single digits. >> and don't be surprised if you see a snow flurry or two today. good morning, everybody. it is going to be tough to get out of those warm covers this morning. >> we feel your pain. first this morning we want to get you caught up on the closures and the delays. a lot of these to tell you about. closures first. a moment ago loudoun county school said they will now be closed. loudoun county schools closed. >> prince william county. frederick county, virginia. hampshire county and manassas city schools are also closed. >> if you have kids in d.c. public schools, fairfax county, montgomery or prince george's county, arlington county, all those are on a two-hour delay today. frederick county, charles, howard, anne arundel and washington counties all on a two-hour delay as well. >> shenandoah, culpepper, warren,

10 is what it feels like in the district. dulles, 8 degrees is what it feels like in leesburg. be ware of ice on the roadways. we do have a lot of ice on the shoulders and if it looks wet it's probably frozen. temperatures around 30 for a high but feeling colder with the wind for a closer look at what you need to know let's head over to chuck. >> that's right. a good day for making snowmen yesterday. the king family did a fine job putting a snowman and it looks like a snow woman together there. blue scarf, pink scarf. there's precious little in the way of a warmup coming so four things to know about the weather. number one, baby, it's cold outside. watch out for the icy spots this morning. colder than average weather for today, tomorrow and friday. by the time we get to the weekend a little bit warmer but it looks like a rain chance coming up on saturday as well. what to wear to,

your scarf, anything you do and of course rocks in the pockets it's going to be windy as well. >> layer it up. i'm good at that. taking a look right now chopper 4 in silver spring here. eastbound randolph road, you can see the crash and response here on the right side of the roadway so you are still getting by but you can see a little bit of debris in the roadway there. so be careful again. we do have icy patches here and there. 95 south, right side of the roadway here is still blocked. eastbound 66, roes veosevelt br. travel times in ten. >> thanks. cleanup is underway across the northeast after that fast and powerful winter storm. the noreaster is blamed for at least two deaths. >> the storm forced schools and businesses to close from virginia to maine.

the aftermath of that storm and the impact here. >> transportation reporter is back out in the storm team 4 x 4 monitoring the black ice conditions so we begin with justin finch live in maryland. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. right off of the pike, you can see traffic is moving at this hour. drivers finding clear roads compared to what they saw out here yesterday. right by us we see some salt still out here on the road. you can see that salt right there. but we also have found slick patches like these and that's what you want to look out for if you are driving out this morning. yes, beware that most of the roads appear to have been cleared out. but you may still find some slick patches out there. also too, this intense cold we're feeling has effected that. it is now hard as rock in some places, just compacted ice and snow. we are speaking to drivers this morning and many of them telling us

winter weather was going to finally be done after we saw those warm temperatures in recent weeks but now it seems mother nature is saying think again. >> i thought we had all that warm weather, the last two or three weeks, so this is a big surprise to me. >> reporter: a big surprise not only to that driver but many who live in the frederick county area. all of them thinking that it was going to be a nice go of warm weather after last month. however, things have changed up with this snow and today especially layer up as much as possible. your gloves are going to be clutch. we had our gloves off for a few minutes and our fingers felt as if they were going to go numb. don't do that today. stay very warm. we're live in frederick county, back in to you. >> thank you. slick and treacherous

can be found throughout the area following yesterday's storms. >> we're joined live now in the storm team 4 x 4 with a look at some of these side roads and parking lots causing problems in maryland. >> reporter: that's right. we're in gaithersburg. you heard sheena talking about it feels like 1 degree here. this is a perfect demonstration of black ice. check it out right here. we'll give you a really good look at what you could be dealing with in certain parking lots here as you try to get through. the 4 x 4 slipping and sliding on this stuff as we try to get around this parking lot and it's a tough go in certain stretches. now, listen, a lot of the main roads are in really good shape. the road crews did a really good job on these main roads here. we're about to pop off on to shady grove road but that's just an example. in a parking lot like that kind of the stuff that you could come across. that is something to be concerned about as you head out and about. just be careful. maybe if you park ur

of coffee, beware that a lot of the parking lots and side streets may look like that. shady grove looking really good. the road crews are doing a very good job of cleaning things up and getting us back to where we need. a commute shaping up this morning so you'll have extra traffic out here on the roads but we're eping an eye on all of it for you. for the most part looking very good and we'll continue to monitor the situation for you guys. back to you. >> it's 6:07. taking public transportation should not be an issue today. >> metro says all stations are open and all lines are running. expect regular weekday service but remember, safe track single tracking is still happening on the yellow and blue lines. also metro bus is running with regular service but there could be could be a few delays if drivers run into slick or snowy spots. you should have no problem taking a local commuter rail lines today. if you need to

places including new york city or boston, expect a modified schedule. right now the airports around the area are all up and running. there are a handful of cancellations to know about though. more than 100 flights leaving reagan national were cancelled. this only accounts for 10 to 15% of all flights, but make sure you call or go online and check things out before you head to the airport. the snow brought near whiteout conditions in connecticut where an elderly man was killed by a plow. police in new hartford say the driver is distraught and is cooperating with investigators. if you are still waiting for a snowplow to come to your neighborhood there is a way to track them in the nbc washington app. search snowplow tracker. we are getting a

federal income tax return. >> it was mailed to the founder of dc report.org and released in an exclusive last night on msnbc and here are four things you need to know about it. it shows that mr. trump paid $38 million in federal income tax 12 years ago on more than $150 million in income. he reported $103 million in business losses. and it shows he paid an effective tax rate of 24.5%. it's important to note that this return only reflects one year. the white house confirmed the report before it aired last night. despite this substantial income figure and tax paid, it is totally illegal to steal and publish tax returns. federal judges in maryland and hawaii will hold hearings today on whether to block president trump's revised travel ban. it goes into effect tomorrow. in maryland, the aclu

