the rock n' roll marathon tomorrow. they were training in the warmest february on record, it is going to be a shock when temperatures feeling like 15 or 20 degrees. >> there it is right there. a little bit of light snow continuing. the big deal is tuesday. we are talking a potential may skr jur mayor nor'easter and this will have an impact for the entire region. we'll tell you who has the best chance for snow coming up. what's all this brisk cold air leaves for our beloved cherry blossoms. megan, are you hearing anything down there? >> reporter: yeah, chris, like you said, brisk and cold for sure. it is freezing out here. the short answer to your question is, these cherry blossoms could be in danger and here is why. take a look behind us here.

they're starting to bud and you can see the flowers here. they're vulnerable. this national park service tells us if temperatures get to 24 degrees or lower, it is possible that we could lose 90% of the blossoms. >> this is the time of the year that many people look forward to. >> oh my gosh. i love the cherry blossoms. the national park service says take a good look of what's here right now because it is possible that we may not see it bloom. >> if we have a situation where a number of blossoms may not reach full bloom. >> if temperatures dip below 24 degrees, mostly all of these blossoms could die. >> that's leaving out and all these leaves are very tender. >> same is true for outdoor plants. if you cannot move them inside, cover up what you can. >> what uch

20-30 miles per hour tomorrow. then we move into early next week. i want to show you monday. we're tracking two systems is. one down here off the coast of jacksonville. another one making its way our way. we've got the cold air in place, and you need that for a snowstorm. this area of low pressure, the stronger one actually moving all of its energy right off the coast. we see that energy shift all the time here. that's what helps to create a nor'easter. could be a rain/snow line issue right along i-95. but it does look like now from d.c. all the way up towards boston as we make our way into monday night and tuesday. a major nor'easter, a high impact storm for everyone in our area. here's what we know about the storm. most likely, monday night into tuesday, all models now have at least some snow in er

as that system stays south, it keeps the cold air in place. when snow moves in monday night into tuesday, it's sticking, unlike every other event so far this season. it's friday night. i suspect some of you going out to dinner. we're at 46 degrees right now and it is blustery out there. wind gusts from 20-40 miles an hour. and scattered flurries until about 6:00 p.m. we're already down to 34 degrees by 10:00 p.m. tonight, tomorrow night and sunday night are going to have an impact on the cherry blossoms. what we're really watching thursday morning. we could potentially see 90% bloom loss. before we get to thursday, we're talking about tuesday and maybe some school closures. the weather won't have an impact on your travel plan this is weekend, but a couple of big events in the city could

town this weekend that will cause some road closures. first of all, lots of folks going to be headed downtown for the rock 'n' roll washington, d.c. marathon and half marathon. that of course is saturday here. let's take a look at exactly what we're going to be dealing with. most road closures and detours were this will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the marathon starts at 7:00 a.m., constitution avenue and 14th street northwest. if you're heading down by metro, be careful, look at the schedules because of safetrack. for the full list of road closures check out the nbc washington app. here's something else happening this weekend. on sunday, the 2017 st. patrick's day parade downtown. streets there sunday march 12th closed there from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. the parade forming on the national mall and

beautiful 74, sunny yesterday. and today we're talking snow showers. still a couple around the area. some back towards the martinsburg area, others down towards annapolis and portions of calvert county. most of these will die over the next few hours. rain early changing over to some grople and snow as it developed across the region. that storm now moving out. the next one is the one of tuesday. cold air coming in saturday, sunday, right on into monday. that sets the stage for a lot of problems on area roads. that's why we think monday will be open. tuesday we're now expecting schools to be closed as a result of that storm. still too early to say exactly, but we have a pretty good

not a lot of people biting. we're looking at a high likelihood we're going to get at least some snow monday night into tuesday. before we get there, it is going to be a frigid start tomorrow morning. we'll have windchills in the single digits and teens. that's our first headline. then there's that pi winter symptom monday night into tuesday. after that, it's cold next week. we only have highs in the 30s and 40s. the cherry blossoms will be dealing with more frigid temperatures. right now we're at 46 degrees. as we continue on into the evening and overnight hours, temperatures are going to fall into the teens. i want to talk more about this winter storm, what we know right now. the time period looks to be monday night, mainly after that evening commute. and then on into the first half of tuesday. every single computer model has at least some snow for our

a little girl from prince george's county is making a big impression in our community. as if modeling and hosting a radio show weren't enough, she's doing a lot of charitable work helping people stay warm on cold days like this. news4's shomari stone introduces us to this little miracle worker. >> i definitely feel happy and i feel grateful. >> reporter: miracle omar isn't your typical 8-year-old. >> mostly kids just want to have fun. >> reporter: she gets enjoyment from helping people, especially the homeless in northwest d.c. she collected hundreds of socks to help those less fortunate. why did you decide to give the homeless socks? >> because their feet are getting cold. an c

that. >> reporter: this third grader from greenbelt, maryland, started the socks in the box campaign last fall. the prince george's county chamber of commerce recognized her for her charitable work. >> you can do anything. >> reporter: the chair of women in business development says miracle is just that, a miracle. >> everything she does is focused around being of service to others. >> reporter: miracle really wanted to collect a lot of socks. she decided to team up with a gym, planet fitness. she made this sign. take a look at her handwritten note. it roaeads, my goal is to colle 250 pairs of socks. she collected more than 700. >> it was just an honor to work with miracle. >> i really want other kids to see what i'm doing and then they can like stand up and be like, okay, i'm going to do that too. >> reporter: that's what her r
