welcome to your monday. i'm aaron gilchrest. >> i'm eun yang. it will be a tough monday, but this time tomorrow you may be enjoying a snow day. we'll get to melissa mollet for that traffic warning, first chuck bell has the storm team 4 forecast. everybody wants to know about the snow. >> looks like a winter wallop coming our way. nothing likely to happen until after the sun goes down today. you have all day today to get things done. make sure you have your errands ready to go. gas up the generators. we do expect at least some power outages. this will not be a powdery snow, this will be a heavy, wet snow. the rain/snow line is in play. snowfall amounts will vary widely. get things done today. temperatures will be above freezing. upper 30s and low 40s. plenty of sunshine for much of the day. storm impacts, just about everybody gets an inch. the overwhelming majority of the area gets between 4 and 8 inches of snow.

coming in this afternoon. could be a little wet rain/snow combination south and east of i-95. don't have any advisories in calvert or st. mary's county. however there's quite a bit of snow in the forecast. a solid 4 to 8 inches inside the beltway. 8 to 12 inches for much of western fairfax, loudoun and montgomery counties. a lot of places in northern maryland and the panhandle of west virginia have a chance of getting more than a foot of snow. melissa mol llet has more troub for inbound travels. chopper 4 over indian head highway at beltway. now after the beltway, we are shut down. the chopper showing you a live look there. look at that traffic there headed inbound. it has started to build here in the past couple of minutes. all lanes blocked there due to the investigation. you can use oxon hill road and livingston to get

as you widen out to the rest of the beltway, beltway is okay. inbound 66 at the rosslyn tunnel, we have that crash. green line, normal service resumed. we'll look at some travel times coming up. thank you. we want to take you live to that closure melissa mentioned on indian head highway. >> justin finch is live on the scene. what's going on now? rn >> we could see a reopening soon. prince george's police remain on scene after hours of investigating. two vehicles were involved in this, a mercedes suv, a dodge sedan. we know that close to 1:00 this morning that dodge sedan was going northbound on indian head highway, at some point it collided with

sparking a fire to the dodge that sedan driver was hospitalized. the suv driver is expected to recover. back out live here, there's still some wide debris fields out here, a sign toppled in the island. southbound indian highway lanes have not been affected by the crash or the investigation. as you can see, it's still taped off despite both vehicles being gone. this area could reopen soon. live in oxon hill, justin finch, news 4. back into you. >> thank you. let's take a live look outside right now. hard to imagine, but at this time tomorrow we'll be seeing a lot of snow on the ground. today in d.c., 200 salt trucks will hit the streets to coat the roads with salt. this afternoon, mayor bowser will hold a news conference to talk about the plan heading into tomorrow. vdot trucks started laying down brine on highways over the weekend. officials say the mixture will break down the first couple inches of snow. if you live in an area where this m

the crews have not started pretreating roads. they'll lay down that salt once the changeover to snow happens. vdot is asking people who don't have to be out on the roads today and tomorrow to stay home. storm team 4 predicting one to two inches of snow could fall every hour once the storm begins. >> montgomery county is bracing for some of the most snow. our meteorologists say 6 to 12 inches could fall in that area. county executive ike leggett says every inch of snow costs the county $1 million to clear. >> we have a plan. i hope we don't have to utilize the plan to the fullest extent. it means we'll be hit with a great deal of snow, ice and wind. >> the snow is expected to be heavy and wet, which could mean power outages as well. >> this storm could have or will have a bigger impact to our north. molette green has a look at how other places are trying to get ad

prince, to collect $500,000 in life insurance money. prosecutors say he also killed his ex-girlfriend and his mother, however a judge is banning any evidence from those deaths in the current trial. the man who is accused of jumping the white house fence friday night is expected to be in court today. the secret service says jonathan tran who is from california, made it on to the south grounds before he was arrested. he claimed to be a friend of the president and said he had an appointment. according to court documents, police found two cans of mace on him. he is charged with entering restricted grounds while carrying or using a dangerous weapon. we could get to the bottom of president trump's wiretapping claim today. that's one of several headlines we're following from the white house and capitol hill. lawmakers are asking the justice department to produce evidence today to back up the president's claim. last weekend president trump

okay. not so great news because of the weather, the cherry blossoms are in danger because of this latest cold snap. the national park service says anything below 27 degrees can damage them. the tidal basin may spare the blossoms by acting as a thermal blanket to the trees. chuck bell is monitoring the forecast closely because of the snow heading our way. >> the blossoms will take a hit, but the trees themselves will be okay. the blossoms this season are in grave danger. the open waters do have a bit of a moderating effect, but look how much colder it is as you get away from the water. it's back to the upper teens and low 20s this morning. afternoon highs today, this is not the problem. the problems roll in tonight and by this time tomorrow it

66 inbound, 95 northbound, quantico to the beltway, you're okay. 270 fine. top of the beltway looking good. listen to wtop 103.5 fm when you hop in your car today. at least 38 people are dead and several more hurt after a bus plowed into dozens of street musicians in haiti yesterday. the driver was speeding away from a hit-and-run accident. they say he initially pit two people at a bus stop at a town in the northern part of that country. one of those two people was killed. developing this morning, threats continue at jewish centers across the country. a jcc outside of rochester, new york is back open after it received a second bomb threat in a week. that's one of six threats made yesterday. so far this year, 130 threats have been made across centers nationwide including in maryland and virginia. ferguson, missouri back in the news today.

