we are following two big breaking news stories for you. first, officers on the scene of a police-involved shooting in prince george's county. a live report straight ahead. plus, investigators in northern virginia say a killer is on the loose

confrontation between a suspected shoplifter and a security guard. and family and friends honor two young lives that ended far too soon. >> announcer: news 4 at 11:00 begins with breaking news. it has been an extremely busy night of news. good evening. i'm erika gonzalez. we want to start in capital heights. prince george's county police are working an officer-involved shooting. news 4's darcy spencer just got to the scene. darcy, what are you learning? >> reporter: well, erika, we're still waiting for prince george's county police to give us an update on what exactly happened out here tonight. first let me set the scene here where we are. we're along southern avenue, along the d.c. prince george's county line. we're right near the intersection with sable street. you can see that this street has been blocked off. there are police cruisers lining the area here. from what we understand, there was a potential exchange of gunfire between a prince

george's county police officer and a suspect. at this point they don't believe that the bullet took effect. in other words, they believe that the officer fired but they're not aware of that shot actually hitting someone. and fortunately, no officer was injured in this incident. again, we're still trying to gather information in terms of what exactly happened. but police are coverage an officer-involved shooting. that suspect is still at large. we'll continue to follow this and bring you any updates as we get them. we are expecting a press conference here any minute. the chief is here on the scene. back to you. a developing story in capitol heights, maryland. darcy spencer, thank you. now let's go to some breaking news in northern virginia. we've learned an employee at the burlington coat factory at po told mack mills in woodbridge has died. police say a man stabbed the employee this afternoon. officers are looking for that suspect tonight. this is his picture. this is jamel carlos kingsbury. police say he stabbed a man with

shoplifting something inside that store. larry drumgole died at the hospital. he was 44 years old. if you've got any information about this case, please call police. there are more police circling one of the district's most prestigious neighborhoods tonight. officers are looking for a man who they say sexually assaulted a woman inside her own home. the attack happened on california street in northwest d.c. in the kalorama neighborhood last night. this is within blocks of the homes of both ivanka trump and the obamas. police say the woman encountered a male intruder inside her home. she says she was blindfolded, tied up, and assaulted. neighbors tell us they recognize the dangers of city living. >> we know we live in the city. we're city people. we try to be very careful. >> reporter: police officers are also look for the public's help. they don't have much of a description to go on. if you know anything about this

case, call police. remembering two maryland teenagers whose lives were cut short this week after a horrible car crash. tonight friends and family holding a vigil for desmond cook and colin d. pack. both were 17 and student at westlake high school in waldorf. they were killed friday afternoon when their car hit a pole on smallwood drive not far from the school. tonight bipat's father has this emotional plea. >> guys, please, i'm asking you, let this be a lesson. let you guys just open your eyes and know that tomorrow's not promising. let the grudges go. love each other like it's never tomorrow. >> a third teenager in the car with them has serious injuries. police are still investigating this crash. and another teenager was also killed in a car crash yesterday in waldorf. this happened just before midnight on st. peter's

control of the car at a curve in the road and hit a tree. he was the only person in that car. police will release his name once his family has been told. the cause of that crash is still under investigation. new at 11:00, d.c. police need help finding this teenager, caron taylor has been missing since 11:30 last night. he was last seen on congress street in southeast d.c. taylor was wearing a black coat with a red zipper, light-colored jeans, black sneakers. he's just 15 years old. so if you've seen him, please call d.c. police. it'll be years before you'll be able to check out a book at one of d.c.'s libraries. martin luther king jr. memorial library in chinatown will be closed until 2020 for renovations. this afternoon advocates for the city's homeless protested outside the facility. they're upset homeless people will no longer be able to spend their days inside that building. a skier buried under six

so it looks like this picturesque ski slope now, but earlier today it was the scene of an avalanche. and that avalanche buried a skier under six feet of snow. he's lucky he had a buddy with him who was equipped with digging gear. and his partner managed to dig him out within five minutes. this happened on a mountain in british columbia. the skier has multiple injuries. but rescuers were able to get a li

out, and to an awaiting ambulance that was nearby. maryland governor larry hogan wants to chait redistricting process that he calls disgraceful. according to the delmarva now.com the governor is rallying support for a bill that would set up an independent non-partisan committee to handle redistricting. democrats in the state oppose the plan because their lawmakers have used redistricting to dominate state politics. redistricting reform is one of hogan's primary goals as he gears up for the 2018 governor's race. the national zoo's remaining panda cub is hitting a big milestone. zoo officials saying bei bei has started weaning from his mother mei xiang. bei bei is about 2 years old and that's the time pandas start to become more independent. bei bei now lives in yard 3 and zoo officials say he's adjusting to his new habitat and he enjoys napping in his indoor hammock. next on news 4, prd

