freezing. thousands of runners poured into the d.c. armory tonight. >> there's that for you. have a great time. >> reporter: they picked up their race packet. >> have a great race. >> reporter: and t-shirts in advance of tomorrow's rock and roll marathon. >> you are all set. have a great race tomorrow. >> reporter: the yearly event winds its way past the buildings and monuments of the nation's capitol. tomorrow's race may be one of the coldest ever. >> here are all your pens. >> i was communicating to all the runners they really need to take care of themselves. that's first and foremost. make sure people are listening to their bodies, make sure they're dressing in layers. >> reporter: organizers spent the day troubleshooting the logistics of a race being run in freezing temperatures. >> the city is going to go through and de-ice the city beforehand on the course to make sure there is no standing water from the day. the otr

attention to is the water stations to make sure the water people are drinking is actually liquid and not solid. >> reporter: runners from all over the country and all over the world are participating. no one we spoke to said they're considering skipping the race because of the cold. they're runners, but some are a little apprehensive. >> i do mind the cold. it will be good. once i start running, once i warm up, i get better. >> reporter: and you heard doug say it. temperature at the 7:00 a.m. race start time, 26 degrees with a wind chill. tough runners are tough people. they're going to need to be tough tomorrow morning. live on the national mall, jackie bensen, news 4. >> it's that waiting around for the race to start that will be the worst part for the runners. thank you, jackie. not looking too good for our cherry blossoms, either. the next two days are crucial for the flowers. about 70% of the cherry

but once we dip below 24 degrees, the buds could freeze. >> if we were to have a situation where a majority or a significant number of them never reach peak bloom, that would be a first. >> reporter: the national park service said they can't definitively say the cherry blossoms won't reach peak bloom, but we should find out more sunday night when nps releases an update. we were supposed to know by december, then the announcement was pushed back to march. now there are real questions if the fbi headquarters will move at all. new tonight, they talk with news 4 shamari stone about the latest delay. >> reporter: they are unhappy tonight. the federal government is postponing their release of plans to relocate the fbi headquarters to maryland or virginia. congress must secure funding first, and that hasn't happened. >> we didn't get a decision in march. we we

but i'm still very confident that i think the fbi consolidated headquarters is going to go to prince georges county. >> reporter: the fbi wants to move out of its outdated headquarters on pennsylvania avenue in d.c. they have two of the potential sites in greenbelt and landover. virginia has one in springfield. the general services administration, also known as gsa, says congress needs to secure the funding. >> all we can do is make sure that our sites are ready and that the things we said we would do it as a county and as a state are done. >> reporter: baker is optimistic. >> we're going to do everything we can to bring that site to prince georges county. >> reporter: we reached out to lawmakers tonight to get reaction about the news. we haven't heard back from them. the gsa does not give a time frame about a final decision. i'm shamari stone, news 4. police say a four-year-old boy will survive after his

the chest. the two boys found a handgun in their house on fall kirk avenue in baltimore. police say they started playing with it examiand it accidentallt off. the father was home at the time and he rushed the little boy to the hospital himself. the little boy is in stable condition. no word yet on charges. today they are reminding you about a cheese recall. it set off a case of listeria with two of them sick and two of them died. it comes from vulto creamery in new york. it was distributed across the country, but mostly in mid h mid-atlantic states, including d.c. six people got sick and two died in january. if you have any of the products, you can return them for a full refund. to see pictures, just type in cheese recall. an officer helped save a family from a house fire. it happened on

clinton overnight. the the family of six, which included a newborn baby, was asleep when that fire started about 1:00 this morning. corporal glen calidori was on patrol. he saw the flames, called for backup, ran to the home and banged on the door. when no one responded, he started banging out the windows. >> i think that finally woke up the homeowners. i heard someone yell, what's going on, who is down there? at that point i yelled, it's police. your house is on fire, you need to get out of there. >> this is really hard. we're just trying to get through. >> reporter: the family is staying with neighbors tonight. fire officials say a grill on a back deck started the blaze. the man convicted of killing two prince georges county deputies will not be paroled. we told you about this story last night. james logan opened fire on sergeant james arneau and deputy elizabeth gruder back in 2002. they were trying to take logan out of his parents' home in

evaluation. today his daughter jamie arneaux was in court to oppose logan's release. he can request parole again in 2019. a physical confrontation between an officer and somebody trying to duck the fare on metro this afternoon. metro police said one of i sts officers tried to stop a fare evader. he followed the suspect down to the platform where there was a struggle. the officer used pepper spray and made an arrest. the suspect will be charged with assaulting a police officer. president donald trump is getting personally involved in mideast peace talks. he spoke with the palestinian president today and invited him to the white house. it's the first time they talked since president trump took office. a spokesperson said they'll meet very soon to talk about peace talks.

