make sure you take a few minutes to enjoy the warmer weather because it is moving out and soon. >> we'll get the latest with chuck and see na heena in a mom. >> still quite slow. breaking news here southbound on i-95 in virginia. we're talking about at 619 triangle. still one and a half mile backup and starting to see some delays in those northbound lanes here because of this earlier crash that did have us shut down. northbound 95 at prince william parkway, a crash there on the left shoulder this morning. 270 southbound at the pike, a new crash reported along 270 and then brandy wine road east of 301, still have those wires down. taking a look now at the weather, good morning. >> good morning. and there you see the rain around. we still have some showers around currently and as we go through, the next hour or so we'll still see something and

the steadiest of the rain has already moved out. now we're left over with some spotty showers. fairfax near the district. just some very light rain, maybe just sprinkles at this point. charles county as well so we could still be seeing a few light sprinkles over 95. but we had a lot of wind moving in but again, i mentioned quick clearing and mild temperatures. for a closer look at those temperatures and what to expect let's head over to chuck bell. >> kind of a cool start now. it was much warmer not long ago. it was in the 60s when i pull out of my garage about 2:00 this morning. back into the 40s to around 50. still way warmer than average. so kids going out to the bus stops, showers coming to an end very quickly. maybe have the precautionary umbrella for a bit but a breezy and mild afternoon today with temperatures back up into the mid perhaps to the upper 60s. blowing the rain drops out of here today

enjoy the warmth while it's here and there's several chances for snow in the ten-day forecast. it was the march that sparked a movement and today, the same organizers behind the women's march on washington are encouraging women across the country to stay home from work. and there are a lot of ways the march could impact you. let's give you a look at what you need to know today about a day without a woman event. this is happening today, march 8th because it is international women's day. the organizers say women should stay home and take the day off of work. also to avoid shopping in stores and online, they say shopping at small businesses, local businesses, women and minority owned companies is okay. now, if you do have to work but you want to show your support there are ways you can do that as well. organizers say wear red. women and men both can do this

and sacrifice. this is all happening to call attention to women's issues including wage inequality, gender discrimination and other work place issues. international women's day events are being -- taking place around the world in 50 countries. you can see what's happening here in the nbc washington app. now, this boycott has also prompted some schools to close because too many teachers and staff asked for the day off. erika gonzales is live from prince george's county to explain the decision there. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, aaron. well, when you are missing 1,700 teachers and 30% of your transportation staff it makes it hard for things to go on as normal or as usual. the ceo of prince george's county public schools put those numbers out yesterday. maxwell said the county could not provide safe and productive learning environments without adequate staff and went on to apologize for that

inconvenience. we are seeing similar scenes play out as far as schools are concerned and your kids maybe this morning. center city public charter schools, alexandria city schools as well closed for the day. the same ones you mentioned behind the women's march on washington that happened right after the election are calling for a one-day strike around the world to spotlight the role women play in society and suggest women take part in rallies and marchs near them. now, that being said, schools are not the only place that we are seeing an impact from this boycott. this also has a lot to do with local businesses. you can see more about that on my facebook page. we're live in prince george's county for you. i'm erika gonzalez, back to you. this morning, national park service will be looking into what caused lady liberty not to shine so brightly last night. the statue of liberty temporarily went dark before 11:00.

to a project for a new emergency backup generator. the lights went back on just after midnight. now, there was a horrific train crash in mississippi. >> now a team from d.c. is heading to the scene. angie goff has the latest on this deadly crash. >> yes, but they are still here. in ten minutes or so we're expected to hear from the ntsb. they are getting ready to head to that tragic scene. first, let's take you live to the scene. i believe we have a live shot to show you what is going on right now. actually we've lost that but i saw it a little earlier. still remnants of a catastrophic crash there. the arm rails, the twisted arms of a railroad crossing still on the ground. this tour bus got stuck on the track yesterday, pushed 300 feet by that train. four people died. most of the 50 senior citizens on board were hurt. seven this morning still in critical condition and this is what one witness said. >> i saw the

nbc news has not confirmed the authenticity of the 8,700 documents released by wick leaks. the documents suggest they have the ability to spy on people using electronics including smartphones and tvs even when some popular mobile encryption devices are used. lawmakers will begin debating the bill meant to replace the affordable care act. some of the toughest opposition could come from other republicans. just ahead we'll tell you why some conservatives are calling the new law obamacare light. today a house subcommittee is expected to go over a plan to renew school vouchers in the district. d.c.'s federally funded scholarship program is the only one in the nation. it provides up to $12,000 a year to students from low income families so they can attend private schools because tax dollars are used to fund private

some breaking news in traffic. >> let's check with melissa mollet. >> a couple of different problems. this one is looking a lot better. southbound 270. we had the southbound lanes shut down. we're now hearing this might be actually on the shoulder. that would be very good news for lots of people. inner loop before st. barnabas road, a crash there. triangle still have that left side of the roadway getting by. 270 south looks okay from germantown. top of the beltway, no major problems. 66 inbound okay as well. remember to listen to wtop when you hop in your car. i'll be on wtop with the forecast in a couple more minutes but a little head's up on your weekend plans. we'll be up into the

next couple of days but highs over the weekend will be about 30 degrees colder than that. only in the mid to upper 30s for highs both saturday and sunday. a lot of clouds are out for the second half of the weekend and we're still watching a chance for some rain or wet snow flakes around here in the first part of the day on sunday. doesn't look like much. the storm as of now looks like the storm will be farther down south of us but it will certainly be cold. the whole five-day forecast coming up next. let's get to angie at the live desk now. >> there has been an attack on the hospital. what's this about? >> we're seeing the aftermath of it all. a few hours or so ago two to three attackers were still inside that hospital in kabul afghanistan. you're seeing the smoke from an earlier explosion. five total attackers including a suicide bomber who blew himself up right at the gate. you can see that smoke, you can see that there are security forces responding here. three people were killed in the attack.