morning. 8 in manassas. only the feels like factor of 7 in martinsburg. the daily grade grade is an f for freezing cold. today's high only 30 degrees. that will be the coldest march 15th on record. sheena is back with a check on the forecast which includes milder weather in time for the weekend. i hear there is trouble on i-95. >> who told you that? # 5 south here at fairfax county parkway, still have the two ways blocked. eastbound randolph road here, chopper 4 in silver spring, still have the right side blocked there. 270 is okay. top of the beltway, no major problems when we look at travel times. remember to listen to wtop 103.5 fm when you hop in your car today. seven students in pennsylvania had to be taken to

snowstorm caused their school bus to overturn. look at that. the bus is on its side. it was carrying mostly elementary school students when it became stuck in a 4-foot ditch after sliding around a tight curve. none of the kids was seriously injured. the accident is under investigation. all the way up in maine where the temperatures are in the 20s and right now more than 20 inches of snow is on the ground in some spots. the storm hammered new england. >> it created blizzard conditions and a few even died. we're live in boston now where another freezing windy morning is ahead. good morning. >> reporter: i think i'm speaking on beof the eastern united states, we would love february back. remember how nice it was in february? what happened? it switched months in through here as temperatures in the teens, our windchills in the single digits and we've got

14.4 inches of snow in massachusetts. but that was fourth all-time for any single day in the month and we had several 30 plus inch amounts especially across northern vermont, new york and even north eastern pennsylvania. i-# 5 obviously fairing better but the problems offense yesterday, we had thousands of flights cancelled. already at logan airport 150 flights cancelled as well and still we have power out annals still this morning. some 5 to 10,000 customers new hampshire and massachusetts without power. so as is typical for a big storm, it takes a couple of days to not only get power back but it will be tricky for the airlines as well. more snow in the forecast. >> brutal. >> what's going on here? >> we want february back too. it was nice and warm compared to

here. over the weekend we'll be closer to 60 degrees. that is going to come with some rain though. gaithersburg feels like 2 degrees. if you're in clinton, you feel like 4. in the district we feel like 10 degrees. so if you're exercising today, well, you're very brave because temperatures will only reach about 30 degrees so it will feel colder with the wind and beware of the ice out there. we have a lot of ice around and we could see a few passing flurries. winds are gusting anywhere from 20 to 30 miles per hour. this afternoon closer to 45 to 55 with a wind advisory and there's some lake effect snow trying to move down from the north and west and i think there's a good chance we could see some of those passing flurries. 30 for the high temperature. make sure you cover any exposed

we ooel ear talking about single digit feels like temperatures. gaithersburg, you are close to feeling like zero. 2 degrees, that's the feels like temperature there. 4 degrees in dulles. if you are manassas your temperature feels like 8 degrees and it's going to feel very cold today. 7:00 a.m., actual ltemperatures low 20s. by noon maybe a passing snow shower. even by 3:00 p.m. but keep in mind it is going to be windy today and highs will only be around 30 degrees but the wind will make it feel colder than that. we have a wind advisory for everybody. winds could be gusting near 45 to 55 miles per hour. let's check the roads this morning because ice is a concern. >> it is. and we have had some reports of some problems. patchy spots here and there. overall the main roads look great and those crews really did a good job especially overnight as we waited for that refreeze. 95 southbound at fairfax coty

so this is all the kids want to know about. you've got to go to the nbc washington app to see everything that is closed or delayed today. we also have the changes running at the bottom of your screen this morning so here are some of the major ones. loudoun, prince william, frederick county schools in virginia are closed today. d.c. schools, fairfax county schools, montgomery, prince george's and arlington county schools, you are in for a two-hour delay this morning. also delayed, charles county. frederick county, maryland, howard and anne arundel and these are all scrolling at the bottom of your screen this morning. it is a tradition for so many of our families in our area and around the world to see the famous cherry blossoms along the tidal basin, but this year we

>> darcy spencer is live along the tie tall basin with more on why those blossoms could die. >> reporter: well, good morning. the cherry blossom festival was supposed to start today but the national park service put out a release yesterday saying it wasn't going to happen. they couldn't get out here and set up because of all the snow and the ice yesterday. not to mention the cold, so the festival is going to happen this weekend. and we're watching closely to see what this weather is doing to the blossoms. let me show you one of the trees here along the tidal basin, you can see some of the peak blooms that are already out. when the temperature hits 24 degrees and below, there's a potential for 90% of the pink petals to die. it is a huge tradition. the national park service

this would be the first time in the history of the cherry blossoms that we don't reach peak bloom. we have a team of people watching closely and at this point hoping for a miracle that we will reach peak bloom this year but it's very possible what you're seeing could be the end of it. most of what we see this year unfortunately and this is obviously a big draw not only for people who live here in the d.c. area, but people travel from all over the world to come here and see the blossoms. so we're watching and waiting to see what the weather does, the cold especially in the wind today. just like those cherry blossoms, some of your favorite summer fruit are being threatened by the cold. strawberry farmers in virginia beach say the plants are normally door mabt this time of year but a worm february caused them to bud early.

blueberries are also at risk. what are we going to do? >> got to get them from somewhere else. president trump's travel ban goes into effect tomorrow. but those against it are hoping to block it. >> a federal judge maryland and hawaii will hold hearings today on lawsuits challenging the ban. in greenbelt, the aclu and other groups will argue the revised ban has the same legal flaws as the original executive order. the justice department says the revised order avoids the legal problems that blocked the first one. the marine corps's top officers face their first grilling from senators yesterday. the big question now is how this scandal could happen under their command. the photos were allegedly posted to a 30,000 member group. marines united. marines say that roughly
