first the flakes, now the refreeze. >> take a live look at just one of the many roadways we're keeping our eyes on this morning. thanks to plummeting overnight temperatures it could be a dicey commute into work for a lot of you today. it is 4:00 a.m. we're on early with you this morning. i'm aaron gilchrist. >> and i'm eun yang. the whole team is here with you as well. >> we'll check in with everyone in the next few minutes here. >> but first the refreeze means a lot of you will not have to worry about getting your kids out the door early to school yet. all the yellow you see on this map shows counties with a two-hour delay.

at this point. prince william county. manassas city schools are closed today. >> fairfax county schools, d.c. schools, prince george's and montgomery county schools are opening two hours late. in maryland, frederick county, charles county, anne arundel and washington county schools are also on a two-hour delay. >> loudoun, shenandoah and culpepper county schools are opening two hours late as well. >> in west virginia, berkeley, hampshire, hardy and grant schools are on a two-hour delay. allegheny county schools in maryland are closed for a staff professional development day. that's why it's purple on the map. not because of weather. >> we are waiting to hear from everything that's in gray here. of course, all the school closings and delays are scrolling at the bottom of your screen. federal agencies in the

today on time we're told. the office of personnel management says employees are expected to report to their work sites or start telework today. >> sheena, why don't you start us off this morning? >> it is cold outside this morning and a lot of people probably watching are still in bed, but wait until you step outside. look as we go through the day today. this is as we go through the next 18 hours. temperatures this morning, well below freezing. high temperatures just below freezing. and then we drop back into the 20s overnight. so it is very cold this morning. it's also windy and that could some passing snow showers. we could see some lake effect snow showers trying to blow in today. nothing around right now, but we do have ice out there. so again, we were telling you about this yesterday. refreezing. now, aside from that we have these strong winds making it feel a lot colder. winddv

winds could be gusting near 55 miles an hour. speaking of feeling colder, pour chuck bell is outside this morning. it's freezing. >> it sure is. i wish i had the flap down option on my hat because the coldest part of me are just the tips of my ears. current windchills are way down into the single numbers. how about 1 the feels like factor in hagerstown this morning. a balmy 11 here in d.c. and 15 the windchill down in fredericksburg. northwest winds as you were mentioning, that will keep windchills in the teens to around 20 all afternoon even with a sliver or two of sunshine. so not a pretty day to be outside and of course, everything that you're going to need to know about driving and getting around today, if it looks wet

ice first thing this morning. use extreme care. melissa mollet, not a lot of traffic on the roads just yet but this could be a slippery go. >> it could be slippery. we are seeing those icy patches though the main roads looking generally pretty good. right now bradley boulevard between river road, blocking lanes both directions this morning. inner loop before st. barnabas, a crash blocking two lanes. so the beltway is rolling along just fine but we do have that problem inner loop there near st. barnabas. 32 near 95, a crash blocking the left lane this morning. cedarville road east of 301 blocked each way because of those downed wires here right now and something further to the south here in charles county, oliver shop road, lanes blocked again, tree down there. aaron? >> all right. thank you. we're just learning that jefferson county public schools are on a two-hour delay today. we

transportation reporter, adam tuss. >> you spent the entire day driving the roads for us yesterday. what do you think today? compare and contrast. >> reporter: well, listen, there's not a snowstorm happening right now, but there is a lot of ice out here this morning. you guys were talking about it. we're in vienna right now and you can see off to the side here what we're dealing with. this camera angle here gives you a really good look at what's on the side here. the icy crunch that we're all dealing with now. a lot of people did the right thing. they shovelled their driveways and walkways but a lot of that stuff melted yesterday and what's really happening is when you come over a little hill or a little kre little crest and you get to the bottom of the hill you start to see everything ice up where everything came to the bottom. right here is a really good example. at the bottom of this hill all

to the bottom here and has frozen overnight. doug was talking about a flash freeze last night and that's kind of what we're seeing out here this morning so be aware of that. just give yourself a little bit of extra caution walking to your car. that could be the biggest challenge this morning because this stuff is out here and it is icy and crunchy and you are going to be dealing with it, so give yourself extra time this morning and definitely be careful out there. a good thing that a lot of people are on a two-hour delay this morning. we'll be driving around again all day today. if you've got an issue, tweet me and i'll come find you. >> now we want to head northwest of the district to frederick, maryland. >> justin finch is there for us this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. very cold out here in frederick county. we're just out here by the mall and perhaps you can see the wind blowing in the distance back here. i want to show you the lanes here. they are looking

in this immediate area we haven't seen substantial areas. however, on the way here and further out you will likely see some slushy icy patches. we certainly saw those on 270 and perhaps you can see that flag whipping in this cold wind out here. we do know for sure it's definitely freezing but i can tell you based on the feels like factor i would say it feels like single digits and that brings us to what i am standing in right now. this hard icy snow right here. i'm stepping rather hard just to make an impression into it and you pick it up and you're getting these blocks of ice out here. these are a few of the factors that you'll be encountering as you make your way out on to the roads. we do know drivers in this area do have long commutes. they get up early and they are adding extra time into their commutes this morning and you definitely need to give in this changeable conditions that you may find on the roads this