benjamin netanyahu sparked a controversy when he said he want wanted. the economy added 235 jobs last month. the unemployment rate fell to 4.7%. today the president embraced those numbers, even though during the obama administration, he called the jobs report one of the biggest hoaxes in modern politics. >> it's a statistic that's full of nonsense. >> it may have been phony in the past, but it's very real now. >> president trump credited his approach to taxes and deregulation for the improved jobs report. nbc news business correspondent ali velshi said the numbers would likely be similar even if trump were not in the white house. 46 u.s. attorneys handed in their resignation letters today and the only two not accepted are from maryland and

the son of mohammad ali said tsa profiled him at reagan international airport today because he's a muslim. >> he says that's the second time that's happened in a month. mohammad ali jr. was leaving d.c. after speaking with members of congress yesterday about that first experience and president trump's travel ban. he said someone at the ticket counter told him he needed to talk to the department o

here's a shot taking a look at the cathedral. look at the numbers. currently 32. winds out of the north at 12 miles an hour. again, the wind chill, that's where it's at. it's all coming from the wind and look at it, it's gusting to 20 miles an hour and these numbers will stay up there throughout the night tonight. winds gusting at 20 miles per hour, and the wind chills right now only in the teens in areas to the north. frederick right now a wind chill of 15 degrees, hagerstown even cooler than that, d.c. 23. we saw some snow showers coming through from time to time during the afternoon, but that was really about it. the winds continued, too, and the snow showers didn't amount to anything. but what this is doing, you can see the flow out of canada. this is bringing in the cold air. this is allowing that cold air to stabilize in our region and kind of sit here. notice the snow out towards iowa. this was the storm that was originally we were thinking a week ago could bring us some snow on sunday. this storm is s

coming up over the next few days. we'll show you that in just a second. 36 degrees. windy and just plain cold. wind chills in the 20s during the day tomorrow, and take a look at the future wind chill. tomorrow morning, how about 8 in gaithersburg, 14 in d.c., 11 in manassas to start off the day. again, we've got the rock and roll marathon tomorrow. 1: 00 in the afternoon, sunshine, only some teens across our region. that cold is entrenched. that storm we talked about for sunday is actually going to be off the coast of the southeast. we'll see another storm move down and actually pick it up and bring it back towards our area as a nor'easter. that brings us the snow along the i-95 corridor. the big question, and the big question with just about every nor'easter we see in our region, where is the rain/snow line. is it along i-95? is it just to the east of i-95? right now i think it would be just east, meaning more snow for the d.c.

something that we'll be watching closely. so a major nor'easter in the offing monday night into tuesday. a high impact event for everybody but still tracking the exact path. what else do we know? monday night into tuesday. yep, all models now have snow and significant snow at that. snow-covered roads as the cold air is already in place. rain/snow line definitely in play with this and this can and will change over the next couple of days. we still have a few days to watch it, but 49 on sunday, 41 on monday. wednesday a high of 31. that overnight low wednesday into thursday would be nd25 a if we get that low, it could be it for the cherry blossoms, unfortunately, until temperatures move back into the 40s. that is the coldest 10-day forecast we've had yet this winter. just amazing. >> you are expecting school delays? >> i think schools will be closed on tuesday and maybe wednesday. >> especially since they haven't used any of their snow

okay, this might be hard to imagine, but truly driverless cars could be on the road by the end of this year. today california proposed new rules to green-light the cars in that state. tech companies and automakers have been testing self-driving cars in california, but regulations require those cars to have steering wheels, pedals and human beings in the driver's seat as a backup. under the new rules, all of that would change. the rules are subject to a public hearing and comment period. regulators hope to put them in effect by january -- i mean, by december. oh, my goodness. >> you have to imagine there's some kids out there who might never learn to drive of t. >> i think that's comiso
