doctors got inside a military hospital in kabul. all four attackers were among the 30 killed. many of the victims were doctors and patients the. today marks 40 years since one of the most horrific acts of terror in the district. 12 gunmen seized three buildings in d.c., 149 people were taken hostage and a radio reporter was killed. >> news 4's mark seagraves takes us through the standoff that lasted more than a day. >> the hanafi siege has widely been regarded as the first act of terrorism in the nation's capital. it was march 9th, 1977. the leader of the hanafi movement wanted to avenge the execution of his family. hamaas abdul khaalis wanted to force police to release the murder suspect to his directly. first, gunmen invited the b' naib' rith headquarters. less than an hour later, three men took over the islamic center of washington.

what is now the wilson building three blocks from the white house. that's where whur radio reporter maurice williams was killed as he was exiting an elevator. the terrorists thought they were being attacked. security guard matt cantrell was shot in the district building. he died days later of a heart attack. and council member marion barry was wounded during the siege. barry began organizing his run from mayor from his hospital bed shortly after being shot. the next day, three ambassadors met with the hanafis to negotiate their vunder and the release of the hostages. the killers were caught, convicted and sent to jail. mark seagraves, news 4. and tonight, to mark 40 years, survivors of that day will meet at the wilson building in downtown d.c. to share their stories. news 4's pat collins who covered the takeover will lead a panel discussion and the new photo exhibit will be unveileded in the d.c. council cha

gaithersburg, 70 for the high in culpepper today, 65 in edgewater, maryland. for tomorrow, rain drops, not a lot of rain, but rain drops and some wet snowflakes during the morning commute tomorrow, staying mostly cloudy, windy and cold all day tomorrow. in fact, afternoon highs -- or temperatures tomorrow afternoon will fall very, very quickly. we'll be down below freezing by your friday evening plans. future weather, 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, a pocket of light rain around the washington area. more likely to have snowflakes mixing in. northern maryland, panhandle of west virginia out into the shennendoah valley. it's not going to last long and the ground is warm. even though we can get snow to fall, i don't think we can get snow to accumulate other than on the grassy areas. by 10:00 tomorrow morning, the most of it is out of here. but i couldn't rule out a snowflake or passing rain during the day as the winds increase. could have winds over 40 miles per hour tomorrow afternoon. that's the colder air racing in for the weekend. saturday staying in the upper 30s to near 40 on sunday. that snow chance on

all but gone, but it may come back on tuesday. don't forget to move your clocks ahead one hour when you go to bed saturday night. >> thank you, chuck. taking a look at traffic right now, chopper 4 over that earlier issue outer loop ramp to southbound 95. tractor-trailer just got pulled out of the way and now we have the left side of that ramp open this morning. so that is good news. don't have to worry about that diversion here any more this morning. outer loop ramp to connecticut avenue, crash again still along the right side. limited access to northbound connecticut. so we are seeing some delays there as you're getting off on to northbound connecticut. southbound, though swb unaffected this morning. northbound 395 after king street, still have that crash are on the left lane. you can see 66 looks okay here this morning. right now, 270 southbound no major problems from 70 down to the spur, you're on time. going about 45 miles per hour. it's going to take you about 40 minutes here today. so shouldn't be worried with that too much. and top of the beltway, all those routes into town and out of town are just fine.

ramp down to 95 southbound. chopper showed us that cleared out of the way. one lane getting by a crash there. eastbound and southbound 270 looking quite good right now. aaron. >> melissa, thank you. 6:32, we're following breaking news in montgomery county where an investigation is under way at a gun store in rockville. >> police responded to the 5400 block of randolph road just before 6:00 this morning. megan mcgrath is live on the scene with more on this investigation. megan. >> hey, guys. you can see behind me here, the investigators doing their work. they seem to have some bags there on the parking lot area, potentially some evidence in this case. the on open door that you see there, that on the side of the building, that's the entrance to the united gun shop 37. a little bit before 4:00 this morning, a silent alarm inside that gun shop went off. at that point, the security company, they called police and police responded here to the