nbc's casey hunt is in west palm beach with the president. >> reporter: without offering any evidence president trump today make an explosive claim, that president barack obama tapped his phones before the election. >> this is what democracy looks like! >> reporter: starting at 6:35 a.m. the president sent a string of five tweets. "terrible," he wrote. "just found out that obama had my wires tapped in trump tower just before the victory. nothing found. this is mccarthy vmz." comparing obama to nixon and watergate. he then hit the golf course. a senior u.s. official says the president apparently didn't consult with people inside the u.s. government before he sent the tweets that experts say could have profound implications. >> if the president's claims are correct, it means that somebody in trump tower was involved in criminal activity or foreign espionage activity. that is a stunning admission. >> reporter: white house staff had been circulating this story from the right-wing website once run by chief

by midday a spokesman for president obama released this statement saying "neither presidential nor any white house official ever ordered surveillance on any u.s. citizen. any suggestion otherwise is simply false." at a town hall today republican senator lindsey hall addressed the tweets. >> i would be very worried if in fact the obama administration was able to obtain a warrant lawfully about trump campaign activity with foreign governments. >> reporter: but the claims could also be a distraction. a frequent tactic of the president. the accusations coming as the fbi investigates his campaign's contact with russians. and pressure is mounting on capitol hill. but with the country divided and protests both for and against the president today, americans are split on what it all means. >> it's a smoke screen. he's just trying to distract from the unbelievable amount of problems his administration is having. >> usa! >> reporter: but his core supporters -- >> what's going on today is just kind of a show of support for donald trump and his

all the way. and we want to go back to our breaking news that we had at the top of this broadcast. reports of an officer-involved shooting in capitol heights, maryland. this is a live picture. you're seeing lieutenant david coleman of the prince george's county police department addressing reporters. >> lieutenant coleman, go over what happened here tonight with this breaking news. >> about 8:50 this evening we received a call for a fight at the 900 block of kayak avenue. officers got to the scene. a victim stated that he had been robbed and gave a description of a suspect. another officer in the area saw a gentleman matching that description. when we attempted to stop him, he fled into d.c. during the pursuit the suspect and our officer exchanged gunfire. our officer was not hit. the suspect's still outstanding. we're working on a description of the suspect. and any more information we can gather at that residence please follow our social media account for updates. in adio

that they went for a robbery investigation on kayak avenue and they began to chase someone who matched the description of the person they were looking for and at that point there was an exchange of gunfire between that person and the officer. fortunately, the officer was not hit by that gunfire. we do not know at this point whether the suspect was hit. but we're told the suspect ran into d.c. they have been looking for him. we've seen the helicopter up. and they have also continued to look for that suspect. at this point they have not. this is darcy spencer reporting live from prince george's county, news 4. >> announcer: and now your storm team 4 forecast. our high today 44 degrees. tomorrow very similar. but the good news, the winds not an issue on your sunday. but this is the coldest weekend we've had since early january and at this point your second weather headline here will have some rain around later tuesday.

placed our area under a moderate or severe drought. to get out of the drought we would need six to nine inches of rain in a month's time. we'll take whatever we can get at this point. next weekend not only daylight savings time begins, we lose that hour of sleep. but keeping a close eye on the forecast it is a little tricky right now. the computer models kind of all over the place. show you my thoughts in just a mome moment. but first take a look at how cold it is already. 25 in frederick and gaithersburg. 33 in washington. this is what we wake up to tomorrow morning. 7:00 a.m. we're in the teens in the suburbs. mid 20s here in town. 24 for a low in the district. 17 in frederick and gaithersb g gaithersburg. 19 in manassas. clear skies overnight tonight. as we look throughout the day tomorrow, it's a sun-filled day. plenty of sunshine from start to finish. by noon upper 30s. a high tomorrow of 43. normally this time of year our high is 51 degrees. we are running five to ten

another cold night. but all in all the weather having a pretty low impact on your sunday. great day to go to ski round top, to get in some late season skiing or snowboarding. make sure you have the goggles because of the sun glare on the snow. exercise, though, going to be chilly especially during the early morning hours. you'll want a few layers, maybe even the gloves to go for the jog. just going out and about on your sunday the warm puffy coat is the coat you should be reaching for. and yard work still too early with our last freeze typically at the end of the month. as we look to monday we're warmer. highs near 60 with crowds increasing throughout the day. have your umbrella handy on tuesday. take a look here. future weather 8:00 a.m. it's a dry but cloudy start. dry through the midday. you can have lunch outdoors on tuesday. mid 60s for highs. but look at what happens during the evening hours. potentially a slow go coming home on tuesday. 5:00 p.m. we're tracking rain across the area. and we'll continue to track rain at least into some of the overnight hours. with the cold front. so he

we're windy on wednesday, but high temperatures in the low 60s. on thursday highs in the low 50s with plenty of sunshine. and then on friday we'll have highs in the mid 50s. starting to warm back up. as we look to next weekend again, daylight savings time begins on sunday. we spring forward, we lose that hour of sleep. right now it's looking for the chance for some showers on saturday and i'm thinking highs around 60. on saturday low 60s on sunday i think if these numbers go anywhere the trend has been going up. potentially even warmer. something i continue to monitor. i'll be here tomorrow morning, erika, updating the forecast. and then kind of after that we're back in the 50s. >> thanks, mel. we want to congratulate two of our colleagues for a tremendous honor they've received tonight. doreen against gensler and donna
