assaulted a woman. >> hi, derek. >> good morning, all is quiet here around the intersection of 23rd and california where this happened around 10:30 last night. it was reported about 10:30 last night. she lives in the 2300 block of california street. she found an intruder in her home, the intruder blindfoldeder, tied her hands, and sexually assaulted her. it's not clear how this person got into the woman's home. a frightening or deal for the woman. once police come out with a sketch or a description of the suspect we will try to bring that to you, but again, a horrible crime here on the 2300 block of california street. a burglary and

derrick ward, back to you. developing overnight, dc firefighters also say a man is dead following an apartment fire. this happened just before midnight. the apartment is behind a shopping center on alabama avenue. you see several of the windows were shattered. investigators are working to learn what caused this fire and no one else had to be rescued. a man was shot in the head in the southeast. no someone in custody at this point. expect longer waiting through the blue and yellow lines starting today. metro surge number 13 will run through april 9th. this is happening in two fazes. first the blue and yellow line strains, extra yellow line trains between reagan national and mt. vernon square.

train. to find other ways around it go to our nbc washington app and search metro alternative. a cool is mourning the loss of two students just months away from graduating. they were killed in a car crash yesterday afternoon. they went to west lake high school and both died. their classmate, kayla marshall, is now in the hospital. the two students died after the car they were in slammed into a pole. it happened around 12:30 p.m. on smallwood drive, not far from where they went to high school. the school east principal says this is a great loss. >> the two young men that lost their lives were really good young men. known throughout the school, a good circle of friends, and you know always smiling, gentlemen and happy. >> witnesses say the car the teens were in was traveling fast just moments before that

however welcome the charles county sheriff's office is trying to find out what happened. a mother is trying not to fear the worst after two bodies were found in a park near her home, her 14-year-old son has been missing for months. >> translator: very much sadness, waiting to know something about my son. >> her eyes are filled with water and worry wishing she could wipe away the pain. she waits to see if her missing son, sergio's remains have been found in the park. >> i think anyone in my position would be worried, and i want to believe my son will be fine. >> they live in an apartment ten minutes from the mark. they found the remains of

people after receiving a tip. investigators believe the deaths are more than likely gang related. they have been here for less than a year. on a night in mid september, her son walked to this dumpster to throw out the trash and she has never seen him since. >> karla says sergio is not involved in gangs. police say gang members have used the park in the past for crimes. gang members who committed previous crimes in the park were convicted last year and are serving life sentences. >> i hope to know that he is somewhere safe. >> police are increasingly working to stop gang violence through education and prevention. but it is the prevention of the crime that's is tough to crack. one reason they say is deep rooted mist trust that communities have

he said at this point they have not seen any evidence along those lines. this is all in the context of the ongoing investigations. nbc news investigating trump campaign contacts with russians that may have happened in the fall during the election campaign. and the house and senate election committees are also doing investigations into those contacts. we know that house and senate democrats have been expressing frustration with what the fbi has been willing to tell them about these contacts. the top democrats, adam shipp saying he only knows a fraction. this affects the highest levels of the administration with jeff sessions rescuesing himself after it became clear that he

battling this brush fire in pasco county, california. you see how close it is to burning a row of homes there. voluntary evacuations are in effect for people who live in those houses. as well as anyone living within a three mile radius of this fire. according to our partner station, the fire is 70% contained right now. at one point it came within 50 feet of those houses. firefighters were able to protect the homes. and being detained in connection with kim jong-un's brother's death. two women have been charged with murder in kim's death. >> grab your coat, your
