welcome to today on this wednesday morning. we had the weather storm yesterday and we're back to politics this morning. >> what a difference a night can make. a lot to cover in politics. it's our top story this morning. >> let's get right to it. we're getting rare look at some of president trump's tax returns. documents he refused to release during the campaign. there's also new fallout over the republicans' plan to replace obamacare. and the president's claims that phones at trump tower were wire tapped. nbc's peter alexander is at the white house with more on all of this, good morning. >> good morning to you, we're getting reaction from president trump as we speak. moments ago he tweeted questioning how a reporter went to his mail box and found mr. trump's tax returns. the president calls it fake news. the white house says the leaked 2005 form reinforces what donald trump's been saying all along, he's an incredibly successful businessman. it's refocusing a spotlight on mr. trump's unwillingness to turn

senator whitehouse have given director comey a deadline of today to let you know whether there is an active investigation into russian ties to the trump campaign. a, is it true. b, do you think you'll get that information today? >> yes, two weeks ago we met with director comey who i like and admire and told him bitt 15th we would like to know if there's an active criminal investigation because congress shouldn't interfere. we're going to have a hearing on russia, i don't want to bump into a criminal investigation if there is one. in terms of the letter we wrote, i want an answer. the fbi and department of justice last week, for any evidence of a warrant that would allow wire tapping. >> if it doesn't happen the fbi is about to screw up big time, what happens if they don't comply? >> congress will flex its muscle here. senator grassley has

subpoena to get the information. we'll hold up the deputy attorney general's nomination until congress is provided with information to clear the air as to whether or not there was a warrant issued against the trump campaign. >> number one you're saying director comey should tell you whether there is even an investigation into trump campaign ties to russia. number two, the issue we're talking about, theresident made an accusation against then president obama that he wire tapped his phones. you have asked the fbi to produce evidence for a warrant, application for a warrant any requests to surveil trump or trump tower. do you think you'll get the information today? >> if we don't get it today, congress will ramp up pressure. there are two different questions. is there an investigation. because i need to know before i move forward into investigating russia from a congressional lane. i don't want to interfere with a criminal investigation if there is one.

though here who are waking up to all this snow. back to you guys. >> all right. miguel almanguer, thank you. the storm is still having a major impact on air travel coast to coast. cancellation of thousands of flights. how are the airlines getting back on track? gabe gutierrez is at la guardia airport for us. >> the airlines are scrambling to catch up. but there's virtually no lines behind me. the challenge will be rebooking all of the stranded passengers. on tuesday there were more than 6,200 canceled flights across the country. today, more than a thousand flights have been canceled. the major airports that are impacted here in the northeast are the new york city airports, la guardia, newark and jfk as well as baltimore and boston. as we take a look at the misery map, you can see it's mostly clear but there is red popping up in the new york city airports an