anything, we don't have that information yet. we do have calls in to police trying to find out whether any guns were, indeed, stolen in this or if anything else was taken. we just don't have that information at this point. but you can see that investigators are taking a look. they're gathering some evidence here from the scene and we're hoping to get an update at some point this morning. obviously, anyone who was in the area, this is randolph road. and kind of an industrial area. if there were folks, witnesses, you saw anything suspicious, you're asked to call montgomery police. >> megan, thank you. here is a quick look at this morning's other top stories. if federal communications commission is investigating a nationwide at&t outage last night. it prevented some customers from being able to call 911. justin finch will have the latest at 6:45. follow him on twitter. his handle

police found a body in capital heights overnight. police say an officer found him outside the oak crest community center around midnight. happening now, republicans have won their first victory in repealing the affordable care act. they pushed the measure through the house ways and means committee to repeal tax penalties on people who don't buy insurance. the legislation would also end income-based subsidies that government gives people to buy coverage. instead, it creates tax credits based largely on age. the request has been made and now the senate judiciary committee is waiting for a response from the fbi. the committee requested documents relate to go president trump's accusation that former tt president about the barack obama tapped his phone last year. >> erika gonzalez has more on the specific documents they asked for. the request asks specifically for copies of warrant applications or court orders relevant to the alleged wiretaps. meanwhile, the white house is changing its stance saying

president trump may not have been the intended target. >> i just want to be really clear on one point, which is that there is no reason that we should -- that we have to think that the president is the target of any investigation. whatsoever. >> the president tweeted the wiretapping accusation saturday morning, but provided no evidence. mr. obama has called the accusation, quote, simply false. remember, director comey has reportedly asked the just department officials to publicly reject the accusations. in the news room, i'm erica gonzalez. back to you. >> erika, thank you. virginia senator tim kaine's son spent three nights in jail after being arrested during a political protest. he was among six people arrested on saturday after protesters disrupted a valley inside the state capitol in st. paul. kaine got out of jail on tuesday.

released a statement saying their children fully understand the responsibility to peacefully express their political concerns. 6:36 now. former maryland state delegate michael vaughn is accused of bribery, conspiracy and wire fraud. the indictment says he took more than $10,000 in exchange for supporting sunday liquor sales in the county. he's charged with stealing thousands of dollars from his own campaign account. vaughn has resigned and he is not commenting on the indictment. we know you are waiting for those cherry blossoms to bloom, but you'll have to wait a bit longer. >> we saw those buds, but the peak bloom dates are changing now. the national park service has been forced to move the dates because of the cold weather we're going to have this weekend. the blossoms are now supposed to be picture perfect sometime between march 19th and the 22nd. the peak was initially expected for next week. and the

just a little bit before 4:00 this morning. two people, at least two people we're told forced their way into the door, into the gun shop. a silent alarm went off. the alarm company then called police and police responded here to the scene. so in the investigation still in its early stages, we don't know the exact numbers of guns that were taken here. i'm told that the forensics team has to finish up their work inside the shop before they can go in and actually get a better inventory, get a better count in terms of how many guns may have been stolen. but police confirm to go me that multiple handguns and multiple long guns were taken. in terms of the robbery, it was forced entry through the front door, and it sounds like it happened all very, very quickly. back to you in the studio. >> megan mcgath live for us in rockville, thank you. it is 6:47. now we turn to a story that has a lot of you talking on our nbc

at&t wireless customers were unable to call 911 last night, in some cases for hours. justin finch is live in northwest washington now with the information you need to keep available. justin, good morning. >> eun, good morning. when you call 911 and get no answer, it is a problem. that's what many at&t wireless customers say happened to them last night here and across the country. this outage lasted about two hours or so with customers calling 911 and get ago busy tone. by 10:30 last night, at&t responded saying the issue was resolved and also said they were looking into thmore. but no cause was given as to what caused this in the first place. in the meantime, law enforcement agencies from coast to coast scrambled to post additional service numbers online like d.c.'s office of unified communications. take a listen. >> always a city, we want to be sure that we want to get the best information out as soon as possible to make sure folks wh