the gunmen stormed the facility after the suicide bomber blew himself up and we're told that they dressed as doctors. the taliban was suspected of being behind the attack. but so far this morning they're denying responsibility. the quick thinking of a witness and a 911 dispatcher helped track down a suspected killer. this morning 35-year-old jamal kingsbury is behind bars. he's the man that killed a man outside of a burlington coat factory. someone spotted him and called 911. the dispatcher who took the call only spoke to news4. >> we stayed on the line and i -- you know, i got a description from head to toe. so i stayed on the line. when i heard an officer in the background, he stated to me, he's running. so i said, if he's running then that's him. >> sharon jones says she praised the caller for doing the right thin

kingsbury will stay in custody in d.c. until he's extradited to virginia. >> a court order is keeping some billboards from being turned on. city inspectors first filed stop work orders against owner digi media saying the signs lacked permits. they've asked to issue an emergency rule to allow the signs. as of right now the mayor has not made a final decision. it may be easier to find craft beer in fairfax county. zoning laws have been eased for breweries, distilleries and wineries. they can now sell their beers in grocery stores and tasting rooms. now new smaller breweries will have access to certain commercial areas. it is one of the most popular new art exhibits around here and

get into. >> we told you about the new infinity exhibit. to keep up with demand the museum plans to stay open late until 8:00 starting tonight. the museum is also releasing more passes for same day visits. you have to stand in line though. you've probably seen all the pictures of the exhibit. museum officials say they're part of the reason the display is so popular. the exhibit will be up through mid may and this is an artist who said she's been dealing with mental illnesses and her art has helped her express herself and feel better. we want to thank everyone at river side elementary school. >> we went to the school yesterday. it was the college and career readiness day with some of the fourth graders, i think a few sixth graders. some really great questions about news and the world and -- >> and our personal lives. >> some of that too. right? >> we want to thank the school

in our area and the fbi is trying to find out who is behind it. >> the latest happened at the bender jewish community center. >> justin finch is live there for us this morning and a call for extra security. >> reporter: aaron, that's right and perhaps more ways to pay for that security. they're considering a grant that would set aside for more funding for jewish schools. here at the bender jcc staffers tell us that funding can go to very good and quick use. let's take you to some video here. they're talking about bomb resistant one does, video surveillance systems as well as remote control doors. the bender community center is welcoming the proposal which called for some $225,000 in security aid. it comes after the sixth bomb threat since january. that threat was e-mailed to

women's march on washington have sparked yet another national movement. >> a day without a woman is in full swing this morning with thousands of women taking the day off of work today to push for things such as equal pay. some of those women are teachers and staff members at area schools. erika gonzalez is live now to explain which schools decided to shut down for the day. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, eun. we are outside one of about 200 schools in prince george's county that are closed today because they simply did not have the proper amount of teachers to be able to provide an adequate learning environment for students, but this is currently playing out here in prince george's county. this is also affecting students and teachers and parents and staff alike at center city public charter schools in d.c. at alexandria city schools, the late notice sending parents scrambling and getting mixed reaction on social media.

here this morning. we'll go back to chopper. brad, tell us about all these delays. >> well, an unlikely culprit of this morning's rush hour as we look on 95 southbound. when we pull out and show you these delays, three miles of solid brake lights headed through prince williams county but there is a better way. for that we go to the wtop traffic center. >> we're hoping route 1 will handle any kind of volume if folks know about this they can hop over toward route 1. you'll stack up because of the lights but you've got all your travel lanes available and hopefully they can get this crash cleared out the main lanes of 95. anything else going on like this mess? >> you know it. a lot is going on. take a look at other issues as we're looking at the beltway. inner loop, branch avenue, we are again, quite slow through that area. 66 inbound looking good at 61

inner loop, the right lane blocked with a new accident there as well. 270 has recovered. no major problems from that earlier crash that closed things down. bottom of the beltway, not bad. 9 miles per hour inbound on 210. 31 miles per hour inbound on 5. travel times, 270 again is okay. top of the beltway, not terrible. looking pretty normal here. 66 inbound and 95 north feeling a little bit of pain there this morning. remember to listen to wtop when you hop in your car. good morning, sheena. >> good morning, melissa. we still have some rain around this morning. it's light. it's spotty but it will start to clear soon with gusty winds developing. colder temperatures start this weekend. and that cold pattern may be sticking around for quite a few days. sunday the snow chances we've been watching, they look much farther to our south now so kind of slim to none around here at this point. chuck will be back to talk more about that. here's a look at the
