the intersection was shut down for nearly seven hours. that road just reopened just before 3:00 this morning. a third person suffered nonlife threatening injuries. a funeral will be held in maryland. he was killed in a car crash last friday. west lake senior desmond cook was also killed in that crash. it was one of the darkest days for the prince george's county sheriff's office. two deputies killed in one night. now, 15 years later their families are trying to convince the parole board to keep their killer locked up. >> i've had a hard time sleeping. i've had a hard time focusing. what am i going to say? i don't know how this is going to play out. >> we spent time with jamie as she wrote her victim impact statement before today's hearing. in 2002 her father and a

were shot and killed by james logan. logan was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2007 but now he's up for parole. >> he need to stay in prison. he needs to serve the whole consecutive time. he killed not only my dad but another officer. so two officers in one night. >> the other deputy's family will also be at the hearing today. let's go to erika gonzalez at the live desk with breaking news. >> we've got some video from the scene that happened about 1:00 in the morning. the fire so intense that it actually damaged the house next door to it as well. this is on symposium way in clinton, maryland. now, police were able to get to the scene quickly enough to be able to alert the family, get everybody out of there, but one -- as we zoom in to one of these shots, that looks like the back corner of the house, maybe the deck area where we see the most damage and again, the fire so intense that it wound up causing some damage to the house next door.

on this weather alert day. one of the big questions today. >> reporter: how withis is cydvg the tidal basin. >> they peak at stage 6. right now peak bloom is expected between march 19th and the 22nd. we want to get another check on weather and traffic. >> i'm a little concerned that if it continues to be this way we might have more issues with the cherry blossoms. >> the cherry trees are going to be fine. >> yes. >> the cherry blossoms which are already dangerous far out at this point are not, i don't think, going to be with stand not just a freeze, but multiple hard freezes over multiple days, so this may not end up being the prettiest cherry blossom season that we've seen.

welcome back. this next story is one you'll only see on news4. a dog walker is accused of stealing packages from homes along her route. she runs a dog walking company called sublime canine. police arrested her last week on larceny charges. police say a resident called them after seeing someone that didn't seem right. >> she grabbed a package off the top of my neighbor's mailbox and tossed it in the back of her car. very nonchalantly and it just seemed odd to me that if she was picking up the mail for somebody, she would have gone inside the mailbox too. >> she's also accused of stealing packages and a $1,500 check. she tells us that she's no longer operating her business.

now that the bill passed two house panels what happens next. >> reporter: it goes on to the house budget committee which is a very big process to determine what the costs are. house speaker paul ryan says this is still on pace to go to the full house floor by the end of the month. he wants to have it on the president's desk by easter. he says this is possible and guarantees actually that they have the republican votes to do it. >> and did passing those two panels actually help get more republican support for this bill? >> reporter: you know, yes and no. there's very vocal opposition within the republican party for this. but yet the president is reaching out to those members and saying that there's a willingness to negotiate on certain things and one of the big sticking points is medicaid. the very conservative part of the republican party wants to draw back the medicaid entitlements even further. the president apparently telling senator ted cruz that that might be a possibility so there may be some wiggle room to get th

i was out running yesterday in 74 degree sunshine and i saw a lot of people out there training, getting their final runs in before the race tomorrow. and all i can tell you, runners, you need to brace for impact, because this is not going to be a pleasant running weather at all. you're going to have to put your big boy shoes on and run tomorrow morning and layer up. it is shedable layers will be a great idea for tomorrow morning as temperatures will struggle mightily to get above the freezing mark tomorrow morning during the race. windchills will be down near 10 degrees. at least it will be dry. all this little rain/snow chance that we're watching here for the first half of the day today, this will come in and move out relatively quickly. only a few sprinkles around d.c. now but already wet rain drops and snow flakes up here across parts of western maryland. west of hagerstown some wet snow there. melissa mollet keeping a close eye on some of the traffic cameras out here. all still dry on most of the

plan on needing the umbrella and the rain gear. here's future weather then bringing that chance of the light rain into the d.c. metro by about 7:00 and then by 9:00, 10:00 we could see a rain/snow combination in the d.c. area. mostly wet snow here across northern maryland. not looking for any big accumulations because the ground is so incredibly warm. but nonetheless, probably might be enough to whiten the grass. all that should come to an end around lunchtime. i couldn't rule out a quick passing rain shower or snow shower during the course of the afternoon. temperatures, don't be fooled. 40s and 50s now. we will fall back down into the 30s this morning and then only stay in the upper 30s and low 40s the rest of the day. tomorrow looks bone chilling cold. windchills near 10 degrees as the rock 'n roll marathon starts tomorrow morning. staying windy and cold all day and we'll keep talking about it a little bit as we get further through the show. spring ahead saturday night