video of michael brown and new protests today. molette green at the live desk with what's going on. >> demonstrations overnight, they focused on a food market. >> protect, whoo we have to protect us? >> the crowds chanted outside the store that 18-year-old michael brown visited before a police officer shot him. new video that is part of a new documentary raises some different questions here, possibly challenging the police narrative that brown committed a strong-armed robbery at the store. this is video from the documentary, stranger fruit, which claims brown was making a drug deal at store, not robbing it. police saying they cannot confirm its authenticity, but that it is not relevant to the investigation. brown's shooting 2 and a half years ago sparked protests there

it's the fight on the speedway. a lot of people will be talking about this today. this happened at the monster energy nasz car cup series in las vegas this weekend. joey logano ran into kyle busch's car in one of the last turns. after the race, busch went after logano. he was tackled by his crew. he was pulled away with a bloody forehead. >> can you spell success? >> we want to congratulate everybody who took part in the annual fairfax county spelling bee. this happened yesterday at lanier middle school. there were 65 contestants from around the county. they took turns spelling tough words like insulburg, nockmusic and the winning word was sorral or something like that. this year's champion said winning was bitter sweet.

8:00 p.m. after that all bets are off. once you get past 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 tonight, things will go downhill and fast. look at that stream of headlights there. a busy day today. we can get snow in march. we had snow every march for the last three years in a row. i haven't been able to dig up yet if we had snow after our first 80 degree day which occurred on march first. wow, is it cold. the ground is frozen solid again and ready to receive snowfall. storm impacts, i think, everybody gets at least an inch. most everybody will get 4 inches or more. i think at least half of the news 4 nation, areas north and west of 95 get at least eight inches of snow. there will be pockets up in northern maryland, towards the northern end of the shenandoah

amounts of the storm. there is the area of low pressure moving into sweftdouth iowa. winter storm watches and warnings are up. here's future weather to help you time it out. by 8:00 tonight, nothing to worry about. the storm is going up the coast. so the bad weather starts here in washington and then eventually goes up to philly, new york and boston. so, as far as snow, everyone should be getting in on some combination of rain. but mostly snow by 10:00. the real catch in the forecast, that's the rain/snow line. that area of pink, that's the transition between all snow, north and west to almost all rain down across parts of southeastern maryland. so, there's going to be a big range. could get our first inch of snow before midnight tonight. by the time all is said and done, 12 inches er more, frederick, hague

rail service. so we don't know how much will fall and where, but that's something to keep an eye on if the snow total starts to get above 8 inches. metro has already started to make changes. metro access will stop running today at 4:00. certainly with the snow falling tomorrow you can plan there will be a bunch of changes. from an airport perspective, my goodness. a lot of people getting out of dodge already before this thing hits. we have already seen widespread delays and cancellations in other parts of the country, specifically chicago. we caught up with a couple people here today who consider themselves a bit lucky to be getting out before all this starts. >> not particularly. not supposed to snow until later tonight. i figured i would be okay. >> just fortunate. it's our first big snowstorm, luck of the draw, i guess. >> you're looking live at the

republican plan to replace the affordable care act could come as early as today. all eyes will be on the justice department today. >> that's because lawmakers demand they face an important deadline. molette green has more on this. >> this goes back to president trump's explosive allegation a week ago, and that is that president obama trumped the phones in trump tower before the election. the deadline is today for the justice department to turn over evidence backing up the president's claim. one high-profile republican asking president trump to prove the allegation. >> the president has one or two choices, either retract or provide the information that the american people deserve. >> a spokesman for former president obama has denied the accusations. this is likely to be a topic when kellyanne conway appears on "the today show." you can watch that interview here on

forecast because the rain/snow line will be in play. here's the way it will break out on future weather. by 8:00 tonight, what should start out as light rain or light snow, primarily light snow up think 11:00. during the overnight hours tonight and tomorrow, 2:00 a.m. tomorrow, the green is rain. calvert, charles, st. mary's county. the blue is all snow. the rain/snow line is on that area of pink. any wobbling of that rain/snow line north or south will impact snow amounts across the area. what we can say with the most confidence is that southern maryland may get next to nothing. northern maryland, northern shenandoah valley could get a foot or more. inside the beltway, about 4 and 8 inches of snow. the whole snow forecast and the ten-day coming up at 6:51. >> it is hard to imagine but by this time tomorrow we'll all be seeing a lot of snow on the ground.

investigation. justin? >> good morning. traffic reopened here close to 6:30 or so this morning after crews came through and doused those areas where fuel spilled on the road. with traffic moving again, the focus moves to what caused this crash in the first place. looking at have from earlier, we have two vehicles involved here, a mercedes suv and a dodge sedan. prince george's county police spent hours surveying both vehicles before towing them away. this all begins close to 1:00 this morning with that dodge sedan going northbound on indian head highway. at some point it struck that mercedes suv and then a fire breaks out. the brunt of that blaze borne by that sedan. the suv driver is expected to recover. both vehicles taking heavy front-end damage in this crash. back out live, we have traffic moving on both sides of ind