sidewalks are in trouble in some places too so be careful all around and layer up. i'm justin finch, back in to you. metro is expected to open in less than an hour now. >> the rails will be running on a normal schedule. there are some buses to tell you about. expect regular weekday service but safe track single tracking is still happening on the yellow and blue lines. metro bus will start the morning with a moderate snow service plan. that means some routes are suspended while others may be detoured around hazardous conditions. and you should have no problem taking a local commuter line today. they're back on a regular schedule as well. if you need to take am track to places like new york city or boston, expect a modified schedule there. >> the airports are up and running as you take a look at

windchills down in the singles this morning. >> when you walk outside if you have any exposed skin, that's not good. i mean, it feels like 11 degrees right now in the district. some areas are feeling like single digits currently. the actual temperature is 23 but it's the wind that's making us feel so cold and that's the way it's going to be as we go through the rest of the day today. a chance of passing flurries but we're talking about the wind advisory. aside from the cold today winds will be gusting close to 55 miles an hour. that's going to make it a blustery day. let's take a closer look at those winds. >> yes, indeed. be ready for extra layers this morning. any exposed skin is going to feel the bite from mother nature this morning. the skies are partly to mostly clear outside early on. not looking for a big issue weather size today outside of the wind and the cold. future wind gusts, these are the forecasted wind gusts in miles per hour. 25 to 35-mile-per-hour here on you

gusts over 30 miles per hour possible and that wind will be with us all day today. it will lay down a little bit tonight. that will help it make it all the colder by tomorrow morning. for now let's go over to melissa mollet. what you got today? >> inner loop at st. barnabas road, chuck, again, main roads look quite good here this morning. we are hearing about a crash blocking two lanes. we aren't seeing it right here but we'll let you know if we start seeing any big slowdowns there on the beltway this morning. eastbound 32 at 95, a crash was blocking the left lane and that is out of the way. you don't have to worry about that one any longer this morning. bradley boulevard between river road and seven locks, closest there is ken dale. we do have a pole and wires down. we'll see if we can get our eyes on it. let's give you another look at some of the roads this morning. a lot of the main roads are in pretty

in 1932. we've already set quite a few warm weather records this year and on average in the world of changing climate we set about 10 records -- warm records to every one low cold record so very unusual for sure. currently only 23 in washington with a west wind at 14. that's keeping the feels like factor down at 11 in and around the city, but where temperatures are a little lower in the suburbs, windchills are correspondingly lower as well. what to wear today. your heaviest coat, your warmest hat, your scarf and your warmest gloves. just know that it is not going to be much melting today. we will get a little sunshine from time to time, but not enough to really do much in the way of warmup good. afternoon temperatures today, again, staying in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees. a passing snow flurry or a snow shower, can't rule it out, but the real issue with today will be the winds. northwest winds 25 to

again, afternoon temperatures today hovering only in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees. not a lot of snow chances for today. just a couple of downwind streamers here coming off the lake. that's about all we have to concern ourselves so just enough for a passing snow flurry or a snow shower, that's it. the next couple of days, the warming starts kind of sort of coming back in as we head toward later on in the week. then tomorrow highs only in the upper 30s to around 40. still breezy tomorrow but not as windy as today. a little milder on friday but clouds coming back in and a risk for showers primarily the first half of the weekend. it will be rain, not snow showers. temperatures up close to 60 on saturday if only the sun would be out. >> the sun will come out at some point. st. barnabas road, we did have that crash. they said it was blocking two lanes. now we're hearing that it's clear which would explain why i'm not seeing anything here in the camera this morning. bradley boulevard bet

we are shut down because of a pole and wires down. major cut through i know for a lot of people. taking a look at the inner and outer loop of the beltway, everything rolling along quite nicely. we're not seeing anything there. so that is good. reminder in charles county, oliver shop road, a lane still blocked because of a tree down there. >> thank you. if you've ever fallen on ice you know it can hurt. you can break something. >> as you step out the door this morning you can bet there's going to be a lot of ice. please be careful. here are a few tips from a stunt man on how to avoid falling down first. don't kick your legs back while you're walking. take small steps and keep your legs in front of you. >> next you want to stand up straight and keep your chest in line with your legs while you're walki walking. doing that will help you keep your balance. >> be sure to keep your

4:23. a look at four things to know this morning. the white house has confirmed that president trump paid $38 million in federal income tax in 2005 on income of $153 million. this came after the maddow show on msnbc said it would release the details of that tax return. it came from the founder of d.c. report.org. he says that he received the return in the mail. it's important to note that this return only reflects one year. the white house said it was quote, illegally published. tray ty potts will have more coming up. firefighters braved the cold to put out a house fire on blue meadow road. temperatures dropped into the 20s. metro -- or montgomery county fire officials say no one was hurt but five people were displaced. >> we'll learn whether t
