explosive day. headlines coast to coast plastered as the head of the fbi denounced the wiretapping allegations. >> i have no information that supports the tweets and we have looked carefully inside the fbi. the department of justice has asked me to share with you that the answer is the same for the department of justice and all its components. >> comby added his name to rebuking the president's claim but not before dropping another bombshell that the trump campaign has been under investigation since last july in connection with russia's meddling in the 2016 election. >> i have been authorized by the department of justice to confirm that the fbi as part of our counter intelligence mission is investigating the russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election and that includes investigating the nature

individuals associated with the trump campaign and the russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and russia's efforts. >> it all came as comey testified at the house panel that revelation under revelation slowly undermining the president's credibility. nbc's andrea mitchell has more on this. >> reporter: james comey not only saying there's no evidence to back the president's tweets claiming president obama had my wires tapped in trump tower, but also saying it's not even possible. >> so president obama could not unilaterally order a wiretap of anyone? >> no president could. >> reporter: add to mr. trump's tweets that this is mccarthyism and presumably the fbi. >> were you engaged in mccarthyism. >> try very hard not to engage in any isms including mccarthyism. they wiretapped him for obama ridiculous? would you agree?

mitchell reporting. despite the bombshell news coming out of washington, mr. trump made no mention of the revelations while holding a campaign rally in louisville, kentucky. he remained fixed on health care. >> thursday is our chance to end obamacare and the obamacare catastrophe and begin delivering the reforms our people deserve. >> overnight the republicans unveiled changes to that health care plan. those changes include accelerating the repeal of obamacare taxes to 2017 rather than 2018. also giving states more flexibility in how they want to use their medicare program. in addition to punting on how to deal with older health care consumers ages 50 to 64. they could see premiums rise substantially according to the congressional budget office. the changes come hours ahead of the president's visit to c

scary moments when the driver of a chuck wagon fell at a race at rodeo houston. officials were able to stop the race after the run away wagon narrowly avoided hitting the driver on the ground. the man was take zwroen a hospital for evaluation. leading the news, hundreds of families of 911 victims filed a federal consolidated lawsuit against saudi arabia seeking monetary damages. they claim the saudi government helped pay for its terror attacks through the alleged funding of al qaeda camps as well as transporting money, people and weapons around the world. this was prohibited until congress passed a new law in september. president obama unsuccessfully vetoed the law. people in tennessee are asking the public's help. they want to find an allegedly kidnapped 15-year-old student who hasn't been seen in a week. elizabeth thomas'sic

there you see it. in today's quick hits officials in south sudan say a passenger plane hit a fire truck and caught fire while landing in low visibility. amazingly all 49 passengers and crew got out in time. 37 of them were taken to local hospitals. oil could be flowing through the dakota access pipeline this week after a federal appeals court rejected an emergency request by two native american tribes to stop it. the pipeline will carry oil more than 1,000 miles from north dakota to illinois. and a toddler is getting a lot of online attention due to her striking resemblance to

another problem here southbound 95 affair fax county parkway. left lane getting by. this tractor trailer fire, sounds like the brakes are on fire there so we'll try and get more information about that one. northbound d.c. 295 at benning road here northeast, work zone blocking the right lane this morning. beltway is looking quite good. we'll take a look at that problem on 95 coming up here in just a minute. this morning police in northern virginia are trying to track down dozens of stolen guns that could now be on the streets. >> two of the men arrested in stealing the weapons are also suspected in a d.c. burglary. over the weekend police arrested three men for burglarizing three gun stores in three days. they used surveillance video to connect the crimes. police say the same white u-haul van showed up at all three surveillance tapes. atf ape gents tracked down the men, followed the
