several area gun stores. and a plane for metro users. why walk on the left, stand on the right could become a thing of the past. new claims this morning that there was some sort of surveillance on the trump transition team. >> news 4's tracie potts is here with details on this latest bombshell. >> good morning, guys. here is what happened. the head of the intelligence committee went to the white house, didn't go to his own committee, to tell president trump that there seemed to be some evidence that members of his transition team, there was information collected on them. some communications were intercepted after mostly the election. this move by devin nunes missed a lot of people on his committee, including the top democrat who said he thought that it was inappropriate for him to go brief the white house on something like this without briefing his own committee. nunes says this information was incidentally collected as part of survenc

at all to do with russia or the russia investigation and he pointed out that it was collected legally. but he said there were questions about whether it was appropriate and he didn't elaborate on what that means. president trump says he was somewhat vindicated by all of this, but democrats and others like john mccain who said it was bizarre, the sort of insiding going on within their committee with one not talking to the other. and then the top democrat on the committee came out and told "meet the press daily" that he now thinks there's more than circumstantial evidence that there was collusion going on between trump transition members and representatives from russia. it's all still playing out. we'll stay on top of it for you. >> tracie potts live on capitol hill, thank you. 4:46 right mow. montgomery county is now at the center of a nationwide debate on immigration and students seem to be caught in the middle. parents are now questioning the school system's ability to keep their kids safe after

a bomb threat. the threat happened yesterday. the caller said they would the bomb the school and shoot, quote, illegals. this comes after the rape of a 14-year-old girl inside rockville high school last week. one of the suspects is an undocumented im grant. we spoke with a senior at the school who admitted girls don't always feel safe in the hallways. >> they -- i mean, girls don't like the attention they get necessarily always, so -- i mean, i don't think they're scared because they see how much our school is trying to do now to prevent this from happening in the future. coming up, we'll tell you the restrictions rockville high school is now placing on students to make sure they stay safe. most of us shop online and pick restaurants based on star ratings or reviews, so why not schools? according to "the washington post," the d.c. state board of education approved a five-star rating plan last night. it would allow parents to see how well their child's public school stacks up to

the ratings would be based on things like test scores and attendance. but a lot of school districts, you can't really choose your school. it depends on where you live. we are learning more about how police track down a plan accused on of police carrizing several gun stores. surveillance video shows what happened during the break-ins. three suspects appeared in court yesterday. the atf says a fourth suspect helped lead agents to the other three. dozens of guns were stolen, but so far only one has been recovered. prosecutors are not yet saying if a break-in at united guns in rockville, maryland, is corrected to the three in northern virginia. today, a police officer who died her first day on the job will be honored. officer ashley gwendon's family will be there to accept the award on her behalf. she was shot and killed last year

violence call. two other officers were hurt in what shooting. they will be honored today, as well. officer ricardo biddy is in the business of saving lives, but recently he needed someone to save him. during a recent chat, biddy didn't seem like himself and martin, who was an emt, could sense something was wrong. he called 911 and rushed to biddy's home. biddy was unconscious in his prince george's county police cruiser suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. at an awards ceremony yesterday, he said their bond is even stronger now. >> to say that, you know, your best friend, you know, came to your aid and saved your life is -- it's remarkable. and, you know, i'll be forever grateful to him. >> what an incredible story.. and just to have the presence of mind and the training to sense that something was wrong and go into action. it really probably saved his life. >> very fortunate. 4:50 is our t

without warning, march 3rd, the irs removed the data retrieval tool link off the free application for federal student aid's website, also known as fafsa. the data retrieval tool allows students to automatically download their tax returned information, including their parents. the irs called this a precautionary step following concerns that information from that tool could be potentially misused by identity thieves. the irs told us it saw things that were suspicious, but would not say exactly what that means nor would they confirm whether this was an actual breach. the irs believes the issue is relatively isolated. meantime, financial aid expert say getting this tool back up and running is vital to millions of students who are depending on federal financial aid. >> this will affect anybody who completes a fafsa, even though returning students, because you have to fill out a fafsa every single year. so, of course, it will affect them.
