right near crackling town road. this was in the hughesville area of charles county. you can see how bad that damage is by looking at that car. just incredible. two other adults who were in that suv were injured. the person in the other car is expected to be okay. many of you are preparing to attend an easter sunday service and folks are gathered at the little river united church of christ and they've been out there son-in-law of them since before dawn. >> yeah. the church was one of the targets of hate received this past week. derek ward is live there this morning. good morning to you, derek. >> reporter: good morning. well you know that offensive graffiti was cleaned off and it's still on the minds. folks here. you can feel a sense they have indeed moved on spiritually and mentally. look, earlier this morning, there was indeed that sunrise service. and they do this every year. they start in a memorial grows in a nice little area out behind the churchs

well of course, there was a special significance to this this year after monday's instance where the graffiti was found. now the person responsible has been arrested, but also made it's way into the message this morning as we hear from the minister. from the pastor of this church. >> fairfax county has come a long way in 50 or 60 years. this is where the civil war began in the 1860s. this was a place of, you know, segregation and deep segregation, the '50s and even into the '60s. and i think part what have we're seeing, we saw at the community vigil last night and what we're continuing to see is that this is an incredibly diverse county. we don't always come together, but when we do, there is a lot of love for neighbors here. >> reporter: and it's irony here, back in the '50s, it was integrated. and that made them the target of some hateful actions and words

it comes full circle, but they are beyond it now. derek ward, news 4, back to you. >> thanks. right now vice president mike pence is in south korea. he and the second lady attended easter church service on the young military base and participated in a reclaimed ceremony. you can see video right there. the visit comes as indications point toward another nuclear test or missile launch from north korea. during the next ten days, pence will be out there to discuss the military's response. he'll have meetings with leaders from south korea, japan, indonesia, and australia. and this morning, north korea had an unsuccessful missile launch. vice president pence says it was probably a medium range ballistic miss that will blew up within four to five seconds. the missile was launched less than a day after north korea's staged this huge parade displaying it's latest military hardware. defense secretary jim mattis says president donald trump who is in palm beach right now, is aware of the launch, but has n

trump has been leading on china to put pressure on north korea. wait until you see this. chaos erupting during a pro trump rally. this was in berkeley, california. because of that, police arrested 20 people after trump supporters and counterprotesters clashed. only an orange barrier separated the two groups. you can see that there. police say things escalated when heated words were exchanged, some of the activists threw anything they could get their hands on. including fireworks. about a dozen people got hurt. things label the calmer at other rallies including this one on the national mall. thousands of protesters packing city after city for the tax day marches. they wanted to turn up the heat on president trump and force him to release his tax returns. trump says he will not release his taxes because he's under audit. today on "meet the press" chuck todd will sit down with jack reid and john mccain a

moment of silence about a half hour ago. it was to mark ten years since the mass shooting at virginia tech which killed 32 people. >> northern virginia bureau chief julie kerry is live on the school's campus with a look at the remembrance ceremonies happening today. good morning to you, julie. >> reporter: hey, good morning. probably notice that across the area now, a bigger crowd gathered around the memorial. that's because those folks came here to take part in the first commemorative event of the day. it was around 9:30 this morning when there was a ceremonial wreath laying at the memorial. the governor helped place the two wreaths at the scene. and then at 9:43 as you mentioned, that statewide moment of silence to remember the 32 lives cut short here ten years ago today. this afternoon, we're looking ahead at 2:30 to what's being called a university commemoration, senator tim kaine will be speaking. and the victims will be remembered with readings of short

the most emotional event of all coming at 7:30 tonight. the candle light vigil. it echoes the powerful scene here on the drill field ten years ago as a heartbroken campus community came together in the hours after the shooting. we talked to one virginia tech employee today about his reflections on this weekend. >> as you walk around, it's just, when you see the memorials and think back to one of those events over the years that you remember what you were doing and where you were at type of thing. just couldn't imagine what the family's went through then and even now, i'm sure they've gotten some closure. still, it's been ten years and lost the loved ones. it's tough on them.

president. there is been a concern that at this moment, you know, because of the south korea political pummel that it's important for the united states to just show that it's going to be there no matter what's happening in south korea. i think that also explains vice president pence's decision to be there or the decision to send him there. look, the bigger picture in this is sort of the administration's taking away my understanding is the good news is the missile failed. the missile launch failed. and it looks like, particularly "new york times" is leaning into this this morning, that it's perhaps the sabotage campaign that united states has been on. they did it with iran. the technology is there to do with nrk they've been able to infull trait, perhaps via describer to disrupt that. but what was of concern was in that parade, the weapons that he showed off, there were new weapon systems that indicate that he is pursuing a system that would allow him to deliver a nuclear weapon. >> do you think those are real or props. >> well, there was a couple of in there that -- there were some, one or two that could he

that a couple that -- >> doesn't mean they have figured out the technology yet, but they are certainly further along than we were even a couple years ago. that part of a concern to some people. >> all right. so switching gears to the protests that we've seen across the country. >> yeah. >> they want donald trump to release his tax returns. is he going to do it ever? >> he probably won't, but the fact of the matter is and this came up on the show, and frankly, you know, wasn't sure how much the tax return could come up today. the president tweeted about the protest march which also makes those protesters feel more empowered. he's worried about it, he thinks about it. look, i don't think -- i think some government entity might force him to release tax returns at some point, but he will not do it voluntarily. it'll come from a subpoena from congress, could come from a state legislature that passes a law that says if you want to be on the fwloot run for president, you have to release your tax returns from the previous year. i think at some point we will see them, but it will will be because some l
