gender discrimination and job insecurity. across the world today is international women's day. women in more than 50 countries plan to strike to raise awareness of gender violence, reproductive rights, labor rights and environmental protection. women are also asked to avoid shopping in stores and online. the exception is small businesses, local businesses, and women and minority owned companies. now, women and men are also being encouraged to wear red. red represents revolutionary love and sacrifice and has a history with the labor movement. men are also being asked to held with care giving and domestic chores. they're being asked to rally for equal pay. you can also find a list of local events happening on the nbc washington app in conjunction with a day without a woman. a lot of marchs will be held today and two events will have a noticeable impact in

women plan to march from freedom plaza to the white house and then at 3:30 down sea street from the department of labor to john marshall park. >> the day of action could impact you whether you take part or not. late last night we learned all prince george's county public schools are closed today. 1,700 teachers and 30% of the transportation staff requested leave today and in d.c. all six center city public charter schools will be closed because of staff requests for time off. alexandria city public schools are also closed today. more than 300 staff members there requested the day off. the closures have a lot of parents scrambling to find child care today. the city's out of school time program in alexandria is available from 9:00 to 6:00 p.m. there is a walk-in fee of $15 and children should bring lunch and snacks. it's 4:31. local businesses are also

firsthand. first we want to show you new footage that we got of the mangled bus being towed away finally, this after being struck and pushed 300 feet down the tracks. we know that four people died. many of the 50 people on board were injured, several still in critical condition this morning. take a listen to what one witness saw. >> seen the train coming. he was trying to slow it down but it was too much weight and he just made that impact. >> we know that some people were cut from the wreckage and we listened to some of the 911 calls and energy responders saying there was a body under the train. officials still are not sure. they're not sure why this tour bus believed to be carrying a lot of senior citizens to the casino got stuck on those tracks but we have new information. we know the ntsb is joining the federal railroad administration in investigating this case. they w

security guard outside a burlington coat factory on saturday. someone spotted him and called 911. the dispatcher who took that call only spoke to news4. >> we stayed on the line and i got a description from head to toe, so i stayed on the line. when i heard an officer in the background, he stated to me, he's running. so i said, if he's running then that's him. >> sharon jones says she praised the caller for doing the right thing. kings bury will stay in custody until he can be extradited to virginia. jiet's been a tough yeart west like high school and today students and staff will honor four seniors who died. two were killed in a crash last friday. the car they were in was speeding. hicks was shot and killed in a parking lot behind a movie theater in october and another senior, caleb horn died

this morning national park service will be looking into what caused lady liberty not to shine so brightly last night. the statue of liberty temporarily went dark before 11:00. the park service says the outage was probably related to a project for new emergency backup generator. the lights were back on just after midnight. something to think about the next time you start to fill up your cars. >> arlington police found four skimmers monday night on gas pumps at the shell station. it's not known yet if any credit card information has been stolen. go to the nbc washington app for some ideas of what to watch out for the gallery of the commonly used skimmers. your metro bus line could be going away for good. metro may cut more than a dozen bus lines to close the budget gap. 13 metro bus routes may be eliminated. one of thems

congress is closer to approving a law to make federal government buildings more mom friendly. the u.s. passed a bill that would require each building to have sufficient lactation spaces for breast-feeding. several d.c. federal government facilities lacked the number of breast-feeding spaces required in federal buildings. the bill now heads to the senate. well, today a big battle is set to happen on capitol hill as members of congress begin debating the plan that will replace the affordable care act. democrats oppose the bill entirely but they're not the only ones against the american health care act. we're joined live from capitol hill to explain why some conservatives say this plan is too generous. >> reporter: this is a very interesting fact and development happening that there's fighting within the republican party about how health care should go forward. some of the more conservative members see that the american health care act,

obamacare light. they say americans expected that clean break which is why a new bill has been introduced which is a bill introduced in 2015 to make that clean break and just repeal obamacare and deal with replacement later. we'll have to see what happens. and turning now to president trump's travel ban, do states plan to drop their lawsuits now against the ban since it's been revised? >> reporter: not all states. we're hearing that hawaii has filed a motion on tuesday that they would like to fight this new travel ban. they amended their original lawsuit, which a judge now has allowed them to do. there will be a motion hearing on this on march 15th, a day before the travel ban goes into effect. now, hawaii is saying this new travel ban discriminates against people because it won't allow new visas to be issued from those six states or countries that have been banned and it also won't allow the refugee program to

>> preschool classrooms could have windows strong enough to resist a bomb blast. another threat yesterday against the jewish community center in rockville. that threat was e-mailed in. it is the sixth time someone has threatened the center since january. now they're considering a $225,000 grant for security improvements like cameras and bomb resistant windows. the changes will come up at a hearing next month. a driver is recovering from shooting injuries after police say a road rage incident yesterday afternoon happened. maryland state police say two men got out of their cars along the shoulder of the road not far from the leesburg split. things got heated and that's when they say a man was shot in the leg and foot. charges are pending. >> if you drive on 66 inside the beltway through thursday morning, the highway will be

school officials to shorten the school year because loudoun county haven't used any snow days this year. the petition has more than 1,400 signatures. loudoun county public schools say end of year exams and graduation dates are already set and changing the dismissal date is unlikely. some breaking news on the roads. this is on 95 south? >> exactly. so at 619 triangle. in the past ten seconds or so we finally got a left lane getting by. we have about a 1 and a half mile backup headed southbound. we were shut down there. 95 southbound at triangle here this morning. have another problem just north of there. also sort of adding to the pain and then all of this now is rain falling across the area, not helping things. southbound 95 at quantico. a crash between two tractor trailers with a left lane getting by and now the left lane south of that getting by at triangle. thank yo
