaths tied to gang activity. now the chief says the bodies were buried about 300 yards back into the woods. this is the very same park where two bodies were unearthed in 2014 but arrests and convictions have come in connection with those cases. the bodies found in holmes run park this week mark the third and fourth murder victims found in less than two months. victims of a spate of gang violence carried out

ms-13. it was the body of sosa rivas found near the river and not far from here last month in another area in springfield, the body of a missing gaithersburg girl was also found, reyes. ten people have been arrested in connection with reyes' others and six others with the prince william county murder. the bodies have been taken to the medical examiner's office and the police saying they are determined to find the killers and put a dent in this spike of gun violence. >> we need concerned parents and community members to report to us any sign of gang activity, recruitment, different behaviors in their children. these are teenagers, young adults that are mainly involved in this and this is the youth of tomorrow that's being just eroded and we need to getem

miles per hour, it's still going to be breezy on saturday but we'll have plenty of sunshine and dry. quiet and chilly as we get into sunday. then we warm up from there. we have a few snow showers and they are now past 301. route 4 you could have blinding snow, some of these darker purples are more heavy and rain showers mixed in as well. those will continue to move down towards eastern shore but we've got a lot of snow that can still pass through our region. it's just going to move right on through. we're not expecting any accumulations, we're expecting just some passing snow showers. and winds, my goodness, those winds gusting up to 25 miles an hour. that means we've got windchills and temperatures will top out low to mid-40s but windchills only in the 20s and 30s. that is it. so the winds pick up as we continue through the morning. we're looking at windy conditions with a feels like of 20s and 30s, same deal tomorrow, we'll be breezy with the windchills in the 20s and 30s, if you're hea

>> we're talking about animal control. one thing, the timing is pretty good, when i was walking my dog this woman was pretty frantic, lost her dog. still has a leash attached to it, then today i saw posters up, lost dog. what do you do if you find a stray dog somewhere or someone's missing pet? >> when animal control finds a dog, the first thing we want to do is scan for a microchip. that should have the owner's information attached to it and if it has a microchip, the shelter will hold a dog for seven days. and if we also make an attempt to contact the owner as well. if the animal does not have any type of i.d., no microchip, i.d. caller, we hold it for five days. >> so we need to call animal control if we find a stray dog or cat or anything like that? >> yes. >> what about as far as when animals go into animal control, what happens in that process of them being there?

extension 1. we're open 24/7. there's always an officer on duty, we respond to all kinds of emergency and deer hit by car deer is always a priority. >> they come out and take care of the issue however that may be. >> yes. >> as far as the time of year, is this the time of year where we run into more deer, we see more deer out there? it does seem like a lot? >> the time they are out more often or time of concern would be late october to december, that is breeding season. that's when they tend to run out into the road more often. spring time is where the mothers stash their fawns in private areas, and could be somebody's backyard so those are the times of concerns where we get a lot of concerns and people are concerned about it. >> let's say you find a raccoon on your property or possum or something like that, are you the person that people should call? >> so if the animal is outside of your property, we let them be. they are within their ab
