trips. the president is trying to pressure republican lawmakers who oppose the bill, calling it another version of the affordable care act. now, as the president hits the road, law packers will stay here in washington.. coming up, we'll go live to news 4's edward lawrence on capitol hill with a look at how republicans plan to convince members of their own party to vote for this new health care bill. metro's board will take a preliminary vote on a revised bill later today. bus and rail fares could increase anywhere from 25 to 50 cents a ride and 13 bus routes could be cut. metro says changes are needed to close in nearly 300 million budget gap. a final vote is set for march 23rd. and transportation reporter adam tuff will be inside the board room for that vote. be sure to follow him on

welcome back. it's 4:39. all schools are back open today after a few districts in our area closed because of a day without a woman. >> in d.c., thousands of men and women took to the streets yesterday to call on lawmakers to support women's issues like squall pay. protests like this took place in cities all across the country. supporters say they felt the need to speak out. >> i came out because i wanted to support all the women that need equal pay. >> women literally are the backbone of this entire country and this entire world. without women, we wouldn't be here. >> women need to realize they need to vote, they need to

paul ryan does believe he has the votes he needs to pass this to the house and senate. the house ways and means committee very early this morning voted to repeal the tax penalty that you have if you don't have health insurance. they also voted to push through the tax credits and remove the government subsidies up front for the health care that is offered under obamacare. so this bill is moving forward out of the house ways and means committee. >> what's president trump's role in selling this health care bill to the american people? >> he's using the weight of the white house to try and do it. he had dinner last night with senator advertise the ever ted cruz's family. he met with senator rand paul, two of the biggest critics of this bill. so he's reaching out trying to get this bill passed as he sees it. >> edward, thank you. 4:46 right now. there's a new push in the house of representatives that could have a big impact on our local economy. jason chaffitz

some federal agencies to leave the d.c. area. he says it would allow the federal government to be more representative of its people. the move led to some testy changes yesterday during a committee hearing. >> there's nothing opposed to having the economic growth and development in washington, d.c., but i do believe conceptually and in my heart that if you want a government that's reflective of the people, they need to be closer to the people. >> this is astonishing that we're going to play games with the capitol of the united states to maine make points back home because some constituents wonder why you fly to washington, the nation's capital? most constituents i know understand why we come here. it's the capital. >> virginia congressman jerry conley from northern virginia there. tom sherwood reports that 85% of the federal workforce does not work in the d.c. area. this idea has come up several times over the years. if you're curious to how much virginia lawmakers received in
